What better place to draw inspiration for an exorcism movie than The Bible?
Unholy Song ties back to the Miracle of the Gadarene Swine, an exorcism performed by Jesus Christ as chronicled in the New Testament.
After releasing an evil witch from its cursed tape, a landlord and his two new renters must confront their fears and skepticism to cast the entity in the back into the bones of the swine – and forever trap the evil under the original spell.
Written and directed by Arthur G. Night, the indie horror film will be released in select theaters on February 28.
Jessica K. Chaves, Christopher Orozco, Quint Gabriel, Sean Gestl, and Eric Parkinson star.
“It’s hard for a low-budget indie thriller to compete with the $50-million+ major studio releases,” says Parkinson. “But we think Unholy Song is a pretty cool film, and we’ve already seen terrific audience responses.”

Since the days of visionary filmmakers like Ray Harryhausen, movies like Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts have explored ancient mythology to great effect. Considering the range of budgets and varying styles of directors, some have stuck close to the original story, while others opted for different perspectives. With Christopher Nolan set to adapt Homer's epic The Odyssey to the big screen, it's time for Hollywood to abandon a tired trend.
The ancient world has given movie fans an array of stories, from wholly original epics like The Lord of the Rings to historical films like Gladiator. Mythology often represents a combination of both, delivering audiences a look at history that blends fact and fiction.

Jeopardy! had fans and former contestants losing their minds on Tuesday night (January 21) after the second Champions Wildcard semi-finals ended in one of the boldest wagers in the game show’s history. Tuesday’s game saw a three-way showdown between Will Yancey, a lecturer of history from Banquete, Texas, Jay Fisher, a government relations manager from Lisle, Illinois, and Evan Dorey, a data analytics director from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The match-up started off pretty evenly matched between Yancey and Dorey, with the latter taking a slight lead with $7,800 by the end of the first round, while the former followed closely behind with $5,200. Fisher trailed in a deficit, with minus $400. Things heated up massively in the Double Jeopardy round as Yancey and Dorey went back and forth. Firstly, Yancey took control of “The Bible” category, nailing each clue and finding a Daily Double, wagering big and doubling his score to take the lead.

A new year has arrived, and while there is no telling what the year ahead might bring – after all, networks have surprised us countless times in both good and bad ways – we’d be lying if we didn’t say we’re more than a little worried about the futures of these 22 shows which could very well be in danger of cancellation in the year ahead.
That’s right, we’re here to talk cancellations and the shows we’re most worried about in this near year that has only just begun!
With the calendar turning to 2025, renewal decisions will soon begin to be made as networks take a look at their current slate of programs and begin planning for the future. The history of Paramore as a band is an interesting, yet tumultuous one. In the small town of Franklin, Tennessee, Paramore was originally conceived by teenagers Hayley Williams (lead singer), Jeremy Davis (bassist), and brothers Josh and Zac Farro in 2004. Their rise was meteoric following "Misery Business" and the band has never looked back since, even if it has evolved in time.
In that time, Zac and Josh Farro would exit Paramore, but that's not even the most interesting part. Bandmates come and go all the time. It's a part of the natural evolution of any band. What's most interesting is that while Josh has continued to stay away from the band, Zac Farro has since returned to Paramore.
It's rare to see band members return to the band they left years after, but to see one brother return while the other hasn't is the real headscratcher. To understand why,...

"Game of Thrones" had an enormous cast and was filmed in locations all across Europe, from Iceland to Malta. It needed both to do justice to the world and characters described in author George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire," but the complicated logistics almost meant that recasting of B-list and below characters was inevitable.
For example: original Night King actor Richard Brake was replaced by Vladimir Furdik in season 6. Since the Night King's blue-skinned make-up remained the same, this recasting could escape notice. Other actor swaps on "Game of Thrones" were more obvious -- like how Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane was recast not just once but twice.
In both the books and TV series, the Mountain earns his name from his enormous size. He's about eight feet tall and half as wide, and his sword dwarfs many of the men he cuts down with it.

