The Traitors

The Real Reason Amanda Clark-Stoner Left The Traitors
Image
Even if you're not really all that interested in the bizarro world of reality television, there is something about "The Traitors" ("The Traitors US" outside of the States) that just sucks you in. The show is based on the Dutch series "De Verraders" ("The Traitors" in Dutch) and it is one of only many, many official spin-offs, including "The Traitors UK," "The Traitors Australia," and the Swedish "Förrädarna." The reality series has become a massive hit just like its international brethren, following contestants as they play what is essentially a complex version of the party game often called "mafia" or "werewolf."

In all of the games, there are a couple of murderers among the group who are able to "kill" other members in secret and everyone else tries to root out the killers. It's a lot of fun at parties and it's just as much fun to watch on Peacock...

Every Season Of The Traitors, Ranked
Image
The Traitors UK Season 2 had fascinating storytelling and created archetypes around its players, making it a masterclass in reality TV. The Traitors US Season 2, with an all-celebrity cast, brought back interesting, complicated relationships and has been one of the most interesting versions of the series. The Traitors Australia Season 1 was chaotic and forgettable, with a cast of civilians and the use of shields changing the meaning of the game.

The Traitors has been one of the most interesting, highly received shows of the last few years, and with several international iterations of the series taking the world by storm, ranking them from worst to best is a necessity. Originating from a Dutch series with the same premise, The Traitors UK season 1 was the first of the international iterations to hit airwaves in 2022, followed shortly thereafter by The Traitors US season 1 in 2023. With the series taking on two different audiences and...

The BBC has acquired the Australian version of hit gameshow “The Traitors” for broadcast and streaming this summer.

“’The Traitors’ is an addictively fiendish format and I am so pleased that viewers can get their summer fix of treachery and suspicion as we head Down Under for the Australian version of the show on BBC Three and iPlayer,” said Nasfim Haque, head of content for BBC Three.

The Australian version follows the U.K. and U.S. adaptations of the Dutch series, which have both been a hit for the broadcaster. All3Media International reps global rights to “The Traitors.”

The tearjerking lesbian love scene deleted from Love Actually
Image
The festive season has rolled around again, bringing with it endless repeats of Love Actually on TV and streaming services.

But while Richard Curtis’s star-studded romcom may be a Christmas viewing staple, few fans know about one highly emotional LGBT+ relationship that ended up on the cutting room floor.

The plotline centred around an older lesbian couple who were connected to Karen (Emma Thompson) and her family.

It saw Anne Reid play the headmistress at the school attended by Karen’s son, while Frances de la Tour appeared as her terminally ill partner Geraldine.

The film was meant to feature a moving scene in which the pair bicker over their differing tastes in fancy sausages and display their wicked senses of humour, before cuddling up at night. It is later revealed during a school assembly that Geraldine died shortly before Christmas.

However, the story didn’t make the final cut,...

‘I’m such a sucker’: Joe Rogan ridiculed after falling for ‘father vs son boxing’ clickbait hoax
Image
Joe Rogan has been ridiculed by fans after falling for a clickbait hoax on YouTube.

The Joe Rogan Experience presenter has faced high-profile boycotts in the past over his platforming of conspiracy theories.

During a recent episode, Rogan was seen describing at length a boxing match he had seen that supposedly took place between a father and a son.

“I saw a video today of a boxing match between a father and a son. It made me so sad. Because there’s this young kid, he looks like he’s probably 17 or 18, and the father’s 42. And the father beats the s*** out of him.”

Rogan went on to describe the one-sided bout in detail, claiming that the younger fighter “definitely has brain damage now”.

“You just did that to your son. You’re supposed to just touch him up... You don’t tee off on your son’s face on television.

Claudia Winkleman reveals when The Traitors reunion will take place
Image
After the stunning conclusion to The Traitors, Claudia Winkleman has delighted fans by sharing that there is still more to come from this year’s cast.

The premiere season of the competition series came to a close on Thursday (22 December), in an episode that saw a total of £101,050 won by contestants.

Spoilers on the final of The Traitors to follow – you have been warned!

Wilfred, an original Traitor, narrowly missed out on taking the entire cash prize for himself when Kieran all but gave away his secret to the Faithfuls as he was being eliminated.

Hannah, Aaron and Meryl then chose to banish Wilfred and end the game. With no Traitors remaining, all three contestants won and split the money equally.

Winkleman, who hosted the programme, has been praised by viewers for her entertaining contributions to the show.

