This is more nuanced and slightly less cliché japanese romance movie. I liked the fact that music and the craft of making music played a large part in it. It makes it more interesting than your average high school love story and also, who doesn't like recording studios, instruments, songwriting etc.
The ending could have been better, but overall I enjoyed it.

I (accidentally) watched the Korean drama adaptation first.
This movie should have been turned into a drama as well. The cast did very well but the story left me hanging. This has been a common thing in Japanese movies...open endings.

Quite awhile back there were some animation musicals and a couple teen musicals done out of japan that were amazing, the script was quite good, and the music was beautiful.
Fast forward to modern times, with this elevator music and an average singing voice tv series coming out of japan, and leeching off what has been done in the past. Its a teen musical out of Japan, so its pretty good.
Wrong, its a drama with some elevator music, and I'm pretty sure no one in the crew knew much about music composition at all.
Anyway, go find -swing girls- in the original language with sub titles, or find- Nodame Cantabile in the original japanese with sub titles, or even -your lie in April.
Don't bother with this elevator goosh.
