10 Best Wrestling TV Shows, Ranked
Image
Wrestlemania season is the most wonderful time of the year for wrestling fans, particularly the ones who follow WWE. Spanning from New Year's Eve to around Easter Sunday, World Wrestling Entertainment will culminate their biggest storylines of the year and pay them off on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Though many will look at the Showcase of Immortals as the "season finale" of the long-running wrestling promotion's programming for that year, professional wrestling doesn't have an off-season. In fact, depending on which streaming services you subscribe to, you can find yourself watching in-ring action from a different promotion every single day of the week.

However, what if wrestling fans want to take a break from the squared circle in favor of more traditional shows? Obviously, there is a plethora of shows and genres to choose from, but maybe they don't want to stray too far from the world of "The Man" Becky Lynch,...

Randy Orton’s Biggest Regret in WWE Was Letting The Undertaker Down
Image
Back in 2005, Randy Orton was a 24-year-old hotshot in the WWE and prepared to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania 21. Orton was “The Legend Killer” and was given the opportunity to challenge The Undertaker’s legendary undefeated streak, which was a huge deal for any wrestler. So what did Orton regret most about that time?

He blew off all of the match rehearsals and let down a legend and learned a lesson about growing up. Years later, on WWE Untold and Broken Skull Sessions, Orton explained how being an arrogant kid almost cost him and contributed to why professionalism matters in WWE’s challenging world.

Randy Orton’s rookie mistake with The Undertaker

Can you imagine it’s April 2, 2005? The day before WrestleMania 21, a run-through just for Randy Orton‘s huge match. All the heavyweights are there, like The Undertaker, Orton’s dad Bob Orton, producers John Laurinaitis and Ricky Steamboat,...

WWE Star Forgets to Match Script After Getting Busted Open on SmackDown
Image
WWE matches may not be real fights, but they can be even tougher at times than fighting for real. Wrestlers have to stay focused and follow the script while dealing with the fast pace and chaos of modern wrestling, which isn’t easy, even for the best in the business.

Recently, on WWE SmackDown, we saw an example of this when Elton Prince, a member of the tag team “Pretty Deadly,” suffered a serious injury and started bleeding. In the heat of the moment, he forgot to kick out, showing just how intense things can get in the ring.

Triple H Waited for 28 Years to Get His Revenge From Shawn Michaels
Image
Triple H and Shawn Michaels have been the biggest influences on the fabric of pro wrestling. Their in-ring personas laced with crazy wrestling prowess have transcended them to near-Godlike beings whenever pro wrestling is being talked about. The two have been the best of friends and went to war with the world when the other was at stake.

Back in WrestleMania 25 and 26, when The Undertaker brutalised Shawn Michaels, Triple H chose to avenge Hbk. In the following couple of Manias, he engaged with The Phenom in two high-octane bouts that had brutality inked all over them. The two share an excellent chemistry and the cinematic storytelling that panned out every time, these two came together redefined the word ‘partnership’ in the squared circle.

Vince McMahon Making The Undertaker Cheat on His Pregnant Wife Did Not Give What He Wanted
Image
The Undertaker was Vince McMahon’s strongest soldier because the stories he had to endure could break an average wrestler’s career (and sanity). From the Fake Undertaker to the Greater Power storyline, Taker went with the flow and took chances with stuff no wrestler would ever touch. Being an undead wizard has its disadvantages as well. WWE has always had a soap opera-like storyline, but doing one with Undertaker was risky.

Vince McMahon tried, though. During the build-up to No Mercy 2002, he made sure both the Brothers of Destruction went through soap era-level stories. These angles were memorable but in an ironic way. The Katie Vick story is still remembered by everyone, but the Tracy angle is largely forgotten.

I Have New Found Respect for Kurt Angle After Shelton Benjamin’s Training Story About Brock Lesnar

An unstoppable beast who would lay waste to anyone and everyone along the way, Brock Lesnar redefined pro-wrestling in the best possible fashion. Even though he has been absent from the ring for more than a year now, the fans still crave to see him hit the titantron once again, and walk down the ramp, laying waste to whoever comes his way.

Over the years, Brock Lesnar has fought quite a few notable rivals. From the likes of Kurt Angle, Big Show, and The Undertaker, Lesnar moved on to John Cena, Roman Reigns, Triple H, Goldberg, and the list simply keeps on getting a lot more incredible. Apart from his WWE legacy, he also faced illustrious names in the Octagon, including the likes of Frank Mir, Randy Couture, Shane Carwin, Alistair Overeem, and Cain Velasquez. A man who...

WWE Veteran Stalking the Undertaker’s Wife Arc Was the Final Nail in the Coffin of His WWE Career
Image
Over the years, WWE has seen countless storylines carved, which either pushed superstars to the pinnacle of their glory or completely ruined their careers. One of the most burning examples of someone finding his stride with a particular storyline is Cody Rhodes. Ever since his return and his feud with the Bloodline, Rhodes shot through the skies and continues to be a major heartthrob for WWE fans.