On Instagram, she shared a message of appreciation to fans and revealed...

The Traitors winner says show has taught her she’s ‘more independent than I thought I was’
Image
One of the winners of The Traitors has said that appearing on the show has brought out a more “independent side” to her.

The game show saw 22 strangers play “the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust”, where three contestants were chosen as “traitors” who must “murder” the remaining “faithful” participants while trying to stay above suspicion themselves.

*Spoilers for The Traitors finale below*

The show reached its climax on Thursday (22 December) night, with long-standing Traitor Wilfred and the newly recruited Kieran competing against Faithfuls Hannah, Meryl and Aaron.

However, Wilfred turned on Kieran, encouraging the Faithfuls to vote him out. But as Kieran left, he got his own back by hinting to the other contestants that Wilfred had been a traitor all along. Ultimately, the Faithfuls banished Wilfred and won the £101,050 prize pot between them.

Speaking after her win, call centre agent Meryl Williams, who has dwarfism, said that...

UK TV Ratings: ‘The Traitors’ Finale Steals Series High For BBC Show That Has Wowed The Nation In The Run-Up To Christmas
Image
The Traitors has been a revelation (Spoilers Below) and the ratings haven’t been bad either.

Last night’s finale of the BBC entertainment hit closed with 3.2M, a series high for a ‘word of mouth’ shocker that has steadily accrued viewers over the past weeks. For some, the Claudia Winkleman-hosted caper has really been all they can talk about.

According to Barb data supplied by overnights.tv, a share of more than 20 of UK TV watchers tuned in for a dramatic finale worthy of the bone-janglingly intense 12-part run, in which traitor Kieran was outed and then dramatically hinted at his fellow traitor Wilf’s position with the immortal phrase “a parting gift.” Cue chaos. The remaining faithfuls cottoned on and went home with more than £30,000 each.

The share was a 50 increase on the previous episode and the audience has been steadily growing through the run, an impressive...

The Traitors (2022)
We need to talk about that bonkers, heart-stopping Traitors finale
The Traitors (2022)
Has your heart stopped hammering in your chest yet? No, not because it’s Christmas Eve tomorrow. But because The Traitors – the best reality TV show of 2022 – aired its finale last night, with more twists and turns, backstabbing and roaring fires than Game of Thrones. And we need to talk about it.

BBC One’s sleeper hit (watched by more people in the UK than Netflix’s Harry and Meghan) saw 22 strangers play a game, akin to Mafia or Werewolf, in a Scottish Highlands castle in the hope of winning up to £120,000.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman – who was so invested in proceedings that she actually cried in the final episode – the show divided the contestants into traitors and faithfuls. The traitors “killed” off faithfuls one by one, all while trying to go undetected, and the faithfuls selected who to banish on suspicion of being a traitor.

It has been totally addictive for several reasons.

Something’s been bugging Helen Mirren about American Westerns
Image
Helen Mirren has shared the one thing that’s always bothered her about American Western films.

The British actor currently stars opposite Harrison Ford in Paramount+’s Yellowstone spin-off 1923, which is set in Montana in the years before the Great Depression.

Mirren and Ford play a married couple who run a cattle ranch, with Mirren speaking in an Irish accent on the show.

In a new interview with The Times, Mirren explained that her choice of dialect came after often feeling frustrated at the accents seen in traditional Western films and shows.

“It always annoyed me about American westerns that everybody spoke with American accents,” she explained.

“They were all immigrants. In Butte, Montana, they were from Cornwall – they have Cornish pasties there – from Wales, Scotland, from Ireland, from Moldova, from the Basque region in Spain. So this incredible mix of accents and cultures and food. And that is very much what created America.

‘Dame’ Claudia Winkleman: The Traitors fans want an OBE for presenter after season finale
Image
The Traitors fans are heaping praise on the show’s presenter after the first season reached its shocking conclusion on Thursday (22 December).

The BBC game show saw 22 strangers play “the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust” at a Scottish Highlands castle in the hope of winning up to £120,000.

The programme was fronted by Claudia Winkleman, one of the safest hands in the TV presenting business.

The veteran host had the key role of selecting the show’s “traitors” – those tasked with selecting which of the “faithful” participants must leave the show, while trying to stay above suspicion themselves.

Since then, she has followed along like the rest of us as chaos unfolded among the group. She even cried over one revelation in the finale.

“Can I also just say I adore Claudia Winkleman,” writer Mollie Goodfellow wrote on Twitter after the finale.

