Dean Cain says he is "unapologetic" for defending the legacy of American Sniper Chris Kyle against disparaging comments from celebrities, calling Kyle "a hero." "I tend to react the way I would react if someone were in the room with me," the former Superman tells People Now about his Tweets slamming Michael Moore and Seth Rogen for their seemingly critical comments about snipers and the Oscar-nominated movie. "Had he said what he said in the room with me, my exact response would have been what I said: 'Seth, I like your movies, but right now I want to kick your ass,...

All the fuss over American Sniper - the Oscar buzz, the red-carpet premieres, the political debates - was not real-life sniper Chris Kyle's thing, says his friend, actor Dean Cain. "It would be absolutely and completely surreal and strange to him," Cain tells People. "And he'd probably want to go fishing. I'm not kidding. He'd go horseback riding. He'd want to do anything but be in the public eye." "But," Cain adds, "if it was able to help his fellow servicemen, Chris would be fine." The Navy Seal and the former Lois and Clark star became tight when they...

The real-life American Sniper, Chris Kyle, was more than "an ultimate warrior," says Sarah Palin, he was her friend. As the screen version of Kyle's story stirs both controversy and box-office records, Palin spoke with People via email Wednesday about the former Navy Seal killed in 2013. Palin first met Kyle in 2011 when, already retired from the military, he helped with security at one of her public appearances. They bonded when Kyle went on to star with Palin's husband, Todd, in the reality TV competition show, Stars Earn Stripes. Below, Palin responds to People's questions about the film, the controversy, and...

American Sniper focuses on Chris Kyle's military service and his difficulty adjusting to life back home, but what the movie doesn't show is Kyle's attempt at a TV career.
The man widely regarded to be the deadliest sniper in U.S. history was once on a NBC reality show hosted by former Et correspondent Samantha Harris called Stars Earn Stripes.
News: Michael Moore and Seth Rogen Respond to American Sniper Criticisms
The competition show paired up celebrities with military operatives who mentored the celebs through the experience of day-to-day military operations. Kyle was teamed with Dean Cain.

Since Survivor first debuted on CBS in the summer of 2000, Mark Burnett has been and remains one of the leading impresarios of the Reality TV genre that he in many ways created Stateside. In a genre where longevity and legacy are still being created, Burnett reflects on the state and shifting fortunes of Reality TV, why American Idol has stumbled and how he literally anchors his shows to success. Samantha Harris is undergoing treatment for breast cancer. In a routine self-examination last fall, she detected a lump in her right breast. A prior mammogram was clean, but sensing something was wrong, the TV host met with another specialist months later. The former Stars Earn Stripes host sought the opinions of three different specialists. In the end, Harris was advised to either get a double mastectomy or a less-radical second lumpectomy with radiation. Harris chose to get a double...

A lawsuit brought by a former New York police detective that alleges that NBC's Stars Earn Stripes was stolen is moving to the next round. Richard Dillon, who worked for the NYPD for 20 years and has been a consultant on TV shows, brought the lawsuit last November. He came up with an idea for a reality TV show that pitted celebrity contestants against one another in competitive events designed to mimic the training received by Navy SEALs. Among those he's suing for taking his WGA-registered treatment is NBCUniversal and series producers Dick Wolf and Mark Burnett. TV Review:

Going into Monday's two-part finale for "Stars Earn Stripes" (Mon., 9 p.m. Et on NBC), there were two men and two women left out of the eight that started in the military reality competition series. By the end of the night, only one would remain standing, and it was someone who was familiar with holding championship titles.
Todd Palin was knocked out in the first hour, leaving Dean Cain to battle two female competitors for the top prize: gold medal winner Picabo Street and two-time WWE Divas Champion Eva Torres. Perhaps it was their experience with competition and victory, but Cain fell to both women.
In the end, it was Torres who won the top prize for the Uso; her charity of choice. For winning, she eared an additional $100,000 for the charity, in addition to her earnings throughout the competition.
Ratings dipped to just above 3 million viewers for last week's penultimate installment.

