The White Tiger is one of the lesser-known superheroes in the MCU. In Daredevil: Born Again, Hector Ayala, aka White Tiger, was introduced when he was arrested after getting into a fight with two cops and accidentally killing one of them.
We can also see Matt Murdock aka Daredevil advocating for White Tiger after knowing his side of the story. In the original Marvel lore, the power of White Tiger is passed down to generations. With Ayala’s introduction to the series, another White Tiger could be introduced in the show. Who do you think will don the magical amulet?

Daredevil: Born Again director explains what the process of filming episode 3 was like for White Tiger actor Kamar de los Reyes amid a tragic illness. White Tiger is one of the new additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character is one of the most important parts of Daredevil: Born Again's cast and his story is bound to have an impact on how Matt Murdock's Daredevil future plays out in the show. Sadly, Reyes passed away after a battle with cancer in December 2023, and he seemingly filmed his Marvel scenes while dealing with the illness.
Speaking with Brandon Davis, Daredevil: Born Again's episode 3 director Michael Cuesta addressed Kamar de los Reyes' death and what it was like for the White Tiger star to film while battling cancer.
According to the director, Marvel did not know what was going on with Reyes at the time. However, Cuesta notes...

We all love a good superhero story, right? The epic battles, the impossible stunts, the perfectly timed one-liners. But sometimes, the real heroes are the ones who don’t wear capes, or, in this case, don’t even let the world know they’re fighting their own personal battle while filming a massive production like Daredevil: Born Again.

The following contains spoilers from Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Episode 3, "The Hollow of His Hand," now streaming on Disney+.
Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again brought back Daredevil after the original series was canceled, but it opened with the tragic murder of Foggy Nelson. While this led Matt to hang up the suit and billy club, seemingly for good, there are other vigilantes in New York City, including the McU's Spider-Man. Another hero, Hector Ayala (aka the White Tiger) also appeared in the show to represent these other New York heroes.
Out of costume, Hector tried to stop two corrupt police officers from beating a man called Nicky Torres. While fighting them, one fell onto the subway tracks and died.

One of the most exciting aspects of Daredevil's reboot on Disney+ is that Matt Murdock is now a more significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than ever before. On Netflix, Charlie Cox's Man Without Fear was allowed to make subtle references to the MCU, but his recent inclusion in Marvel series and movies allows him to interact more directly with our favorite heroes. Notably, after the Netflix series was canceled, Daredevil made his initial return in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker's lawyer. Now, a small reference in Daredevil: Born Again may hint at a potential team-up in the future.
At the center of Born Again's narrative is Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'onofrio) Mayoral campaign, as the character's political ambitions set him on a collision course with Murdock, despite the latter not having been active as Daredevil for over a year. Interestingly, at the...

Daredevil: Born Again is finally here and the series is, without a doubt, a triumph for Marvel Studios. The phrase "we're so back" is being thrown around on social media a lot today and, while it's perhaps a little premature, the Man Without Fear is definitely back.

Daredevil: Born Again arrived on Disney+, ushering in a new chapter for the Man Without Fear on Disney+. While Daredevil is the star attraction, the series continues the tradition of the Defenders Saga by bringing in another street-level hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whereas Daredevil Season 2 introduced The Punisher and Elektra, Daredevil: Born Again's two-episode premiere introduces The White Tiger.
Created in the 1970s, White Tiger has a long and complex history within Marvel Comics, as five people have taken on the mantle. Daredevil: Born Again introduces audiences to Hector Ayala, played by the late Kamar de los Reyes. While it is still early in the series' run, with the character only seen in action in a piece of news footage and the suit being alluded to, the introduction to White Tiger implies some significant story developments that could play out in the MCU. Questions are being asked about what happened to MCU newcomer Kamar de los Reyes, the actor behind Daredevil: Born Again's White Tiger, after the show's tribute to him.
Along with multiple major heroes and villains from Netflix's Defenders Saga, Born Again highlights newcomer Kamar de los Reyes as Hector Ayala, one of the McU's newest vigilantes. This character is introduced in New York during a time of massive change as the city adapts to Wilson Fisk's new run as mayor.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Ayala finds a set of Jade Tiger amulets that allow him to transform into a superhero with enhanced strength and superhuman abilities. He has been teased as a major new player in Born Again's first season, but sadly, real-world events raise concerns about the character's long-term future.

