Australian actress Andrea Solonge has become the twelfth recipient of the Heath Ledger Scholarship.
Solonge was announced as recipient of the prestigious award at an Australians in Film event held last night at Soho House in West Hollywood attended by the likes of Yellowjackets actors Melanie Lynskey and Simone Kessell, The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo and Rabbit Proof Fence director Phillip Noyce.
The award was established in 2012 after The Dark Knight actor Ledger had tragically passed away. It has broadly become the key barometer and platform for new talent coming out of Hollywood, with previous recipients including American Horror Story: Apocalypse actor Cody Fern, Mojean Aria (Reminiscence), Ashleigh Cummings (Citadel), Charmaine Bingwa (Emancipation) and Rahel Romahn (A Mad Max Saga).
Solonge will receive a $10,000 living allowance, rent and transport assistance in LA, plus several other prizes aimed at building her career in Hollywood, such as private coaching, tax advice and headshot and publicity aid.

“Borderline,” a detective series from Lionsgate Television, is heading to the Roku Channel for its U.S. premiere on Sept. 1.
Per the official logline, in the series, “straitlaced detective inspector Philip Boyd of North Ireland finds himself working alongside his foul-mouthed Republic of Ireland counterpart, detective inspector Aoife Regan, and although neither are happy about the partnership, the two must put their personal and professional differences aside to solve the brutal cases of victims along the border.”
The cast includes Eoin Macken as Philip and Amy De Bhrun as Aoife. Lochlann O’Mearáin also stars.

Amazon MGM Studios has handed an official pilot order to Band, a drama created and executive produced by Daniel Barnz who will direct the pilot and serve as showrunner on the potential series. The Crown and Pieces Of A Woman star Vanessa Kirby has joined the jury of the fourth edition of Wscripted’s Cannes Screenplay List presented in collaboration with global streaming platform Mubi.
The initiative, launched in 2021, supports screenplays by women and non-binary writers and writer-directors. The list is pitched to producers during the Cannes Film Market to expand deal opportunities for the nominated talents.
“It is a pleasure to join Wscripted on this brilliant initiative. There is still such a clear disparity between the number of male and female led projects, and I am so pleased to unite with Wscripted to support and elevate the next generation of formidable female talent that I know are going to shape the cinema of the future,” said Kirby.
Alongside her acting career, Kirby co-founded production company Aluna Entertainment in 2021, alongside former Film4 exec Lauren Dark, with the mission of championing female creatives and stories.
