Entertaining stalker thriller

A decent Korean thriller that fits the mold of so many similar genre films of late. Home invasion, cybercrime, stalking etc. It doesn't do much to improve the formula, but it will do for a casual watch.

The film minimizes blood and guts, instead playing up the psychological terror that victims suffer from cybercriminals. Our protagonist really does go through considerable distress with hardly any way to protect herself since the elusive villain's methods are scarily effective. He often hides in plain sight, and the screenplay cleverly keeps him hidden until late in the story. Thus we have both a mystery and a stalker thriller that plays its cards straight, with little diversion from the main plot.

It does progress into something more conventional later on, and it might have been more memorable if it strayed from the norm. But we'll have to do with what's presented here, and that's a polished piece of tension building that doesn't do anything to impress, but just about scratches that thriller itch before you move on to something better.

Mediocre drama

A young woman deals with a creepy boss as well as a scammer who turns into a vindictive cyber-stalker after she confronts him online. Unfortunately, this felt uncreative and rather generic, complete with a car chase that by all rights should have been the end of the film, but no, it dragged on longer. Throughout the film the woman puts herself in unnecessary danger, the police are always understaffed and one step behind, and the killer moves in linear ways. It's reasonably well made, but I think anyone could have written this. It may pass some time on a long airplane ride if you have nothing better to do though.

You get what you pay for

Well maybe not entirely and always - sometimes it is also what you make of it ... no pun intended anyway. And also you can never know who you are dealing with. I know that when I "clap back" (metaphorically and verbally that is) with some people ... I sometimes think: maybe I shouldn't do that ... I have no idea what their mind set is after all.

So the movie takes this to a different degree one might argue. Good acting and overall structure when it comes to where this ends up and also when you think about how little "story" there is. It is just about something offered, the person receiving having an issue with it (rightfully so) ... and everything going upside down.

The deserved Target

Should you watch this movie as you feel like watching a Korean Movie. Short answer yes. But there's always a but.

As we all know there are crazy people in online, and the best thing to do is to ignore them especially if that person have your information. But fortunately for this buyer who got scammed, decide to triggered the scammer. And paid the price.

It's actually an informative movie teaching you how or what scammer could do with your information. Should you want to try it out yourself or prevent yourself.

I really wanted to praise the movie, but it got so really stupid at the end, that maybe she deserved it all.

An Electrifying Dive into the Dark Depths of Cyber Intrigue

From start to finish, the movie had me on the edge of my seat, skillfully keeping the identity of the culprit a mystery. Initially, the possibility of a team orchestrating events added complexity, only to be overturned later, leaving breadcrumbs that pointed to a lone individual. The film skillfully navigated the suspense, making it impossible to pinpoint a suspect. What sets this thriller apart is its intense portrayal of cyberbullying. Unlike other movies in the genre, the impact felt remarkably potent. The storyline weaves through a tapestry of clues, keeping the audience guessing until the very end. With seamless pacing and a narrative that evolves organically, the movie transcends typical cyberbullying portrayals, delivering a gripping and intense experience. A must-watch for those seeking a thrilling ride with a fresh take on a familiar theme.

Underrated

Soo-hyun buys a washing machine online and gets scammed. She posts a review stating what happened, and everything hits the fan when she's targeted by the seller for posting the bad reviews. Too real life? Well, (not) surprisingly, this is kinda-sorta based on a true story. With the Korean films I've seen, the crazier the plot, the more likely it's going to be based on a true story... 😮

Acting - really good. The film's been well shot. Plot - well written, I wish the climax had been written in differently, slightly dramatic for my liking, but no major complaints. The film isn't rated well, but I see that as a pattern with Korean movies that aren't mainstream. 6.5-7.5 films are actually pretty decent but not rated well for whatever reason.

You might have watched several 'survival' films such as this, but this 'intense thriller' is still worth a watch, especially since it's based (mostly?) on a real life situation.

Suspenseful thriller. Not a masterpiece but still pretty solid for the genre

I didn't expect much from the premise of the movie, which is about online shopping, but was pleasantly surprised by the dramatic turn of events that happened.

