Who’s Hot Who’s Not: Star Guild Awards
Another award show, another night of great and not so great fashion. Read on to find who fared well and who didn’t!

Adhuna Akhtar

Adhuna took her mint embroidered Sabyasachi for another night out. However, unlike its first appearance of her in it, at the Vogue Beauty Awards, this time around she swapped the mint peep toe sandals for nude pumps, a change that didn’t do anything to save the look but in fact made it worse. Those who read my Whwn for the Vba know that this piece is just not one Sabya’s finest moment.

Verdict: Not Hot

Arpita Mehta

Also doing Sabyasachi on the night was Arpita Mehta. By now we’ve all figured out Ms Mehta is a huge fan of the designer as she is rarely seen in anything else. Sadly she has a knack for picking his most overwhelming pieces, well at...

Who’s Hot, Who’s Not: GQ Awards 2013
Lifestyle magazine associated events always excite me. Why? Well for some odd reason they inspire our stars to put their best foot forward as far as fashion on the night is concerned. Stars take bold choices, venture out of their comfort zone and sometimes, even succeed in delivering a winning look. GQ Awards 2013 was held over the weekend and saw some of the most glamorous faces of fashion, television and movies gracing the red carpet. Read on to find out my thoughts on their red carpet attire.

Mr and Mrs Abhishek Kapoor were feeling blue on the night, and in a good way! Whilst the Mrs rocked the flowy maxi and simple blown out hair, hubby looked dapper than ever in torn jeans, printed t-shirt, blazer and sneakers combo. Don’t you love it when men put a bit of effort into their ensemble!

Box Office – ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ is a hit, ‘Zanjeer’ a disaster
After a less than encouraging run of Aurangzeb and a mild success in the form of Mere Dad Ki Maruti, Yash Raj Films has managed to score quite well with Shuddh Desi Romance. The film has turned out to be an instant hit for the makers and for director Maneesh Sharma too, it is a major win after an average response to Ladies v/s Ricky Behl.

The film has been endorsed by youth – its target audience – and it is the budget that has helped the cause as well. This is the reason why with close to 37 crore in its kitty and a lifetime total of 50 crore in the offering, Shuddh Desi Romance has turned out to be yet another good success of the year. In fact 2013 has seen quite a few successes in 40-50 crore range and incidentally, each of these has boasted of being driven by a concept than starcast.

Yamala Pagala Deewana 2 Music Review
Keeping in line with the sequel trend the Deol family is all set to bring out a follow up to their successful family comic caper Yamala Pagala Deewana, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (Yes, definitely not the most original of sequel titles). Sangeeth Sivan directs the sequel and music has been composed by Sharib-Toshi (Jashnn), with an additional track by Sachin Gupta (Mere Dad Ki Maruti), and lyrics has been written by Kumaar (‘Dilliwali Girlfriend’ – Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani). High on Punjabi flavour, as predictable, one expects the tracks to fair far better when put in context of the movie that promises to be one hell of a crazy roller-coaster ride.

Two singers who need no introduction, Shankar Mahadevan and Sukwindar Singh in the company of newbie Sanchita Bhattacharya open the album with the Title Track. The song, which would otherwise be quite enjoyable, suffers from being over programmed. Never a...

Multiplex stubbornness affects Nautanki Saala collections
Rohan Sippy
The current trend when it comes to film distribution highly favours multiplexes across the country in terms of releasing smaller films. The recent cases that have brought this issue to the forefront are David Dhawan's Chasme Baddoor, and Y-Films' Mere Dad Ki Maruti. However, the latest to bear the brunt of the Cineplex stubbornness is the recently release Rohan Sippy film Nautanki Saala. A couple of days ago, just prior to the film's release, the industry was abuzz with talk of the dispute between the makers of Nautanki Saala and leading multiplex chain PVR. The reason behind the dispute was the profit sharing ratio that was being demanded by the Cineplex chain, which severely put a strain on the filmmakers and audiences. However, it is learnt that the dispute has since been resolved, though Sippy's film did suffer a setback in terms of first day collections. Speaking to Taran Adarsh,...

Protective sister Huma goes all out for Saqib
Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013)
Mumbai, March 23: Young actor Saqib Saleem's confident performance in "Mere Dad Ki Maruti" has multiplied his popularity since last year's "Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge". The proudest is his elder sister Huma Qureshi, who made her own impressive debut last year with "Gangs Of Wasseypur".

Huma, who has been busy shooting with Madhuri Dixit for Abhishek Choubey's "Dedh Ishqiya", can barely contain her excitement at her brother's persuasive impact in "Mere Dad Ki Maruti".

"One thing no one can deny about Saqib is that he is a spontaneous and uninhibited performer. Give him any scene and he will do it naturally and effortlessly. Of.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti Review
Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013)
Film: "Mere Dad Ki Maruti"; Cast: Ram Kapoor, Saqib Saleem and Rhea Chakraborty; Director: Ashima Chibber; Rating: *** - goofy oddball father-son saga.

For crying out loud! These characters are Loud, man! Really really loud. Everyone talks at the top of their lungs and, quite often, at the same time. So we end up listening to more conversation, topped with aggressive background music, than our ears could normally accommodate.

Welcome to the world of a big fat North Indian wedding. Anything can happen here. So be warned. Anyone can say anything and get away with it.

Somehow Indian weddings give a licence.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti Movie Review
What’s a Yrf movie without a big fat Punjabi wedding. The over excited families, the meddling relatives, the loud Punjabi and the Dhols. Thankfully, there are no sarson ke kheth but Mere Dad Ki Maruti gives a ride as enjoyable as the car advertisements on TV promise to you.

The Khullar family is very excited not only because it’s their daughter’s wedding but also because Papa Tej (Ram Kapoor) has bought a brand new “fully loaded” Maruti Ertiga as a wedding gift. The good for nothing son Sameer (Saqib Samil from Mujhse Fraandship Karoge) is pissed off with not being able to drive the car but manages to sneak it out to impress the girl of his dreams Jasleen (Rhea Chakraborty). And when the car accidently goes missing, Sameer knows that he must find the car at any cost or face his father’s dreaded wrath!

Shreyansh...

Dull start for new releases Jolly, Mdkm and 3G, Sbagr holds!
It was another disappointing week at the box-office as the three new releases of the week, Y-Films' Mere Dad Ki Maruti, Subhash Kapoor's Jolly L.L.B. and Eros International's 3G saw a dull to poor start of 15-20 percent (at an all India level). Thankfully, the feedback for the first two mentioned films, namely the Arshad, Amrita and Boman starrer, Jolly L.L.B. and the Saqib Saleem and Ram Kapoor starrer, Mere Dad Ki Maruti is mixed but tending towards positive. Even the third...