Similarly, there have been storylines which the company had to cut short midway, or such was the drastic ilk of the same that wrestlers tasked with carrying it got buried under. One of the most specific angles that WWE wanted to utilise was that of a stalker. A popular example of this involved two legends, one of them being the legendary WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker.

WWE on Netflix: Vince’s Company Went From Earning $265M Every Year to a $5 Billion Deal Under Triple H’s Regime

While wrestling as a sport has existed since time immemorial, WWE has made the sport achieve new heights. The company has garnered everything one can think of in the sports entertainment industry. From Hulk Hogan to The Undertaker, it has been the home of the most iconic characters in the sport.

But the beginnings for the WWE were not that simple. The company, whose journey started way back in 1953, had modest beginnings. The company had to see several financial ups and downs and underwent several changes before Vince McMahon became the company’s boss in 1982. WWE’s fortunes since then have changed, and the company has never looked back.

WWE's Big Netflix Move Is A Disaster – And That Should Concern All Movie And TV Fans
Image
In January of 2024, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced that their flagship program, "Monday Night Raw" would be leaving cable TV behind and joining the world of streaming by moving to Netflix. The streaming juggernaut paid a whopping $5 million to join the WWE Universe, and at the time, I thought this was a great idea. After all, WWE is an internationally renowned corporation, with a global audience that has helped turn sports entertainment into a multi-billion-dollar industry.

As the leading streaming service across all continents, it made perfect sense for WWE and Netflix to join forces ... and then ratings numbers dropped like Mick Foley onto The Undertaker during their 1998 Hell in a Cell match. As a lifelong wrestling fan, I should know by now to always expect a swerve in WWE's storytelling, but I never could have imagined that this "perfect deal" would turn out to be such a disaster.

To be clear,...

Dwayne Johnson’s Most Electrifying Move Was Originally a Joke to Make The Undertaker Laugh

Dwayne Johnson, aka “The Rock,” might be Hollywood royalty now, but before the red carpets, he was WWE’s most electrifying and wholesome superstar. With a mic in one hand and a raised eyebrow in the other, The Rock gave fans some of the most iconic moments in wrestling history.

One move that’s gone down in both meme culture and WWE lore is the People’s Elbow. Flashy, theatrical, and completely ridiculous, in the best way possible, it turns out this fan-favorite finisher wasn’t even meant to be serious.

Brock Lesnar Is Innocent Till Proven Guilty and It’s Time Triple H Uses Him Like a Former WWE Veteran

Brock Lesnar has been a dominant persona in pro-wrestling, and the way he has gone about his business in the squared circle has been absolutely crazy. Ever since his introduction to WWE in 2000, he continued to call the shots emphatically. No matter the size of the rivals, he fought them like a beast and eventually cemented his legacy across the ring.

It all started in 2000 when he signed with WWF under the banner of Ohio Valley Wrestling (Ovw). He plied his trade alongside Shelton Benjamin as the two formed the Minnesota Stretching Crew. He made his main-roster debut on March 18th, 2002, attacking several wrestlers along the way. Eventually, he started walking with Paul Heyman, being labelled as the ‘Next Big Thing’.

Vince McMahon does not care who you are, if he wants to remove you from WWE he will chase you out, by hook or by crook. Something similar happened to NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal when he entered WWE’s backstage without a pass.

However, it turns out that War Machine, a character played by Terence Howard in that film before Don Cheadle took over the role in Iron Man 2, has been a big pro wrestling fan all along.

In the fourth episode of Secret Invasion, there's a scene with Cheadle as James Rhodes speaking with Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard) about Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Rhodes then describes the way he fired Fury as a WWE maneuver pulled off by The Undertaker. Mentioning Taker by name officially confirms that WWE exists in the MCU, and as in reality,...

Murray Melvin, a British actor known for his roles in The Phantom of the Opera, A Taste of Honey, Torchwood and Barry Lyndon, died Friday. He was 90.

His rep Thomas Bowington confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Melvin died at St. Thomas’ hospital in London.

Born on Aug. 10, 1932, in London, Melvin made his acting debut in 1957 with Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop Company in a production of Macbeth at the Theatre Royal Stratford.

‘Dark Angel’ – The Endorphin-Harvesting Dolph Lundgren Alien Movie You Should Probably Watch
Image
Not many horror films truly scare me these days. But alien horror? Even the ones substandard to most send me into a fear frenzy. That’s why I’m taking a deep dive into the sub-genre.

Welcome to Aliens Scare Me. A look into alien horror films on a case by case basis.

This month we’re probing deep into action/sci-fi territory with 1990’s Dark Angel; or depending on where you find it, I Come In Peace, starring the great Dolph Lundgren.

What It’s About

Rogue cop Jack Caine (Lundgren) has his partner killed by a gang of old white men called “The White Boys” (dead serious) who are subsequently murdered by a mysterious force using what appears to be a CD Rom disc as a weapon (still serious). While investigating, Jack and his new partner by force, Special Agent Arwood (Brian Benben), come across an gigantic alien...