The Traitors star says game show has given her identity back
Image
The new BBC game show The Traitors reached its shocking conclusion on Thursday (22 December).

The programme, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, saw 22 strangers play “the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust” at a Scottish Highlands castle in the hope of winning up to £120,000.

Among the contestants was Amanda Lovett, a 54-year-old estate agent mother of five who told Pa news agency that the TV show gave her the chance to “have my own identity”.

Lovett was picked in the opening episode as one of three “traitors” tasked with selecting each night which of the “faithful” participants must leave the show, while trying to stay above suspicion themselves.

After being banished from the game in Tuesday (20 December) night’s episode, Lovett told Pa: “I’ve been with children and things since I was 19, and then married and working and it was lovely to have my own identity.

Why I am totally addicted to The Traitors, some of the best TV of the year
Image
When I ask people if they’re watching The Traitors on BBC One, there are only ever two answers. I either get an unbothered, indifferent shrug. Or a fervent hand reaches out and grabs mine, the person’s eyes widen and they whisper, “I. Am. Addicted.”

The Beeb’s new game show will conclude tonight with a dramatic final. The Traitors, essentially a televised 12-part game of Wink Wink Murder, has been something of a sleeper hit, but those in the know agree that it’s delivered some of the best telly of the year. Fronted by Claudia Winkleman wearing knitwear so snug it increasingly looks like it might smother her entire face, it puts a group of strangers in a castle and divides them into “faithfuls” and “traitors”. No one knows who the traitors are; each night the motley crew collectively vote to “banish” the person they are suspicious of,...

The Traitors’ Best Moments So Far: The Drama! The Deception! The Hilarious Tears!
Image
Contains Massive Spoilers For The Traitors

As all reality TV connaisseurs know, some of the best drama you can find on TV is not just in police procedurals, heists or Upside Downs; it is with real people living their lives (in front of the cameras) or real people in extraordinary situations (also in front of a camera).

The Traitors is a contender for the best TV drama and best comedy of the year. It is a perfect combination of paranoia, misplaced arrogance, over-the-top reactions, distrust, intrigue and ridiculousness. It is escapism in one of the best forms possible. The tension felt watching the roundtables on The Traitors rivals what I felt watching the last two episodes of Apple TV+’s Severance (honestly).

When we first saw the 22 contestants meet each other on a steam train to the Scottish Highlands in episode one, it all seemed very twee and polite; they...

Is Line of Duty returning? Fans aren’t so sure about reports – but they’re excited anyway
Image
Line of Duty fans are divided over rumours the show will make a grand return in 2023.

Reports have claimed that the BBC has “unfinished business” with the crime series, which came to an apparent conclusion in 2021.

While creator Jed Mercurio has never conclusively revealed that the show was finished, many assumed this to be the case.

The final episode ended with revelation of the identity of the enigmatic “H”, who was the leader of undercover corruption syndicate within the police force.

An insider told The Sun: “Viewers weren’t satisfied with the ending of series six and were crying out for a more sensational conclusion – now Jed can deliver that.

“The question is whether the person we were led to believe was H really is the villain that AC-12 has been hunting or if it was another nemesis.”

According to the source, “there’s also a theory another, darker puppet...

‘Best reality show of 2022’: The Traitors fans react to latest betrayal as another contestant kicked out
Image
The Traitors fans were shocked and delighted by the reality show’s latest developments.

In the BBC One series, which ends on Thursday night (22 December), contestants are divided into “traitors” and “faithfuls”.

Faithfuls are kept in the dark about the identity of their enemies, and the traitors choose which players they want to murder as the series goes on. The faithfuls, meanwhile, select who they want to banish.

When the competition, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, ends, the few remaining players will share the prize pot (which is being built up via a series of challenges throughout the show) if they are all faithful.

But if there is still an undetected traitor among them, the traitor walks away with all the cash.

Warning: spoilers ahead for the Tuesday 20 December episode of the show.

With just eight players left out of the 22 who started the game on last night’s episode, following Fay’s departure,...

Emily in Paris season 3 review: This cliché-riddled show isn’t as smart as it thinks
Image
Emily in Paris has had quite the ride. The first season, about a Chicago PR girl who heads to the City of Love, was critically derided, hailed as a sign that Netflix was giving up on quality TV and churning out formulaic shows instead. But creator Darren Star promised to iron out the kinks, and by the time season two rolled around, reviewers U-turned, claiming the show was now totally “in on the joke”. As the third run of episodes arrive on Netflix, I’m unconvinced. Is it enough for a show to be in on the joke if the joke isn’t a good one? Does knowing your show is clichéd make it immune to criticism?

