Netflix Thailand is adding a rags-to-riches series exec produced by the team behind How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies and a feel-good movie about snow sculpting to a nine-strong originals slate for 2025.
The streamer has unveiled one new series, one returner and six movies. As revealed last week, it is also putting a February 27 launch date on its upcoming series Dalah: Death and the Flowers.
The slate comes at a delicate time for Netflix Thailand, which this week saw originals chief Yongyoot Thongkongtoon exit for “personal reasons,” according to trade title Content Asia.
On the series front comes Mad Unicorn and the returning faith and finance drama The Believers. Mad Unicorn is from Thai studio Gdh 559 and is notable as the series directorial debut of Nottapon Boonprakob, a writer for One for the Road. Jira Maligool and Vanridee Pongsittisak, who were behind the megahit film How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies,...

After Season 1’s abrupt cliffhanger, there was no doubt that Peacock’s “Based on a True Story” was angling for a second season, and it’s the increasingly rare show to turn one around in roughly a year once that light turned green.
The first season of Craig Rosenberg’s dark comedy introduced Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina), a married couple living in Los Angeles who accidentally cross paths with active serial killer Matt (Tom Bateman) and decide to start a true crime podcast with him. As the specter of the West Side Ripper grows, so too does the podcast’s notoriety, and Matt sinks his claws into the lives of two people in way over their heads and dancing with the devil.
Also they all did drugs and made out with each other. But that was just a dream sequence.
With Season 2 dropping on November 21, here’s...

Hong Kong action flicks have been a favorite in the U.S., as well as mainland China martial arts films. Japanese horror has reshaped the genre in America and Korean zombie movies have recently been wowing fans stateside. One tragically slept-on brand of cinema, however, has been the amazing films of Thailand.
Thailand has a rich history of film and broke through briefly in the States with the Muay Thai kickboxing epic, Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior, in the early 2000s. Thai cinema is so much more than martial arts, with hilarious comedies that transcend cultures, and terrifying horrors with clever twists. Any movie fan owes it to themselves to check out some of these great Thai movies.

Following the masterful “Limbo”, all fans of (classic) Hong Kong cinema were eagerly awaiting Soi Cheang's next step, with the director opting for an even more classic Hk approach, that will remind many of the Wa Ka-fai, Johnnie To classic, “Mad Detective” with the latter actually being the producer of “Mad Fate”.
Mad Fate is screening at San Diego Asian Film Festival
Although the movie begins in a supernatural, but also slightly comical fashion, having occultist Feng Shui Master temporarily bury a woman underground in a cemetery in order to change her fate, it soon turns into crime thriller territory. During the same night, the Master ends up by chance in an apartment that functions as a brothel, where eventually a heinous crime is committed by The Murderer, a serial killer who has a tendency to be triggered by rain storms into killing sex workers. On the scene, there are also present Siu-tung,...
