One of my most anticipated upcoming anime series of the fall is You Are Ms. Servant . I could say it’s because it’s set to be directed by the experienced Ayume Watanabe Or because I want to see anime adaptations of comics published by Shogakukan continue to compete with Shueisha and its Shonen Jump giants. But then I would be lying. The real reason is that You Are Ms. Servant will feature the very first anime opening song composed and performed by the band Tricot. If you’re a fan of Japanese rock music, chances are Tricot is already one of your favorite bands. Since their founding in 2010 they’ve played across the world and released seven studio albums. Their music takes influence from local legends like Number Girl as well as American bands such as System of a Down. Some call them a “math rock” band but Tricot rejects the label.

While multiple Korean TV series have connected with global audiences, Japan’s production committees, terrestrial broadcasters and talent agencies have kept their TV industry tightly focused on a local market.
Anime and variety have long remained the Japanese TV industry’s best-known exports, while the premium end of the spectrum has largely escaped Japanese producers. That is despite multinational shows like Hulu’s “Shogun,” HBO’s “Tokyo Vice” and Netflix’s “House of Ninjas” underscoring the potentially substantial overseas interest in Japan-set live-action drama.
“House of the Owl,” set to begin airing on Disney+ and Hulu from next week, is both an outlier and a potential mold breaker.
A crime thriller about a behind-the-scenes political fixer and his chafing rivalry with his son, “House of the Owl” was conceived as a five-season ride along the lines of “House of Cards” or “Succession.” But overcoming the obstacles on the way to...

Many of the best anime focus on pursuing a career. From office work to superstardom, quite a few anime protagonists' stories center around chasing success in their work life. Viewers who are or have been in the same position, whether hunting for a job or trying to excel after landing one, will often find their experiences highly relatable even if they aren't in the specific occupation depicted. The subgenre started gaining a foothold in the mid-to-late '90s with shows like Golden Boy and Great Teacher Onizuka. But it really began to hit its stride and achieve its current popularity in the early 2010s with comedies like Working!! and The Devil Is A Part-Timer!
While the primary aim of these shows is to entertain, like the best anime for beginners, many also teach viewers the ins and outs of various industries and how the reality of each job differs from popular belief.
