Brenton Thwaites, star of the highly anticipated sci-fi adaptation The Giver, is about to become the next big thing.

Who Is Brenton Thwaites?

Thwaites, 24, is an Australian actor whose Hollywood career picked up this summer with breakout roles, co-starring in the thriller Oculus and as Prince Phillip in Maleficent, in which he acted opposite Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning. Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites ("Maleficent," "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening") has scored the lead role in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry's 1993 children's dystopian novel "The Giver."

The story is set in a society where pain has been eliminated through adhering to a plan known as the Sameness.

Thwaites plays a young man named Jonas who is selected as the next Receiver of Memory—responsible for the collective consciousness from before the Sameness.

He receives these memories from The Giver (Jeff Bridges). In the novel, Jonas is aged 12 so the role has to be aged up as Thwaites turns 24 this year.

Shooting begins this Fall in South Africa.

Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) is in negotiations to join Daniel Espinosa's Child 44, an adaptation of Tom Rob Smith's Stalin-era thriller set in the Soviet Union.  Hoffman would join Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman.  Hardy stars as a Soviet military policeman who investigates a string of gruesome child murders, but soon finds that his own government is stonewalling his attempts.  Deadline also reports that principal photography on the film is currently underway in Prague.  Hoffman will next be seen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and A Most Wanted Man. United Talent Agency has picked up another one of the Glee club. Jacob Artist will be joining Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, Jayma Mays and Melissa Benoist at UTA. The actor, who was previously with Apa, will be represented by UTA in all areas. He continues to be represented by David Dean Management. Artist joined Fox’s Glee this season as Jake Puckerman the half-brother of Noah “Puck” Puckerman who is played by Mark Saling. The actor was seen last year in Lifetime’s Blue Lagoon: The Awakening TV movie. Artist appears next in the feature The Philosophers as well as in White Bird in a Blizzard with Shailene Woodley, Angela Bassett and Gabourey Sidibe.

Total Recall Apparently the extended cut of Total Recall found on the Blu-ray is 12 minutes longer than what was shown in theaters. Thinking back on my theater experience I don't remember a problem with narrative gaps as much as I had a problem with the film's general ability to steal every single second of said narrative from previous films. I wonder of director Len Wiseman found a way to work even more scenes stolen from other sci-fi films into the running time. I guess I'll never know. The producers then launched a year-long search for a new writer, who they now seem to think they have found in Becky Johnston, writer of the very un-Salt-y Seven Years in Tibet and The Prince of Tides.

With Mark Wahlberg confirmed to lead the mega-franchise, Michael Bay started his search for the new young leads that will help the kiddies decide which toy they want most from the upcoming "Transformers 4." And it looks like a decision has been made, and no, you probably never heard of them, and shockingly, neither is a Victoria's Secret model either. Peltz beat out Isabelle Cornish (sister of Abbie Cornish), Margaret Quallay (daughter of Andie Macdowell) and Gabriella Wilde (Carrie). Meanwhile, Brenton Thwaites ("Blue Lagoon: The Awakening") has been cast as the boyfriend, the male lead who is a racecar driver. The actor beat Luke Grimes (Taken 2), Landon Liboiron ("Terra Nova"), Jack Reynor (The Delivery Man) And Hunter Parrish ("Weed") for the role. The film will take place four years after the last installment and is set to hit theaters on June 27th, 2014.

Having already set Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) to play Mary-Jane Watson, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 helmer Marc Webb has now turned his attention to finding a young actor to play Harry Osborn. The character was played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's trilogy of Spider-Man films, and now three candidates have emerged: Alden Ehrenreich, Brady Corbet and Dane DeHaan. Ehrenreich has starred in Tetro and Twixt for Francis Ford Coppola and will soon be seen in Stoker and Beautiful Creatures. Corbet's credits include Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene. DeHaan is probably the most recognizable of the three after a big 2012 that had him starring in Chronicle and Lawless, as well as appearing in Lincoln's cringe-worthy opening scene. Generally, approaching Lifetime's made-for-tv movies with low expectations is the most prudent road to take. That way, you can laugh at the hilariously poorly written dialogue and improbable situations without being disappointed. But sometimes that approach backfires -- like when the movies are highly enjoyable and eminently watchable without any major flaws, like "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening."

The reboot of the 1980 camp classic "The Blue Lagoon," about two Michigan teens (Indiana Evans and Brenton Thwaites) who get stranded on a deserted island together, had all the elements of an awesomely bad Lifetime flick: island setting, distraught mother (played by a great Denise Richards), teens discovering their sexuality. It's a remake of a campy movie to begin with, so it's not like you're expecting Shakespeare. Or even Nora Ephron.

But, much to our surprise, the dialogue was less wooden than normal, the acting was (mostly) believable, and the slow-mo montages were...

Actor Brenton Thwaites has been cast as Prince Phillip in Maleficent, Disney's live action version of Sleeping Beauty.

Thwaites will star opposite Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora and Angelina Jolie (who will play the title character) in the film, which is slated for a March 2014 release.

Plot details are sketchy, but it is understood that Maleficent is a take on Disney's 1959 animated film, told from the perspective of Aurora's nemesis, the eponymous witch.

Thwaites, who will be seen in a remake of Blue Lagoon on the Us Lifetime channel next month alongside fellow Aussie Indiana Evans, has starred in popular soap Home and Away and Fox8 series SLiDE.

He is currently in London, where pre-production on Maleficent has already commenced. The actor is represented by Shanahan in Australia and Wme in the Us.

Aussie newcomer Brenton Thwaites has signed on to play Angelina Jolie's prince in fairytale Maleficent.

The star of the recent TV movie revamp of Blue Lagoon, Thwaites will star alongside Jolie and Elle Fanning in the Sleeping Beauty adaptation.

Brits Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson and Kenneth Cranham are also onboard, according to Deadline.com.

Maleficent will be Oscar-winning production designer Robert Stromberg's directorial debut.