The movie centers around a woman who is the victim of an online scam but when she tries to expose him she discovers that the scammer is a serial killer.

The cast's performance is pretty good with the main character Soo-hyun played by Hae Sun Shin, who is definitely brilliant when it comes to showing her range through different types of movie genres. I can feel the character's emotions really well through the screen, from anger, annoyance, despair to fear. The detective characters, played by Sungkyun and Tae-oh, did bring some flavours to the table as their presence may lighten the mood.

I find some of the action scenes pretty violent, but effective and memorable as it definitely had me on the edge of my seat especially towards the end.

7/10. Recommended

This is one of the best Korean thrillers i've watched recently. It's not great, i'd say it's not even very good but still better than i expected. At least, there is good acting here. Unfortunately, many Korean actors tend to be melodramatic and their acting seems lately more "forced" than natural. Too many awkward scenes. This is not the case here. I really enjoyed it, actors did a good job and they were convincing. In general, it felt real. Crime/thrillers are not very realistic but this one addressed some real issues of reality today. I empathised with the characters and the villain was really hateful, meaning that the writers did a good job portraying him.

It's not a big budget production. There are many intense moments. Ending was unexpectedly good, i mean, usually, in this genre, a lot of dumb things are happening in the end. Not here.

Any fan of crime/thriller movies will find it at least watchable. For me, it was better than "just watchable".

Thriller Suspense with a point to make

This is a flick that delivers the basic requirements of its genre. Assuming due to its small but talented cast that it was shot with a low budget, I think it's done with mastery and taste. The lead actress Shin Hye Sun is a very talented one and I've been a fan for years. (You've seen Mr. Queen? That's the one. Versatile and never over the top.) The scenes are mostly well-shot, including the immediately engrossing intro which, I think, could have been a little longer. The tempo is nice and without rushing it or drawing it out, the premise is introduced in the natural course of the plot.

In other words: done with a small budget but doesn't feel cheap, well shot, tempo optimal for its kind, good acting.

I don't want to mislead, though: it is a forgettable movie mostly relying on plot tropes and though certain risks the criminal takes to go about doing his stuff might slightly challenge suspense of disbelief, that feeling will go away as soon as you pay attention to what is implied in the movie about the inefficiency and priorities of police force regardless of what desk takes on what task as long as it is a nobody -read your average citizen- that is to be protected.

That's secondary to the point that the movie makes, though. What's it that they drive home loud and clear? That the internet has basically become the Wild Wrst for us nobodies. *

It's a nice movie to pass the time. It's not one to make an impact. (More character development would be needed for that as well as veering a bit more into the drama side.) *: Well, most of us know what dangers await internet users in this era where we can do almost anything on the internet and yet can never be too sure of our safety, which we just entrust to a variety of things: security software, reputable institutions, police force etc... Even then, skills and/or knowledge we don't have overpower us. We entrust our safety really more with the idea, a fact most of the time, that we are not important enough to be a target online.

That's the exact victim profile certain types of criminals need, however, like when governments rob us relying on our numbers, for instance, or when companies know we are too small to fight back as individuals such that we have to suck it up most of the time if we find that we're wronged..

The crimes that nobodies commit against nobodies, too, operate on the same principle:you are a target when it becomes obvious that no one has your back. It's what a predator watches out for in their prospective prey.

So why do we make stupid mistakes when we know we can never be too careful? Well... When you find yourself having to constantly budget your finances, you kind of have to forget you're making a bet on your own wellbeing, to a certain extent... Any decision made by the protagonist that might look stupid hinges on that fact about her. It is up to you to accept that. I find it very realistic in that sense.

TLDR; If you don't mind the plot progressing solely due to the incompetence of the main character, the police, and everyone close to the main character and want a thriller about a cyber-stalker, then you should maybe consider this movie.

Starting off with the positives, I think that the thriller side of the movie is done very well. The movie gets intense at times and does well at conveying the stressful moments. This is mostly thanks to the very well acted performance of the mc, but also due to the nicely executed introduction of the villain which made him/her a real unhinged threat. I also liked some of the creative shots in the movie.

