The Seeding doesn’t rely on jump scares to frighten its viewers because the plot and characters are devilishly creepy on their own.

Haze is excellent: pacing, weeping, baring his teeth and adding ample unruly emotion to his prison.

Ironically for a film that unfolds almost entirely in a single, contained location, The Seeding is all over the place.

The corroded mineral walls, dehydrated trees, and all of nature’s other décor are wonderfully shot, and the performances aren’t to blame, but The Seeding just doesn’t have the storytelling mindset to protect its characters from looking like fools instead of victims of horrific circumstances.

Writer/director Barnaby Clay successfully keeps viewers on our toes, even if a lot of his movie feels like a series of programmatic jabs at our complacence.

The mixed mulch bag of a movie is ultimately a disappointment in construction and conceit — a putrid desert flower that never fully blooms.

There’s nothing interesting going on here.