This week marks 35 years since Monty Python’s Life of Brian hit theaters in the U.K., several months after its U.S. release enraged American evangelicals. Of course, the backlash was very much a thing in England as well.
The most famous artifact of this controversy is the the heated debate, on the show Friday Night, Saturday Morning, that found John Cleese and Michael Palin taking on Bishop of Southwark, Mervyn Stockwood and Christian journalist Malcolm Muggeridge, who, incidentally, was later outed as a “serial groper” of women.

Frequent Monty Python collaborator Julian Doyle, who edited Life of Brian, has a new book out about the film. But The After-Life of Brian isn’t about the film’s production, it’s seemingly more about the film’s representation of the historical time period compared to The Bible. According to Doyle, the movie is by far the more trustworthy source.

If you’re going to remake a classic Stephen King adaptation, you’d better do it right. Nobody’s ever topped Brian De Palma’s original “Carrie,” no matter how hard they tried. “It: Chapter One” knocked it out of the park, but “It: Chapter Two” brought it back into the park and poured manure on it, so they more-or-less cancel each other out. The TV mini-series remake of “The Shining” isn’t as bad as everyone remembers, but let’s not go nuts. It’s pretty grim when the 2019 version of “Pet Sematary” is your gold standard, since quality-wise even that’s just a lateral move.
Gary Dauberman’s remake of “Salem’s Lot,” however, raises the bar. It may be the only Stephen King remake that gets it right. Tobe Hooper’s classic mini-series adaptation from 1979 is still scary, and it’s a heck of a lot more insidious than Dauberman’s,...

For Jonathan Roumie, “The Chosen” felt like a blessing from God.
The star, who plays Jesus Christ in the historical drama based on the New Testament of the Bible, told TheWrap that booking “The Chosen” saved his life. About six years ago, the actor said that he was at his lowest point and knew that something had to change. It was then that he committed his life to his faith, and the wheels started to spin again.
“I was broke, I was out of food, I was desperate and I had no options. All I could do was surrender my circumstances, my career, my life, my finances, everything over to God,” the actor told TheWrap. “Three months later, I booked ‘The Chosen.’ My life’s never been the same since, and so I give all credit to God’s impact in my life.”

Despite having been a part of some of the biggest franchises ever — “X-Men,” “Indiana Jones,” and soon, “Star Wars” — James Mangold is making his disdain for “multi-movie universe-building” known.
The “A Complete Unknown” writer/director told Rolling Stone that he doesn’t “do multiverses” when it comes to his own filmography. Mangold was asked if he considered re-casting Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash in Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” as Mangold directed Phoenix as the singer in 2005 Oscar-winning film “Walk the Line.”
“I don’t do multiverses,” Mangold said. “But beyond that Johnny Cash was like, 30 [during the ‘A Complete Unknown’ era]. I love Joaquin, but he’s not 30, or whatever Johnny was at this moment.”
Instead, Mangold reunites with his “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” actor Boyd Holbrook, who will portray Cash alongside Timothée Chalamet’s Dylan.

The Chosen's emotional impact comes from non-Biblical plotlines like Ramah's death, adding depth to the series. Show creator Dallas Jenkins weaves in new nuances to biblical stories, challenging audiences with unexpected twists. Controversial moments like Ramah's death serve to explore themes of suffering and loss in a thoughtful way.
Surprisingly enough, the most heartbreaking death in The Chosen didn't originate from the Bible. Audiences have adored the series due to its biblically accurate retelling of numerous stories from the Bible. This adoration allowed the show to release four seasons, start production on The Chosen season 5, and confirm seven seasons. However, no adaptation is ever perfect. Early in the series, some completely made-up characters and plotlines are not from The Bible. Nevertheless, the show was accurate enough to draw in several audiences in Christian faiths and beyond.
Showrunner Dallas Jenkins has decided what to add to the story of Christ and His disciples.

Can I interest you in a horror movie about Jesus? How about a horror movie about Jesus ... starring Nicolas Cage? The new movie "The Carpenter's Son" will be just that — a horror pic inspired by the unknown childhood years of Jesus H. Christ himself. For those of you not very schooled in a little book called The Bible, just know that after Jesus' birth is recounted, almost nothing is known about his childhood. The traditional story traditionally jump-cuts to his adult years when he's starting out his ministry. However, there are unofficial, uncanonical texts that recount Jesus' youth, including the apocryphal gospel the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. This apocryphal gospel will be the basis for "The Carpenter's Son," which hails from director Lotfy Nathan.