Moving on to the negatives, the biggest negative is that everyone in the movie makes the dumbest decisions ever, by either not taking the threat seriously or by sheer incompetence. It's hard to write about this without going into spoilers but I don't think it's hard to imagine what I mean, since this is all too common in this genre. The ending also felt rushed, again it's hard to write about without going into spoilers.

Very good. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Really good movie. It's a bit slow in the very beginning, but it quickly gets progressively more heart pounding as it gets further along. I was at the edge of my seat for a substantial duration of the movie. Been a while since a movie managed to do that for me. Did not expect it to be so thrilling going in. The villain's identity is kept well hidden until towards the end of the movie as well, which keeps you guessing. There are red herrings and false hints too. It also serves as a pretty good warning to people to be careful of scammers in real life, and to not deliberately provoke hackers that already have your personal information. That can get you in a heap of trouble. I also have to commend the main actress, she did a terrific job. I would rate this a 9, since there are a few minor things, and it's not perfect, but the movie is CRIMINALLY underrated at 6,5, so I'm giving it a 10 to hopefully help bump the score up even just a little. Definitely watch this movie! Then give it a good rating when you're done, if you liked it!

Wasting time

Give me my 2hours back.

What a absurd stupid story without any direction.the movie is very bad, poor writing, pooor dorection.

Female lead has done really good job to that character but the others are just bogus. Director need to learn direction and screen play too. The absurd chase i have ever saw in a movie. Very bad writing. And what's more important that the villain has no connection with the woman and showing over the coubter of hacking and all look like 5 years old kid wrote the story. It needs more improvement. Please make some good thriller movies from next time. And till then tata good bye .

Shin Hae-Sun never disappoint you

The movie is a very good investigative thriller 👌 Writing & screenplay is excellent 👏 Meanwhile for Shin Hye Sun headlining this movie, I knew she's gonna be great for this role and it really is, her acting performance is freaking insane. She will never disappoint you. Though i hardly see any film but by chance i happened to watch this movie . Felt like as if this is happening in real. Not even once i liked to get up from my chair. My soul really got happy with the character which hae-sun played with seriousness. Not only she looked extremely beautiful but also did full justice with the character. I cry with her Oh my God ! The last scene was most powerful and later Salute to the Director and all team for making such films. And my good wishes will always remain with Hae-sun for bringing true smile to my face. The ending is so crazily scary, It will make you think - hard.

It's shin hae sun's movie. Ofc its worth the watch

Never regretted trusting hae sun's script selection. Go watch it. It will keep you on edge entire time. Real life problem is touched here. Not many major cases are seen because police usually ignored it but we as a society need to pay attention to every minor crime going on. If you ask me if a beginner should watch it or not then I'll say YES GO FOR IT. You are already starting your kmovie journey wit a amazing choice. The actors did well. The story progress gave many emotional moments as well. I feel satisfied watching this. COME ON GUYS GIVE IT A TRY YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED ITS WORTH WATCHING.

UP TO SNUFF...!

A South Korean thriller from last year. When a downtrodden renovation manager, Shin Hye-sun, has had enough w/her broken washer & decides to buy a new one, not from a store, but from a reseller, Im Seong-jae, things go from worse to murderous. It turns out Seong-jae is a serial killer w/a particular bent; he targets a victim, kills them & resells their stuff down to the apartment studs but when Hye-sun complains & tracks him down to lay out some real complaints, bringing in a detective, Kim Sung-kyun, to assist as the bodies mount & Seong-jae tries to blackmail Hye-sun into her being left alone. Other than the goofy translated title (don't know the exact translation from Korean) & some lapses in thriller logic, this film is ripe to be remade here in the States where purchases from social media sites have become a cottage industry unto itself. As to the originator, it moves at a clip & some of the set pieces (a car chase through the narrow alleyways of the city is a true edge of the seat draw) are so well done I can't wait to see Michael Bay's overblown retake.
