I gave this a 3-star rating. I was not impressed by this. The acting was fair, certainly nothing great. The storyline was silly. It was slightly reminiscent of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer if that movie was really, really boring with lamer characters than it actually had. There was nothing inspiring about the death scenes at all - no gore at all. The "scares" if you can call them that were not scary. 64 minutes in, there's a special effect of a ghost in the window, which is truly pathetic. Seriously, a boring movie. I do not recommend. I apologize for the review being so boring, but it's an honest reflection of the boring movie I reviewed.
This movie did not meet expectations. The young actors were subpar outside of Briana Evigan. She wasn't great but not bad either. Plus, she was easy on the eyes. The "paranormal" was lame at best. The effects were pitiful and miniscule.
I just wanted to watch a scary movie and I've seen most I can possibly find so I figured I'd give this a try. I mean it can't be that bad right? Man was I wrong. I would have been better off watching one I've already seen. This was just terrible in every sense of the word. Please just don't watch this. It was a mockery to horror films!
Granted, I sat down to watch the 2014 movie "Paranormal Island" without ever having heard about it. I stumbled upon it here in 2020 and saw that it was a horror movie that had Lance Henriksen on the cast list. So of course I was intrigued, and needed no persuasion sitting down to watch it.
Well, I must say that writer and director Marty Murray didn't really manage to spew out a horror movie that was particularly outstanding or impressive. Sure, "Paranormal Island" was watchable, but it was by no means a memorable movie. And if you look aside from the dubious title, the movie can be watched.
The storyline was average, at best. But it was just painted with a thick layer of predictability, which did drag the movie down in its overall entertainment value.
The special effects in "Paranormal Island" were not impressive. I have seen far worse effects though, but don't expect to be dazzled by a display of overwhelming special effects and CGI here in this movie.
The cast was actually adequate, but Lance Henriksen was a mere supportive actor in this movie. So having his face and name on the movie's cover was just a ruse to lure in the audience. He was not in the movie very much actually. So that was disappointing.
For a horror movie, then "Paranormal Island" was just mediocre.
I am rating the movie a four out of ten stars. I wasn't overly impressed, but the movie was watchable. However, this is by no account a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.

Ok so in anything where a straight beats a flush I have to call it quits. Wrong rules, bad acting out of the gate, I did not waste my time nor will I ever. 🙄 I quit after 30 seconds, way to go.

- Goofs(at around 03 mins) During a poker game, a man outwits his opponent's 'flush' by beating him with a 'straight'. Which is factually incorrect since in poker a 'flush' beats a 'straight' every single time.
