Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut) | Review

Teenage Wasteland: Riedinger’s Debut a Familiar Coming-of-Age Parade

All that glitters isn’t gold, but social media success can break the mould. At least that’s the hopeful nugget bestowed upon the wayward heroine of Agathe Riedinger’s debut, Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut). In the well grooved tradition of coming-of-age cinema (especially French cinema), Riedinger certainly isn’t taking any big risks in her tale of a troubled teen obsessed with social media and reality television as a means of escape from the sordid conditions of a down-and-out home life. And yet, there’s certainly a historical value in comparing the softly evolving transitions of what life is like for teenage girls reared in a contradictory world where their worth is dictated by their desirability, while it’s expected they do not act upon the satisfaction of their own desires.…...

A Western Flop Features Cameos From Both Jamie Foxx And Christopher Lloyd
Image
There was a point in time where Seth MacFarlane was on top of the animation world. "Family Guy," which MacFarlane created, wrote, and starred in, joined the ranks of "South Park" and "King of the Hill" as one of the most popular adult animated shows on television. Fox canceled the show twice in its first few years, only for it to come back bigger than ever. "Family Guy" still airs new episodes today and, much like "The Simpsons," it will go on long after we're all dead. Out of the show's wake came "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show," but it was becoming clear that MacFarlane had the drive to expand into feature films. The man was born to direct a musical, but alas, maybe one day.

MacFarlane's feature directorial debut, "Ted," ended up being a massive critical and financial success. For every joke that's aged like milk, the 2012 comedy...

Heroines Gone Haywire: How to Fix Gh’s Lulu, Willow and Kristina
Image
A trio of heroines have gone haywire on General Hospital; acting unethically, doing things that are drastically out of character, and behaving really badly. With each passing week, Lulu, Willow and Kristina have become increasingly unlikable.

Before they each reach the point of no return, here are a few ways to fix them and get them back to the appealing young women viewers once knew and loved.

Losing Lulu

Remember when Lulu (Alexa Havins) used to be the one to root for in her feud with Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton)? Well, those days are long gone.

Since Havens was cast in the popular role, the character has been written as a sanctimonious busybody, meddling in Brook Lynn’s past, exposing the long-kept secret of Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza) paternity, and upending everyone’s life.

Enough already. Apologizing to Gio was a good first step, but Lulu has a lot more work to do.

Wisecracking French Series ‘Bitches’ Brings Continuous Laughter in Delightful Annecy Wip Session
Image
French director/screenwriter Manon Tacconi, a former student of reputable animation school La Poudrière, is living the animated dream in Annecy this year.

Her debut short “La bouche en cœur”—which was nominated at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand Intl. Short Film Festival—is on track to become a cracking 15×7’ animated comedy series titled “Bitches” (“Garces” in French), after successfully climbing every step of the classic-yet-selective path of European animation production.

First presented at MIFA pitches in 2023, “Bitches” delighted the MIFA jury and received the Prix Ciclic, a €25,000 grant and two-month residency.

At Cartoon Springboard, a key launchpad for European co-productions, “Bitches” received support from the French collective Sacd (Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers), and went on to Cartoon Forum a year later, where professionals from all over Europe applauded this female-driven, female-led adult animation endeavor.

“Those steps helped us maintain a steady course,” said Tacconi, reflecting on the journey so far.

Switch 2 Quietly Improves The Most Underrated Zelda Game
Image
The Nintendo Switch 2 has a lengthy list of official improvements for specific games from Nintendo, but the console has quietly improved the motion controls of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD significantly. Fans are beginning to notice that some Switch 1 games that don't have official upgrades or notes about improvements are still performing better than Nintendo appears to be suggesting. Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, for example, loads much faster and has a stable frame rate.

In a video by Gvg on YouTube, the content creator demonstrates how significantly the Switch 2 motion controls have been improved for a few titles, but the big one is Skyward Sword. During the demonstration, Gvg actively tries to offset the Joy-Con 2's gyro with a lot of sword swinging, bow shooting, flying, and shield parrying, but the gyro remained centered throughout and the motion controls appear to be remarkably improved over the Wii and Switch 1 in general,...

