M. Night Shyamalan's new Jake Gyllenhaal movie is eying a major Bridgerton star to join the cast. After the success of Trap, Shyamalan's next movie is a collaboration with best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks co-created the story, with reports in January noting that Shyamalan was writing the script and Sparks was writing a novel based on the same idea, with both tailored to their respective mediums. The untitled Shyamalan film, which Sparks is executive producing, is described as a supernatural romantic thriller, with Gyllenhaal starring.
Deadline now reports that Phoebe Dynevor is in negotiations to star opposite Gyllenhaal in the untitled Shyamalan film. Dynevor rocketed to fame in 2020 with the release of Bridgerton on Netflix, in which she played Daphne Bridgerton. There's no word yet who exactly Gyllenhaal and Dynevor will be playing in the new film, or what the movie's story will be. The report notes that Shyamalan's production company,...

Over turmeric tea one evening, double Oscar winner Cate Blanchett talks about the secret of relationships and how to survive the current news cycle. The answer? Jump into the ice…
Cate Blanchett saw in the New Year in the Arctic, with her husband and four children, by cutting a hole in the ice and jumping in. It was -30C and she wore a “funny hat” for the cold and, “It was fabulous,” because, she says, “Everything… paused.” It’s February now, and the restaurant near the river is just beginning to fill with evening diners when Blanchett slides between the tables in her tartan “chicken feeding coat” and striped shirt, collar popped. “Who are they murdering out the back?” she shouts – the noise of dough being pounded in the kitchen sounds as if they’re beating somebody to death and means we need to lean in, over her pot of turmeric tea.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) was spotted getting into a cab with singer Kid Rock as they left President Donald Trump‘s inaugural ball at 2:30 a.m.
On January 20, Boebert, who, along with her mom, is a big fan of Rock, had been “fangirling” over him. The Colorado representative was seen devoting her rapt attention to the rock star throughout the concert.
Later, the singer and congresswoman, who are both dedicated Trump supporters, were seen getting into a cab together at about 2:30 a.m.
Boebert’s press secretary refused to comment on the dating rumors.
Boebert is no stranger to the gossip pages. During the New York Young Republican Club’s annual gala in April 2024, Boebert misbehaved by having too much alcohol and was asked to stop taking selfies with President Donald Trump.

When Mumbai commercial powerhouse Reliance Industries and Disney India decided to team up and form India’s largest broadcasting, production and streaming business, it was clear the ambition was as big as the $8.5 billion price tag slapped on the deal.
Reliance, owned by India’s most wealthy man, Mukesh Ambali, had control of channels biz Viacom18 plus ultra-popular low-cost streamer JioCinema and its sports content for a cricket-mad nation, while The Walt Disney Company’s Indian assets included Disney+ Hotstar, the leading streaming service in the country after its 2021 launch, and the Star India networks. When the Sony and Zee Entertainment Enterprises merger collapsed under the weight of regulatory scrutiny, the pathway became even clearer for the new kid on the block to assert dominance.

The first official poster for Warner Bros.' animated The Lord of the Rings prequel film, The War of the Rohirrim, has been released.

The Middle Earth adventure, which is set almost 200 years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic trilogy, follows the mighty first King of Rohan as he mounts a defence of the fortress of Hornburg (which came to be known as Helm's Deep) from a relentless siege.
“This is the story of the most powerful king in Rohan's history, someone who defeated his enemies with his bare fists,” director Kenji Kamiyama said in a recent interview. “Why did his lineage have to end with him? I think there is a lesson in hubris there and also for...

The superhero genre has traditionally been family-oriented. Often light-hearted and ending with a moral message, PG-13 is what most of these films aim for. However, every now and then there comes an R-rated superhero flick that completely blows off adult minds, forcing them to be hyped like kids again. And the Deadpool series did just that.
A still from Logan
However, Deadpool wasn’t the first R-rated superhero movie, and it certainly won’t be the last. Most of the time, R-rated movies earn much less than their PG counterparts, and just like Deadpool, that rule is occasionally broken. As in the case of Logan, which successfully clawed through its family-friendly genre to present a bloody masterpiece.

Exclusive: BBC News’ search for its first royal editor has been blown wide open after the British broadcaster passed over two leading internal candidates.
The BBC has advertised the royal editor post externally for the first time, just days after it was expected to be offered to either Mark Easton, BBC News’ home editor, or royal correspondent Daniela Relph.
The prestige on-air role is likely to attract interest from high-profile external candidates, with BBC sources already speculating that Roya Nikkhah, The Sunday Times royal editor and CBS News contributor, would be the candidate to beat, should she wish to apply.
There is anger, however, that Easton and Relph have been overlooked. “The whole thing stinks,” said an insider familiar with the process. A second person added: “Daniela and Mark are very very unhappy.”

Lachy Hulme as Immortan Joe in Furiosa brings a fresh take, making the prequel less predictable. A lesser-known talent like Hulme contrasts with big names in the cast, adding excitement and surprise. Furiosa's focus on back story, new characters, and an atypically star-studded cast sets it apart in the Mad Max series.
The news that Lachy Hulme will play Immortan Joe in the Mad Max spinoff Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is great for the prequel, assuaging any lingering concerns over stunt casting. Furiosa will be a departure for the Mad Max franchise in various ways. The upcoming prequel will be the first installment of the series that doesn’t focus primarily on Max himself. Instead, Furiosa will flesh out the backstory of Fury Road’s heroine, played by Charlize Theron in the 2015 movie. Furthermore, Furiosa will be an atypically starry affair, something the franchise has only leaned into on occasion until now.