Update, 5:17 Pm Thursday: Sarah Palin’s comments on Facebook about her Republican Convention speech being canceled may be part of an elaborate negotiating tactic, according to New York magazine. Palin’s contract is supposedly up in January, and Fox News is considering what kind of new deal they will sign, if they decide to keep Palin at all. At roughly $1 million a year, Palin is Fox’s highest-paid contributor, the magazine said. Additionally Fox execs have been underwhelmed by Palin’s ratings. And Palin hasn’t been happy when Fox hasn’t given her top billing. Sources cited by New York say things have been so touchy that all communications have been through her husband Todd Palin, currently one of the contestants on NBC’s reality series Stars Earn Stripes. Additionally, Palin’s Facebook commentary likely did not endear her to Fox News chief Roger Ailes, who values discipline and loyalty.

Hardwick discussed the actors and athletes that inspired his career, and Judson, who was involved in broadcast journalism before making her acting debut in The Newsroom, mentioned her personal trailblazer as well. Even Rubin got in the act, revealing his own personal inspiration in the clip above.

Nick Lachey has already received considerable criticism from veterans for his military-themed reality show, "Stars Earn Stripes," and now the executive director of Log Cabin Republicans, R. Clarke Cooper, is taking aim at the singer's controversial competition.
"Nick said the show was 'a once in a lifetime experience.' Well, I know a terrific Army recruiter who can guarantee Nick a true 'once in a lifetime' experience," Clarke texted me.
No stranger to the military himself, Clarke served in Iraq in 2004 and is furious about the new NBC show.
"As a combat veteran, I find that show is an insult to those who actually wear the uniform," Clarke wrote. "Every vet I know thinks the show is either a joke at best or offensive at worst. The show is Doa with the military, regardless of political affiliations. The producers are clearly tone deaf."
Although Clarke said political affiliation has nothing to do with his outrage,...

On this week's installment of "Stars Earn Stripes" (Mon., 9 p.m. Et on NBC), teams were tasked with climbing down a rope from a helicopter in flight to take out a fuel supply. Then, they had to rappel down an eight story building and take out three more targets. Nick Lachey and his military partner were teamed up with Terry Crews and his for the challenge.
Lachey was left dumbstruck after watching Todd Palin freefall from the helicopter, but he was determined to do it for his team. That's not to say he didn't nearly quit the competition out of fear. But he stuck with it.
"When you’re in a band, even in a boy band, you become one of the squad," he explained. "This competition is no different. You don’t want to let your team down."
Unfortunately, Crews and Lachey took the longest to complete the mission...

Dean Cain and Todd Palin's controversial new NBC show, "Stars Earn Stripes,” is getting a lot of criticism, but Cain says even if he doesn’t win the competition he’s a winner -- because he and his co-star Todd Palin are raising money for military charities.
“The whole reason we were there was to say 'thank you' to our men and women in uniform. We are playing for charity and all the money goes to military charities, first responder charities and law enforcement charities,” Cain told me on the set of "New York Live."
“Todd Palin is awesome. He is a very quiet, soft-spoken guy. But he is an all-Alaskan man. He’s an outdoors man. He’s won the Iron Dog race -- a 2,000 mile snow mobile race -- four times and taken second five times. He’s a tough, tough guy. We saw Sarah [Palin] and she’s wonderfully sweet.

On Sunday, hours after the Summer Olympics officially came to a close in London, NBC aired their pre-ceremony montage of the Games’ medal-winning moments. Michael Phelps’ final race. The Fierce Five. Misty and Kerri’s volleyball three-peat. The women’s soccer team. Triumphs that brought Americans together, albeit briefly, to cheer and chant “U.S.A! USA! USA!” as champions proudly draped themselves in the stars and stripes. It was a moving sight to see athletes achieving their dream and basking in the patriotic power of the national anthem.
Then the Games were over and the Olympic torch was extinguished. On Twitter, where NBC has taken its lumps these past two weeks, New Yorker writer Andy Borowitz quipped, “The goal of the Olympics is to inspire us about what humans can achieve, and the goal of the closing ceremony is to return us to reality.” The past 16 days may have...