Reacher Season 4 Is Based On The Lee Child Book With The Most Bonkers Reveal In The Whole Series
Image
"Reacher" fans, believe me when I say you're going to want to keep a close eye on this one. The Prime Video series has quickly become must-watch, appointment viewing for dads and action junkies everywhere. Buoyed by Alan Ritchson's super-accurate casting as the hulking vigilante Jack Reacher and the entire creative team's penchant for translating author Lee Child's novels into faithful adaptations on the screen, the streaming show has had no problems whatsoever keeping the good times rolling. That's about to give way to an impending fourth season that appears to be taking its cues from one of the most unforgettable books in the entire series.

After season 3 adapted Child's "Persuader," pitting Reacher against as big a foe as he's ever had the misfortune of crossing paths with, season 4 looks set to up the ante even more. The news comes courtesy of Ritchson himself, who posted on...

Why Ryan Gosling As White Panther Could Be The MCU’s Most Controversial Yet Game-Changing Move Since Iron Man

Ryan Gosling’s White Panther Could Be The MCU’s Next Game-Changer After Iron Man(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Ryan Gosling wearing the mantle of Black Panther? It sounds like internet chaos wrapped in a meme but there’s more to this than Photoshop fantasy. The wild idea of Gosling stepping into Wakandan armor might’ve started as a joke, but with Marvel Knights: The World to Come unveiling a white character named Ketema as the new Black Panther, the conversation suddenly feels louder, weirder, and way more possible than anyone expected.

Yes, this is comic-book territory. But so was Tony Stark once until Robert Downey Jr. made him cinema royalty.

The spark came from Marvel Knights: The World to Come #1, where Ketema, a pale-skinned man with blonde hair, dons the Black Panther suit and declares: “I am king now.

‘Heads or Tails?’ Review: Delightfully Madcap Euro-Western Serves Up Spaghetti With a Lot of Sauce
Image
The Wild West looks tame beside the lawless, senseless Continental plains and sierras of “Heads or Tails?,” an enjoyably off-kilter Euro-western that honors the stylistic and structural traditions of the genre while occupying its own reality entirely. The second feature from Italian directing duo Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis features a rogue outlaw cowboy, a gutsy, pistol-toting widow and Buffalo Bill Cody himself — all variously on the loose in a suitably parched stretch of northern Italy. But if those sound like standard ingredients for an old-school oater, or even a Leone-era spaghetti joint, this sui generis item takes a turn for the eccentric even before it pivots into outright surrealism.

One of the more irreverent titles at this year’s Cannes festival — where it premiered in the Un Certain Regard strand — “Heads or Tails?” is looser and loopier than de Righi and Zoppis’ cultish 2021 festival hit “The Tale of King Crab,...

Stranger Things: Who Is Borys Of Ebe? Exploring Wild Theory About Potential Season 5 Villain Much Bigger Than Vecna
Image
Can Borys of Ebe Be The Real Villain Of Stranger Things Season 5? ( Photo Credit – Tina Rowden / Netflix )

Could Hawkins’ next villain have wings and breathe fire? Maybe! Fans of Stranger Things have been cooking up one wild theory for a long time, believing that Vecna isn’t the ultimate evil. Instead, the Upside Down may be hiding something even more terrifying, which could be a sorcerer-king dragon straight out of Dungeons & Dragons lore.

What Is Known About Borys Of Ebe Aka The Dragon?

Known in the D&d world as The Dragon or the Sorcerer King of Ur Draxa, Borys is a major force. He is powerful enough to rival even Tiamat, the goddess of all evil dragons (per Dark Sun Wiki). Now, according to an interesting theory, the real puppet master in Stranger Things isn’t Vecna, but the D&d monster named Borys of Ebe, aka The Dragon.

Rai Cinema Celebrates ‘Heads or Tails?’ at Cannes and Readies for More Hits: ‘Cinema Without Audience Doesn’t Exist’
Image
It was all about Wild West myths and classy Negronis as Rai Cinema celebrated “Heads or Tails?” in Cannes on Thursday.