The third instalment picks up mere days after last season’s cliffhanger finale, which saw the charming – or so we’re told – Emily (Lily Collins) in professional, emotional and geographical limbo. Does she...

The Flatshare review: This romcom won’t save the London rental market, but it might make you smile
Image
At a time when it feels like we’ve seen every romcom premise under the sun, the concept of two total strangers sharing a bed every night might be the first truly original idea I’ve heard in years. No wonder Beth O’Leary’s debut novel The Flatshare has been glued to the hands of train passengers and beach loungers since it was released in 2019. And now, among a sea of romantic comedies determined to deconstruct the genre, the TV adaptation on Paramount+ is charming and tightly written – knowing, but never snarky.

We open to the sight of mascara-streaked, recently dumped Tiffany (Jessica Brown Findlay), slumped on the floor as Paloma Faith warbles about how “only love can hurt like this”. In order to take control (and save money amid the hellish London rental market) post break-up, Tiffany is going to sublet a one-bed flat in south London. But this...

The Traitors: The Contestants Who’ve Been on EastEnders, Blankety Blank & More
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for The Traitors Episode 1.

New reality series The Traitors involves getting a group of strangers to form judgmental cliques, gossip behind each other’s backs and make accusations of wrongdoing, so yes, it’s a bit ‘shooting fish in a barrel’. Did the BBC even need to hire a castle? Set up cameras in the break room of any given workplace and you’ll get largely the same footage, give or take occasional scenes of giant wicker deer on fire as part of the tasks this lot also have to do to build their up-to-£120,000 prize fund.

Among Us-style, the game takes three of 20 contestants and makes them the titular Traitors, who have to evade detection while bumping off their fellow players one by one every night. Meanwhile, the ‘Faithful’ (everybody else) have to detect who the Traitors are and eliminate them in a toe-curling daily group...

‘Savage’: New BBC One competition The Traitors axes two contestants before game kicks off
Image
The Traitors, a new competition show on BBC One, has launched in “savage” fashion as it axed two contestants before the games had even kicked off.

Its debut episode on Tuesday (29 November) opened with host Claudia Winkleman greeting the 22 strangers as they arrived at a Scottish Highlands castle to play “the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust” with the aim of winning up to £120,000.

Before the contestants could get stuck in, Winkleman instructed them to line up in order from who they thought was least to most likely to win the competition.

Amos, a 30-year-old doctor from north London, and Kieran, a 42-year-old solutions consultant from Hertfordshire, decided to place themselves as the least likely to triumph.

That was a mistake, as Winkleman swiftly informed them: “Every decision you make has a consequence. Every single one. So, you two, you think you’re going to lose.

“I’m going...

The Traitors review: Claudia Winkleman’s new deception game might not be very Christmassy, but it sure is fun
Image
You know that moment on Christmas Day when your well-intentioned post-dinner game of Monopoly has been derailed by one family member, slightly slurring their words, accusing the rest of you of cheating? The Traitors, BBC One’s new reality competition series hosted by Claudia Winkleman, is the TV version of that. Deception, lying and trickery are key to this new format, a high-budget reinvention of party games like Werewolf or Mafia, mixed with the grand castle setting of Cluedo.

As with any new board game, the show opens with a complicated set of rules. A group of 22 complete strangers from across the UK have been brought together to compete for a cash prize of “up to £120,000” (whatever that means). But among them will lurk the “traitors”, contestants who every night will attempt to “murder” members of the group without being caught. If any traitors remain in the game at the end,...

BBC’s The Traitors Review: the Reality Show About Backstabbing and Lies
Image
This review is spoiler-free.

Finding out there’s a new reality TV show format is like finding out there’s a new brand of cigarette on the market. They’re still making those things even though they kill people? The chemical rush obtained from watching estate agents make each other cry must be a powerful high to justify the death toll and spin-off media careers.

Dutch-Belgian original De Verraders doesn’t use estate agents, but celebrities. Professional sportspeople, actors, models and presenters compete for a prize fund in what’s billed as the ultimate game of suspicion and lies. Since 2021, the format has spread itself around the globe faster than a new Coronavirus variant. There are now versions in France, Norway, Spain, Belgium and Australia. There’s also one in Russia, where you’d think the word ‘traitor’ might not get bandied about quite as readily. Confusingly, the American version...