WWE 2K23: How to Unlock Every Wrestler
Image
WWE 2K23 features quite a few improvements to the franchise formula that will certainly be welcomed by wrestling game fans everywhere. Of course, some things never change, which means that WWE 2K23 still makes you unlock quite a few wrestlers via gameplay accomplishments and by spending both real and virtual currency.

The very good news is that WWE 2K23 makes the various unlock processes fairly painless. The problem is that the game doesn’t always do a great job of telling you exactly how to unlock those wrestlers or the best way to go about acquiring all of them. Hopefully, we can help ease that part of the unlock system just a bit.

How to Unlock Every WWE 2K23 Wrestler With Virtual Currency

The vast majority of wrestlers in WWE 2K23 are unlocked via the game’s Virtual Currency (Vc) system. Every wrestler available via the in-game store costs 1,000 Vc to unlock.

Young Rock (2021)
How ‘Young Rock’ Writers Hiram Garcia and Brian Gewirtz Brought Dwayne Johnson’s First WWF Match to Life
Young Rock (2021)
Tuesday’s episode of “Young Rock” is a special one. Not only does the installment chronicle Dwayne Johnson’s first-ever WWF match, but the episode was written by those who are incredibly familiar with the events chronicled within: Johnson, Hiram Garcia and Brian Gewirtz.

The episode, titled “Corpus Christi,” marks Johnson and Garcia’s screenwriting debut, while Gewirtz was a longtime head writer for WWE. Combined, the trio distilled a wealth of knowledge and memories into a half-hour episode that also includes appearances by wrestling legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H – a task that they admitted was difficult.

“There’s so much story to tell in that limited space, but Dwayne’s got a great memory when it comes to those moments – especially these moments that are so pivotal for him – so he’s a great resource for us,” Garcia (who serves as president of production at...

WWE to Crash Into Nft Ring With Fox, Chasing Digital Collectibles Gold Rush
Image
WWE is the latest entertainment company to catch Nft fever.

The wrestling entertainment producer inked an exclusive, multiyear deal with Fox Entertainment’s Blockchain Creative Labs to launch an Nft marketplace for licensed digital WWE tokens and collectibles.

Under the pact, WWE said it will create “authentic NFTs that celebrate the company’s entire catalog of digital assets,” including iconic moments, WWE Superstars, and tentpole events like WrestleMania and SummerSlam. Details including the Nft marketplace’s name and launch date will be announced in the next few weeks, the companies said.

So what’s an Nft, and why would someone want to own one? In a nutshell, nonfungible tokens provide a way to authenticate ownership of unique pieces of digital content using distributed blockchain technology: NFTs are virtual collectibles akin to real-world artwork or baseball cards. The trend caught fire earlier this year in the art, music and sports worlds.

‘WWE Survivor Series 2020’ PPV Review
Image
Welcome to this long over-due review of WWE Survivor Series 2020, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the retirement of The Undertaker. In honor of the end of an era, I have reached out to one of the top bands of the 80s, HayrSpyke, to help us write the review in…a song! Yeah!

Match #1: The Miz won the Dual-Brand Battle Royal The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Miz claimed victory in the Dual-Brand Battle Royal on the Survivor Series Kickoff, catching Dominik Mysterio by surprise after seemingly being eliminated. The melee started anything but fortuitously for Miz, as tag team partner John Morrison was the first Superstar eliminated courtesy of Dominik. Murphy’s newly forged alliance with the Mysterios was on display as he attacked Dolph Ziggler immediately after The Showoff sent Rey Mysterio out of the ring. Dominik later scored payback by eliminating Ziggler.

The Rock Pays Tribute as the Undertaker Officially Retires from WWE
Image
The Undertaker officially ended his WWE run over the weekend at Survivor Series, and fellow wrestling star Dwayne Johnson joined the fans in celebrating 30 years of the Deadman. On Nov. 22, 1990, the Undertaker made his first appearance in WWE (then WWF) by debuting at that year's annual Survivor Series pay-per-view event. Exactly three decades to the day later, the world-famous wrestler returned for this year's Survivor Series for a Final Farewell celebration as fans and colleagues said their goodbyes.

30yrs ago today, he made his iconic #SurvivorSeries debut.

Like Everyone - I was in awe as a rookie in the @WWE when his first words pierced my soul as he walked in the dressing room and said, “Muthafucka” True story...

‘Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions: Goldberg’ Review (WWE Network Original)
After The Undertaker episode of Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions it was going to take a big name to follow that, and, for me, they didn’t follow it. I guess my thoughts on that come from the fact that I’ve never been a Goldberg fan. I watched WWF back when WCW was running and Goldberg was on top, and when he was in WWE I never really wanted to see him wrestle. Still, he’s a huge name from the history of wrestling, so I get it. He’s still popular, as can be seen anytime he appears in WWE, so this episode is likely one many people we’re happy to see. Austin has a way about him as an interviewer, bringing stories around to his personal experiences, comparing his career and life to those of his guests, and it helps the conversation feel casual and smooth.