Presented in Un Certain Regard and directed by Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis, the surreal western follows Rosa (Nadia Tereszkiewicz), who, trapped in an unhappy marriage, flees with daredevil Santino (Alessandro Borghi). Many go after them, including Buffalo Bill (John C. Reilly).

“It’s a very original film and I think it will have a great impact. Not only in Italy, but in the world. It touches upon themes that are universal. There’s love, power and a little bit of politics,” CEO of Rai Cinema Paolo del Brocco told Variety at the event.

“It’s difficult to invent new things in cinema, but we hope more original films will come [in the future]. When we see a new idea, we invest a lot in it. We want it to be done well.

‘Wild Foxes’ Review: Budding French Star Samuel Kircher Jabs His Way Through a Tough and Tender Debut Boxing Drama
Image
Boxing movies are a dime a dozen and have been since the birth of cinema, or at least since the talkies. It’s a genre that offers instant gratification — because what’s more visceral and entertaining than watching two people beat the hell out of each other on screen?

Bringing something original to the genre is significantly harder, which is why Belgian writer-director Valéry Carnoy deserves kudos for making his feature début, Wild Foxes (La Danse des renards), stand apart from your typical testosterone-fueled slugfest.

He stages the action within a highly special location: an elite French sports-études boarding school where teenage athletes are selected to train throughout their high school years. The public institution seems to weigh as heavily on the young fighters as all the punches they take in the ring, driving them toward acts of desperation or self-sabotage as they try to becomes pros.

Wild Foxes adds...

The Wild Hunt will reportedly return in The Witcher season 5
Image
Right now, the team at Netflix is in the middle of shooting the fifth and final season of The Witcher, its monster-hunting fantasy show based on the book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. We haven't seen season 4 yet — it's due out sometime later this year — but the streamer made the wise decision to film the final two seasons back to back, which means production is going to keep rolling on until the finished story is in the can.

Beyond the very obvious boon that the show will hopefully be finished and released in a timely manner, it also means that we're already getting news from the set of The Witcher's final season before season 4 even has as release date. For example, a few weeks back, the sleuths over at Redanian Intelligence shared a ton of pictures that they had captured from the season 5 shoot, showing new Geralt actor...

You Can No Longer Watch the Creepiest Black Mirror Story After Netflix’s Concerning Update
Image
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, one of Netflix’s most popular interactive specials, is no longer available for fans to enjoy. It was one of the last two Interactive Specials (with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend) globally taken down from the platform on 12th May.

Although Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was not the first Netflix Interactive Special, it was a significant addition to the genre for the Ott giant. Providing different outcomes to different viewers as per their choices in the episode, it was an interestingly creepy experience. But it is all gone now as Netflix thinks that the technology is limiting them from focusing on new areas.

What caused Black Mirror: Bandersnatch to be taken down? A still from Black Mirror: Bandersnatch | Credits: Netflix

Netflix first entered the field of Interactive Stories in 2017 with Puss in Book, and went on to make a total of 24 Interactive Specials for its platform.

Netflix Is Removing Black Mirror's Boldest And Most Experimental Episode
Image
Back in 2018, writer Charlie Brooker and director David Slade created a "Black Mirror" spinoff movie called "Bandersnatch," which was to be a bold media experiment. The plot of "Bandersnatch" followed a young computer programmer named Stefan (Fionn Whitehead) on his quest to adapt one of his favorite Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novels (also called "Bandersnatch") into an open-ended video game. It's 1984, and such games are still considered a novelty. He teams up with Colin (Will Poulter), a game designer, and the two begin butting heads over creative control and how corporate the game should be. There are subplots about Stefan's dead mother, and clues to the world ahead based on what he says in therapy.

The gimmick of "Bandersnatch" is that the film itself is a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story. The film was streamed on Netflix, and viewers were encouraged to keep their remote controls ready, having to make story decisions for Stefan as they periodically appeared on the screen.

