In a bit of an odd turn of events, a largely forgotten sports drama has been climbing the charts on Netflix as of late. 2014's "23 Blast," which is based on the true story of a remarkable football player named Travis Freeman, has made its way into the Netflix top 10 movie charts, right alongside recent hits such as "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and "Trolls Band Together." So, why now? How is it that this decade-old football movie is finding an audience on the world's largest streaming service when so many other movies are available for one to stream? Bram Hoover brings to life Jerry Baker in 23 Blast, a key figure in this tear-jerking true story. 

Originally released in 2013, 23 Blast is back in the public eye as the inspirational drama comes to Netflix in the U.S. for the first time. 

The film is set in the real-life world of Kentucky high school football, following a young man named Travis Freeman who is suddenly stricken with a rare bacterial infection, loses his sight, and (against all odds) returns to the football field despite his disability.

After depicting their high school years in 23 Blast, the 2013 drama does not make it clear if main character Travis Freeman and his love interest, Ashley, marry after the events of the movie. 

Directed by star Dylan Baker, 23 Blast was originally released over a decade ago, recounting the real-life story of a high school football star who - despite losing his sight - overcomes the odds and retakes the field. 

The movie only recently came to Netflix in the U.S. and introduced Freeman's heartstring-tugging story to a whole new audience.