Beginning her journey with Pixar eight years ago, as a storyboard artist on The Good Dinosaur, Rosana Sullivan made her directorial debut this year with Kitbull, which on Monday made the Academy’s shortlist for Best Animated Short Film.
Examining a fiercely independent stray kitten and a pit bull, and the unlikely friendship that emerges between them, Kitbull emerged from Sullivan’s desire to capture animals in animation, the way that they actually are. “I love cat videos, as we all do, and I just wanted to draw a kitten being a kitten, because I never saw that done in animation, at least not often. Usually, they’re anthropomorphized, and I just wanted to capture the spirit of a real kitten,” the director tells Deadline. “It then evolved into something about connection and friendship between two outcast characters, because that was something that I had struggled with as a kid.

2018 will probably be a very memorable year for Zoe Kazan. The 35-year-old actress is best known for her roles in films such as “The Big Sick,” “Ruby Sparks” and the HBO mini-series “Oliver Kitteridge,” but she’s also an accomplished screenwriter. Kazan wrote the screenplay for “Sparks” and co-wrote the acclaimed indie “Wildlife” with husband Paul Dano that debuted at Sundance last January.

Todd Rundgren had a loving history with the band that taught him almost everything he knew about music.
Rock Hall of Fame Class of 2019 nominee Todd Rundgren is a musicians' musician who consistently puts art in front of fame. A True Star, which is also the title of his 1973 album, he broke onto the scene with two romantic pop classics, "Hello, It's Me" and "I Saw the Light" off his third album Something/Anything?; explored the intricate maneuverings of prog rock with his band Utopia, and scored one of his most and least recognizable songs just banging on a drum all day. Rundgren never shied from referencing his musical influences, or ripping down his own idols. Ten years after The Beatles proclaimed "All You Need Is Love," Rundgren confirmed the message when Utopia's Oops! Wrong Planet closed with "Love Is the Answer." But not all Todd's encounters with the Beatles were loving.

I know absolutely nothing about "Sparks", the 70s pop band out of Los Angeles that has achieved cult status in music aficionado circles. That makes Edgar Wright's next directorial effort a must-watch for me since his documentary on the musical duo of Ron and Russel Mael explores their 50+ years of work from formation to the current day. As IndieWire reports, Wright's next directorial effort will have nothing to do with comic books, variously aged drivers, or blood and ice cream. He's currently combing the archives to put together decades' worth of information on "Sparks", having …...

Part and parcel of Taika Waititi’s M.O. is a sneaky, self-effacing cameo – think of the director’s surprise appearance in Hunt For the Wilderpeople, or his direct involvement in quirky horror title What We Do in the Shadows.
Turns out Thor: Ragnarok is no different, as Waititi called upon motion-capture technology to bring Korg to life, along with an additional two characters. Speaking to Empire (via Cbm) as part of Ragnarok‘s ongoing press tour, Taika Waititi confirmed that he played the part of Surtur, the fearsome fire dragon, and a third surprise character:
I am one of the heads on the three-headed alien, this character called Haju. I’m the head on the right. And I’m also the motion-capture for Surtur.

[This post contains details from The Biggest Loser episode that aired Sept. 11]
After Rachel Frederickson’s controversial victory last season, the producers are giving themselves a second chance with The Biggest Loser: Glory Days. All 20 contestants this year are former athletes, which theoretically should mean their minds and bodies are better suited for the intense regime expected of this competition. These former champions already know what it takes to be a winner but also understand the concept of limits and discipline, something Frederickson was criticized for lacking. Though it gets a little annoying how many times the trainers say it, this does have the potential to be the best season yet.

It's very possible fans will know Bell and Howard from their work in other films and television shows -- Bell plays Nell Sweetzer in "The Last Exorcism" series and portrayed Karina in webisodes for "The Walking Dead," while Howard's lengthy career in film and television includes credits in everything from "Apollo 13" and "Frost/Nixon" to "Star Trek" and Disney's "The Jungle Book." In "Sparks," Bell took on the role of Lady Heavenly, the vigilante romantic interest of Sparks, while Howard plays Gordon Eldridge, the head of the newspaper. During their interview with Cbr Executive Producer Jonah Weiland, Bell and Howard discussed the draw of "Sparks" and the challenge of bringing superheroes to life on a budget.

Up-and-coming actor Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End and "Video Game High School") plays Ian Sparks, a masked vigilante who "discovers the dark side to heroism." IMDb's synopsis leaves out the super-powered group Rochester 13, but they're in this trailer. The cast includes Ashley Bell, Clancy Brown, Jake Busey, William Katt, Marina Squerciati. Science Fiction has always played a pivotal role in cinema. It is a means by which we can look into the future and speculate as to what “could be”. Our only limit is our imaginations, and our imaginations provide an infinite number of possibilities. With that being said there have been some incredible films that allow us to look forward and wonder, “what if?”. Whether it is the existence of extra terrestrials or humankind’s self destructive nature – these possibilities are fascinating.

Chicago – The first annual Chicago Critics Film Festival, presented by the Chicago Film Critics Association and dedicated to Roger Ebert, will take place this weekend, April 12-14, 2013 at the Muvico Rosemont 18. With over 20 films programmed, this will be your first chance to see many of the biggest films of the year, and some of these films may never play again in Chicago. Great documentaries, exclusive premieres, and celebrity guests — here are my personal highlights and links to get your tickets.

“Stories We Tell”
Sarah Polley has transitioned from actress to director with remarkable ease, delivering the critically acclaimed “Away From Her” and “Take This Waltz.” Her latest film happens to be about her own drama as the documentary “Stories We Tell” attempts to answer questions about her mother’s past and becomes something of a commentary on how and why we tell these stories in the first place.