FilmNation Boards Tomas Alfredson’s Psychodrama ‘Séance on a Wet Afternoon’ Starring Rachel Weisz, Penned by ‘Adolescence’ Writer Jack Thorne (Exclusive)
Image
Tomas Alfredson’s anticipated psychodrama “Séance on a Wet Afternoon,” starring Oscar winner Rachel Weisz (“The Favourite”), has been boarded by FilmNation ahead of the Cannes Film Market. Domestic rights are being repped by UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance.

Penned by “Adolescence” writer Jack Thorne, “Séance on a Wet Afternoon” is based on Mark McShane’s bestselling 1961 suspense novel of the same name. Weisz will star as Myra, a self-proclaimed medium who convinces her husband Billy to kidnap the son of a wealthy family so she can lead the police to the “missing” child and legitimize her psychic abilities. When Myra’s true intentions come to light, however, Billy realizes her plan threatens to consume them both.

The novel was previously adapted into a critically acclaimed 1964 film starring Richard Attenborough and Kim Stanley, who earned a best actress Oscar nomination for her performance.

When Jack Black Almost Played Green Lantern & Fans Hated It That Wild DC Movie Was Canceled Even Before Filming
Image
Jack Black almost played Green Lantern? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

It sounds bizarre now, but once upon a time, Jack Black almost wore the Green Lantern ring. Yep, that Jack Black. Before the world knew Hal Jordan as the chiseled Ryan Reynolds in a glowing green suit, the role nearly went in a completely different direction—a funnier, stranger one. And no, this isn’t an internet myth. It was real. Warner Bros. considered casting the unpredictable comedy star in the lead, with a script that leaned fully into the ridiculous.

Let’s rewind. The Green Lantern movie had been stuck in development limbo since the late ’90s. In 1997, Warner Bros. reached out to Kevin Smith to write the screenplay. Smith, already burned out after the mess surrounding Superman Lives, passed. That left the project floating in space, with no clear path forward.

In 2004, enter Robert Smigel, the comedy writer best...

Ransom Canyon season 2 not yet announced (but it will likely happen)
Image
We've all seen it, and we love it. Ransom Canyon is the hit that Netflix hoped it would be. In the last decade, fans of Westerns (both throwbacks and modern) have gotten to see new breath breathed into the genre. In the 1950s, Westerns were huge. In the last few decades, the genre has been hit and miss.

Maybe any new Western owes some respect to Yellowstone. The Kevin Costner-led drama has led to a resurgence in high-quality series of the genre. That includes spin-offs, such as 1923, which stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Heck, even if you don't traditionally like Westerns, you might love some of the new ones.

The truth is that it is not the setting of the story that matters, but the relationships. There is little emotional difference between a series like Downton Abbey and Yellowstone. Some characters represent good and evil in both series,...

American Classic centers on Broadway star and notorious narcissist Richard Bean (Kline), who suffers a spectacular public meltdown and returns to his hometown and the family-run theater where he first became aware of his own brilliance. When he arrives, he is shocked to discover that his father, the former artistic director, has lost a step and that the once-respected theater, now run by his brother Jon (Tenney) and his wife Kristen (Linney) has become, by necessity, a low-rent dinner theater serving roast beef and murder mysteries. When Will Smith’s Bizarre Scene From This Flop Movie Made The Director Regret A Key Decision: “I Never Wanted To See…”
Image
What Did The Director Of Wild Wild West Say About This Bizzare Scene Featuring Will Smith?(Photo Credit –Instagram)

Before Wild Wild West flopped its way into pop culture infamy, Will Smith was riding a red-hot streak. But one scene in that 1999 disaster left even the director shaking his head. Barry Sonnenfeld, who had just directed Smith in the blockbuster Men in Black, later admitted the moment “made no sense” and might’ve dragged the whole film down with it.

It wasn’t supposed to go that way. In the mid-’90s, Smith had been leveling up fast. He scored back-to-back hits from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to Bad Boys and Independence Day. Then came Men in Black in 1997. It dropped on July 4th weekend and cemented Smith as the summer box office king. So when Sonnenfeld pitched Wild Wild West, another summer spectacle with gadgets, comedy, and action,...