The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again opens with Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page exiting their office (this was teased at the end of Daredevil Season 3) and heading over to Josie’s bar to have a drink and bid adieu to Cherry, a retiring NYC police officer. While Cherry laments how the police are going obsolete because of the rise of vigilantes like Daredevil and White Tiger, Foggy has a lighthearted chat with an assistant district attorney, Kirsten McDuffie, about why he is working out of a storefront with his friends instead of a real firm. The conversation between Foggy and McDuffie becomes about a thief called Benny who has apparently been accused of stealing a few bottles of Lafite Rothschild from Red Hook, a bonded warehouse, i.e., a storage facility where imported goods can be stashed without paying taxes.

As Indian cinema continues to gain recognition worldwide, it’s still hard to explain the hold it has on those of us who grew up with it.
The intrepid cinephile can always do their research; watch the latest buzzy international feature, check out popular films that are streaming, even judge a book by its cover (a movie by its hit songs). But there’s something at the core of Hindi films especially that is deeply entrenched in culture. Usually I explain it by describing the theater where I watched every new Hindi film from 2005-2009: a suburban Michigan multiplex whose concession counter was flanked by two sacred symbols — a statue of the Hindu god Ganesh, and a framed photo of actor Shah Rukh Khan.
You need to understand that, at least conceptually, to appreciate something like “Superboys of Malegaon,” the true story of film fanatics in the eponymous village...

For reasons unknown, young adult fantasy narratives seem to have an abundance of MacGuffins, as seen in some of the classics like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, His Dark Materials, etc. More often than not, these narrative devices function to move the plot forward or provide deeper significance in the context of the narrative, similar to the role played by the White Tiger Orchid in both the original novel and Netflix’s cinematic adaptation of Uglies. Throughout the movie, this miraculous MacGuffin appears only twice, but the thematic, symbolic meaning it carries is crucial to the understanding of the narrative itself.
Spoilers Ahead

Some Marvel characters have led the cinematic universe into becoming one of the most lucrative franchises in the history of Hollywood, such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. Other heroes are usually suited for solo ventures or the small screen, catering to a narrower audience that craves something a little more specific.

The Punisher is one such character, receiving two unrelated solo films before getting rebooted a third time in the MCU with Netlfix’s Daredevil. While The Punisher has not shied away from violence in any of his live-action depictions, Ray Stevenson was keenly aware of how he wanted to portray his version of the character in a film, in a story that was otherwise concerned with a lot of gratuitous violence.

We've already shared some exciting MCU rumours with you today - including the possible identity of the next Black Panther - but there are so many doing the rounds that it's time for another roundup!
To start, we're going back to The Cosmic Circus. According to the site, Marvel Studios "is not holding back" with Daredevil: Born Again, and the show supposedly takes bigger risks with its story than the Netflix series (it also supposedly has much higher stakes).
Sticking in that corner of the MCU, it's said neither Luke Cage nor Iron Fist will be recast if they return before Avengers: Secret Wars. However, we should "expect Cage to be a more prominent character as opposed to Rand, who is expected to take a backseat role."
It sounds like some big Defenders-related cameos are being lined up for Daredevil: Born Again.
There are other miscellaneous details, including Armor Wars still being in development,...

Marvel has had a plethora of franchises over the years but none of them could come close to the popularity matched by Ghost Rider, featuring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze. The first film was released in 2007 which was a massive hit, and four years later, it got a strange sequel titled Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. Though it was not a massive hit like the initial film, it was an intriguing watch as the film featured more action and watching Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze and his anti-hero avatar was an absolute blast.

Martial arts movie stars often get typecast as either heroes or villains, but some are skilled at playing both roles, like Carter Wong and Max Zhang. Another example is Gary Daniels, known for his flexibility and kicking skills, who plays both heroes and villains in martial arts films. Actors like Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, and Dolph Lundgren have successfully portrayed both heroes and villains, showcasing their versatility in action films.
Numerous great martial arts stars play heroes and villains alike. Martial arts films are typically headlined by actors or actresses with a life-long background in formal martial arts training. Oftentimes, leads of martial arts films tend to become somewhat typecast for portraying heroes, while others go the opposite route and primarily play villains.

Sara Moni's White Tiger is based on the character's fourth incarnation, Angela del Toro. Originally a federal agent, del Toro became a costumed crime fighter, only to be killed and resurrected by the Hand as a villain. Freed from the shadowy organization's control in New Avengers (vol. 4) #15, White Tiger has been underused since. Moni's costume pays homage to the character, holding fans over as they wait for her eventual return.

