Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
I never have high expectations when it comes to remakes (re-imagining being the new terminology). My expectations were not disappointed despite the wonderful names attached to this regurgitation of the original classic.
It simply didn't gel, and the Shelby character was perhaps the least cohesive. She was a rock in a flowing stream, the movie happened to her rather than her being part of it. It was disappointing to say the least.
It was impossible to believe that these wooden renditions were actually life-long friends. I try to give merit where it's due and not compare too closely with the predecessor, but even the performances of the wonderful names were dulled by this mediocre disappointment.
There seems to be but a single purpose to this movie, to 're-imagine' something simply for the sake of it. It didn't need to be made and the real talent was wasted in the process.