There’s something delightfully bold and daring about Mary & George, the sexy new Starz drama starring Julianne Moore (May December), Nicholas Galitzine, and Tony Curran (Daredevil). American Pie revolutionized raunchy comedies and brought them back to the mainstream, capturing the essence of teenage angst and camaraderie. So far in the history of “killer bear” cinema, only Grizzly Park opens with an excerpt from The Bible. As “The Children Destroyed by Bears” goes (without getting too deep into other interpretations), a pair of bears mauled many kiddos after they insulted God’s prophet. The absurdity of such a tale would naturally lead to a movie just as, if not more inane. However, who or what exactly is pulling the strings in Tom Skull’s one and only directed feature is not so clear, at first. Is this fuzzy destroyer acting of its own free will, being manipulated by a human, or is there really an omnipotent force meting out bizarre retribution for naughty youths? In a movie as oddball as Grizzly Park, not a single one of those notions would be considered unsuitable.

Before The Chosen, there had never been a long-form, multi-season television series about the life of Jesus Christ. There have been plenty of movies, sure. Even a mini-series or two have faithfully chronicled the New Testament story. Failed attempts at a multi-season continuation have resulted in wondering whether it's even possible to make a successful TV show about Jesus. That said, it almost feels miraculous that this series (produced entirely independent of Hollywood) could become as popular on a global scale as it has. But perhaps The Chosen's latest entry — the long-anticipated Season 4 — helps us better understand why this sort of thing has never properly worked before.

BAFTA-winning designer Sam Barlow has teased his next two games – one in the vein of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and the other a “very cool” sci-fi horror.
British designer Sam Barlow keeps challenging the conventions of videogames with each project he makes. Known in the 2000s as the creative mind behind Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, he later broke out as an indie developer with the terrific Her Story, Telling Lies and Immortality. Those all used live-action footage and cunning user interfaces to create some truly absorbing interactive thrillers; the latter rightly won a BAFTA for its narrative in 2023.
Since then, Barlow’s been quietly working on two follow-up titles, which have recently been given teasing entries on Steam. The first, currently dubbed Project C, doesn’t give away much – there are some atmospheric graphics of a woman’s eye and what appear to be red clouds or smoke,...

There are a wide variety of Jesus movies that range from traditional biblical epics to more nuanced and creative approaches to the story. Some of the best Jesus movies highlight the role of Mary in Jesus' life and explore unique perspectives on his story, such as through satire, character studies, or experimental filmmaking. These films aim to showcase the awe-inspiring power of Jesus, his miracles, and the impact he had on his communities, making him a popular figure in cinema, particularly among the Christian community.
There has been a wide variety of films about Christianity's Messiah and son of God since the birth of cinema, and the end result is some of the best Jesus movies ever made. As far back as the silent era, several films have been made about Jesus Christ, and he still remains a popular figure within cinema, especially among the Christian community. Out: Snakes. In: Something libidinous. Craig Robinson and Claudia O'Doherty's characters, Craig and Jillian, put aside their snake-wrangling ploy (somewhat) for a newfound money-making venture that’s bound to get a rise — literally. As the rap sound continues to make waves across the globe - often far from the Black communities that birthed it - a young artist is emerging in the international scene, who is using the genre as a platform to speak up for her community. J Noa, a 17-year-old Dominicana from the San Cristóbal region, was recently signed to Sony Music Entertainment. Calling herself "La Hija del Rap," she's rising in the scene as an artist with a style that is reminiscent of the genre's rebellious beginnings, all while adding her own fresh take, her native Spanish language, and authentic flow to the mix.

According to TMZ, the rapper, who has been surrounded by controversy in recent months after making a series of antisemitic comments, held a private ceremony with Bianca Censori to celebrate their love.
However, the publication stated that it doesn’t appear that West and Censori have filed a marriage certificate to make it legal, despite the musician being seen wearing a ring on that finger.

