Netflix India unveiled the anticipated trailer for “Khakee: The Bengal Chapter” at a star-studded event in Kolkata on Wednesday, ahead of its March 20 premiere.

Produced by Friday Storytellers and created by industry veteran Neeraj Pandey, the crime drama is co-directed by Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Ray. Following the success of “Khakee: The Bihar Chapter,” which unraveled the murky nexus of power, politics, and police in India’s hinterlands, Netflix is set to explore new stories under the same banner.

Back in the day, crime dramas usually used to have corrupt cops. And even if the protagonist was a member of any law enforcement authority, they used to punch up instead of down. In case you’ve forgotten due to the Singham franchise’s recent trashy entries, the first one was actually about catching a corrupt politician, not doing the bidding of one. While movies like Ugly, Raman Raghav 2.0, Paan Singh Tomar, and Sonchiriya tried to show the real face of the law, films like Talaash, Mardaani (and its sequel), Raees, Dabangg (the entire trilogy), Murder Mubarak, Rautu ka Raaz, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, Delhi Crime, and even the highly revered Article 15 kept portraying the police as the bastion of justice and righteousness. That said, slowly but steadily, directors and writers are starting to realize again that maybe celebrating the khaki uniform isn’t a good idea because it has some real-life consequences.

Fremantle India’s managing director Aradhana Bhola has shed light on the company’s recent foray into fiction series and its ambitious plans for the local market.

The first season of Khakee was among Netflix India’s top ten shows for more than five months after launching in November last year. The series, set in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district, follows an Indian Police Service officer who tries to bring down a criminal gang.

Mumbai, March 27 (Ians) Actor-politician Ravi Kishan has shared that he faced casting couch by a woman who is now a “big shot”.

He revealed he was offered a ‘coffee at night’ by the woman, who he chose not to name.

Ravi was asked about casting couch during his recent appearance on the chat show ‘Aap ki Adalat’, according to a media report.

The actor essays the role of a young, earnest, dutiful and righteous cop in the series, his role is based on the real life of Ips Amit Lodha.

Film director, producer, and screenwriter Neeraj Pandey opens up about his upcoming series ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’ and why he opted for the particular story from Bihar which revolves around the 2004 clash between Ips officer Amit Lodha and a local mafia, Chandan.

He said: “When I met Amit for the first time, I found it incredible that there was an IITian who wanted to appear for the Upsc, cracked it, and then chose Ips. He was originally from Rajasthan but was given Bihar cadre. He landed in Patna and was a fish out of water. Actor Avinash Tiwary, who plays a baddie in the upcoming streaming series, ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’, feels there’s far more thrill and creative satisfaction in essaying characters with grey shades. He shared that he naturally gravitates towards characters which are not ‘good’, or are unconventional.

Elaboration on the same, Avinash says: “There is a lot more colour in playing grey shades on screen. I have always found myself gravitating towards characters that aren’t all pure or holy. I find a different energy in chasing the layers of characters.”