The romance film Love Again features an international cast including one iconic music artist in her largest movie role yet. Love Again is the American remake of the German rom-com SMS für Dich and revolves around a relationship that brews between a woman grieving the death of her fiancé and a journalist who accidentally starts receiving texts from her. With famed singer Celine Dion in the mix as an unexpected matchmaker, the movie ultimately serves as a wholesome tale for those who need a second shot at finding true love.

Netflix scored a big haul of Oscar nominations this year – 35 in total – putting the streamer in the top three for a studio in the history of the awards.
The company’s big cheeses, including co-CEOs Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos, were asked today, on their first-quarter financials video, out of these films, which did they most enjoy watching.
Founder Hastings plumped for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, which scored six nominations, and was joined by investor relations chief Spencer Wang in the pick.
CFO Spencer Neumann and COO and Chief Product Officer Greg Peters both went for White Tiger, the Ramin Bahrani-directed film that starred Priyanka Chopra and Adarsh Gourav, which was nominated for best adapted screenplay.
Sarandos, best known in his role as Chief Content Officer, initially tried to “diplomatically” pass the question to Hastings, before finally answering with If Anything Happens I Love You,...

Priyanka Chopra is a real movie star—you got that? The White Tiger actress had a fierce comeback when one reporter claimed she and hubby Nick Jonas aren't big enough stars to announce the 2021 Oscar nominations. Peter Ford, who somewhat jokingly identifies as "the best & most widely heard entertainment reporter" in Australia and New Zealand, wrote on Twitter on Monday, March 15, "No disrespect to these two but I'm not sure their contribution to the movies qualifies them to be announcing Oscar nominees." Earlier in the day, Priyanka and Nick had revealed the nominees for the 2021 Oscars, and from Priyanka's perspective, they killed...

The reminders from the Motion Picture Academy and the distributors arrive daily: See the movies! Judge the work! Choose your favorite!
Reminders are relevant because there’s an absence of passion about this year’s awards season (Oscar nominations are due by 5 p.m. today). The reasons are obvious: We all miss the festivals, the premieres, the buzz. We miss the movies.
I have my own “best picture” favorite, but I’m hesitant about revealing it; voters seem wary this season.
In that context I find myself missing Green Book, a movie that at least got everyone talking (or arguing). Critics checked in to anger-management clinics when it collected its Oscars and Globes in 2019. The movie became the accidental prototype for the Academy’s’ “most popular” category – the idea that was shouted down a couple of years ago. Still, it ignited passion.

The White Tiger is a surprise nominee at the WGA
The Writers Guild of America will have their awards ceremony on March 21st, 2021 but today they announced their nominations. It's always a bit tricky to look at this in the context of the Oscars since the eligibility rules are different. Though the WGA also extended their eligibilty period to match with Oscar (as you'll see given a couple of their nominees), several key films each year are not eligible. You can't be nominated for a WGA unleses you're already a member of their guild; in other words at the WGA you'd never get a situation like, say, you had with Parasite winning the SAG Award. Furthermore animated films are not eligible for this prize but are obviously eligible at the Oscars; Shrek was nominated and Pixar has had 7 nominees: Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall•E,...

Exclusive: For nearly 15 years, director Ramin Bahrani and novelist Aravind Adiga shared a symbiotic relationship of inspiration that culminated into Netflix’s rags-to-riches drama The White Tiger.
Bahrani’s 2005 feature Man Push Cart inspired Adiga, a former Columbia University classmate, to write The White Tiger, a searing novel about one man’s determination to rise through the ranks of India’s caste system. Upon reading Adiga’s early drafts before White Tiger published in 2008, Bahrani knew he had to adapt it for the big screen.
“I had been reading the novel in draft form for four years before it was published. I was immediately riveted,” Bahrani said during the film’s panel for Deadline’s Contenders Film.

When the August Wilson estate gave Denzel Washington the film rights to his 10-play Century Cycle, he brought them to Netflix Original Films chief Scott Stuber, who signed on to back them all.
The first, Wilson rookie and Public Theatre director George C. Wolfe’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” will clean up at the Oscars. Wolfe wisely moved away from winter and leaned into pushing the film’s sweltering heat.
Actors will love Oscar winner Viola Davis (“Fences”) as the gold-toothed, hip-swaying, bosomy, sweat-drenched blues singer of the title, and never-nominated Chadwick Boseman (“Black Panther”) as her restless, go-getter trumpeter: he could follow Heath Ledger (“The Dark Knight”) and Peter Finch (“Network”) to win a posthumous Oscar.