Mark Burnett, chairman of MGM’s Worldwide Television Group, has left the studio, IndieWire has confirmed.
Burnett announced the news to staff in an internal memo, which IndieWire has obtained and can be read below.
The news comes months after Amazon officially acquired MGM in an 8.5 billion deal finalized this March. With Burnett leaving, MGM’s television and film arms will be without a head, as Michael DeLuca and Pam Abdy left the company a month after the acquisition was confirmed.
Burnett has been with MGM Television for eight years, when he was named president of MGM Television. He was named chairman in 2018. Under his direction, MGM Television vastly expanded its output by acquiring production companies like Evolution Media, which develops shows in the “Real Housewives Franchise,” and Big Fish Entertainment.

Mark Burnett has formally resigned from his top leadership role at MGM, a move that comes 10 months after Amazon closed its 8.5 billion acquisition of the studio.
Burnett’s departure from the MGM fold is not a surprise. The producer, known for enduring unscripted hits including CBS’ “Survivor,” NBC’s “The Voice” and ABC’s “Shark Tank,” has not served as a conventional TV executive during his nine years with MGM and was not expected to stick around after the sale.
Moreover, as a significant equity holder in MGM, Burnett profited handsomely from the Amazon deal. In the nine years since he first sold his One Three Media production banner to MGM, Burnett has reaped an estimated 900 million.
In a memo to MGM staffers, Burnett said he intended to pursue new ventures as a producer. He also emphasized that he worked hard to ensure that MGM TV’s roughly 150 staffers were...

It's no stretch to say that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure can be a bit weird at times, since it's right in the title, but sometimes that weirdness extends to the series' subtitles, like with part 8, Jojolion. While other parts had names like Stardust Crusaders or Diamond is Unbreakable, part 8 somehow ended up with Jojo in it twice, but this time smashed into another word. So what does Jojolion mean, and why did series creator Hirohiko Araki choose it?
For Jojo, part 7, Steel Ball Run, and part 8, Jojolion, are a little different from other installments of the series. In 2005, just a year after it started, Steel Ball Run was moved from Weekly Shonen Jump to the monthly Ultra Jump magazine, which caters to the older "Seinen" demographic, rather than WSJ's younger "Shonen" demographic. Jules Dassin’s powerful picture was a hit in Europe but remained mostly obscure here, despite featuring the great Melina Mercouri and a score of Continental stars. Adapted by two blacklistees in exile it doesn’t try to hide its revolutionary aims — Nikos Kazantzakis’s uncompromised storyline places The Church as a main obstruction to social progress, justice, and life & liberty. It’s no wonder it wasn’t ‘movie of the week’ in 1957. It’s been beautifully remastered at its original CinemaScope width, uncut.

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we’ll shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. If you’re looking for some family-friendly, faith-based viewing, the options out there can seem lacking. This What We Do in the Shadows season 2 review contains no spoilers.
FX’s horror comedy mockumentary series What We Do in the Shadows season 2 rises from the crypt to present classic-style comedy worthy of the ancients yet not entirely at odds with the modern world. Staten Island’s favorite vampires – Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) – continue to make a mess of their community, tradition, monster standing, and genre. Their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) continues to mop up mortal and immortal remains.
These aren’t the scariest vampires in the tri-state area. They’re not even the scariest bloodsuckers in a three-block radius of the house they share. One of the best things about What We Do in the Shadows is how it presents the dangers to the vampires. Most shows and movies about the thirsty undead make them out to be the threat.

Bedser joins the company, based out of London, as Evp of Factual Series, Documentaries and Specials, reporting to MGM’s President of Unscripted & Alternative Television and Orion Television, Barry Poznick.

Bedser spent five years as the Managing and Creative Director of Burnett and Downey’s LightWorkers Media, based out of London.

Another month, another smattering of new Netflix titles to sift through. And it seems the online streamer is kicking off 2020 with a host of juicy horror movies and TV shows.
First thing’s first: there’s a number of big-name titles leaving the service next month, including Panic Room, Grease, American Pyscho, and the Spartacus series. That’s disappointing, to be sure, but among the January 2020 titles are news installments of Grace and Frankie and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, along with all three Lord of the Rings movies and the Kill Bill films. And it doesn’t stop there.
We’ve compiled the full list below, but a special mention must go to two particularly exciting horror additions: Sam Raimi classic The Evil Dead and Tremors.
Jan. 1
Ghost Stories (Netflix Film): Short films from Indian directors behind “Bombay Talkies” and “Lust Stories.”