The day after the premiere of "Stars Earn Stripes," former "Superman" actor Dean Cain stopped by "Fox & Friends" to defend the controversial new NBC reality show that features celebrities tackling military-style missions.
Cain responded to an open letter written by nine Nobel Peace Prize winners, including Desmond Tutu, that criticized the show for glorifying war and "armed violence." Cain pushed back against their argument. "This whole show is a love song to our men and women in uniform ... We're not trying to glorify war, we're glorifying service," he said.
He also talked about the severity of the military-inspired challenges. "In this show, there's no pretend, it's the real deal," he stressed. "We have real guns, real ammo."
TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.

After years of apathy toward the rampant skirmishes and squalid living conditions of Flavor Of Love, a coalition of Nobel Peace laureates has finally come together to protest another reality show—NBC's Stars Earn Stripes, the competition in which myriad, loosely defined "stars" engage in military exercises under the watchful eye of retired U.S. General Wesley Clark, who went through all that for this, apparently. The collective, led by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, recently wrote a letter to NBC president Bob Greenblatt (who read it while astride a nuclear missile plummeting to earth) decrying the show for comparing war ...

After over two weeks, Monday was the first night of television without the Olympics. But with three premieres, there was still a lot of onscreen action even on NBC. Coming off the XXX Summer Games being the most-watched event in U.S. TV history, the network had the brand new Stars Earn Stripes (1.7/5) and the second season return of Grimm (2.0/5). In fast nationals, Grimm was down 5% from its series premiere on October 28, 2011 but garnered its second highest rating ever. Hosted by former Nato Commander and Presidential candidate Wesley Clark, the Mark Burnett-produced Stars puts celebs like Dean Cain, Todd Palin and former NFL player and The Expendables actor Terry Crews through simulated military challenges. The show looks to have some challenges of its own, Stars Earn Stripes was down 23% from the debut of fellow competition show Love in The Wild last summer on NBC. With its Olympics coverage done,...

I'm taking over the meme today for the vacationing Ed. I'll try not to buckle under this responsibility and valor. Onward!
First, the bad news: St. Kylie Minogue had an affair in 1994 with her Street Fighter costar Jean-Claude Van Damme. Not that we blame her.
I'm not done geeking out about The Price is Right's search for a male model -- a "Barker's Brawny," if you will. The winner will be decided through a five-episode webseries where viewers can vote for their favorite candidate. The selected stud only gets to model dinette sets and jetskis for a week, but I'm hoping he'll be as excited to be a part of the show as unforgettable contestant Steven Raff was.
Kind of hard to believe that the 2012 Olympics were the most watched U.S. TV event in Nielsen history. Who knew that America cared about Matthew Mitcham's Speedo this much? I'm actually crying.

Stars Earn Stripes has been criticised by a group of Nobel Peace Prize winners for glorifying war. The NBC reality show, which premiered last night (August 13), sees a group of celebrities including Dean Cain, Nick Lachey and Laila Ali attempting to tackle various challenges based on real military training exercises. The show's host, retired army general Wesley Clark, has said that the series aims to introduce Americans to "the individuals that sacrifice so much for all of us". However, nine Nobel laureates have now written an open letter complaining that the show glorifies war, The Guardian reports. The message - which was sent to Clark, NBC executive Robert Greenblatt, producer Mark Burnett and other people linked to the show - claims that the "programme pays homage to no-one anywhere" and is "trying to somehow sanitise war by (more)...

Earlier today, several antiwar groups banded together to protest Stars Earn Stripes, NBC's latest reality show (er, "war-o-tainment") in which eight "celebrities" get paired with real military men and put through military-style training, which premiered tonight. Rustling up the signatures of eight Nobel Peace laureates, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a coalition made up of Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace, and Peace Action sent Peacock chairman Bob Greenblatt a letter pleading with him to cancel the show because it "sanitize(s) war by likening it to an athletic competition" and "continues and expands on an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence."Ultimately, the network chose to go ahead with tonight's premiere, which featured the likes of former NFL player Terry Crews and former Alaskan First Husband Todd Palin "swimming in full gear, shooting targets, crawling in the mud, and blowing up a building," recapped Reality TV Magazine.

"Stars Earn Stripes" debuted on NBC Monday night (Aug. 13), featuring eight celebrities paired with eight actual military personnel, embarking on training missions and competing for cash prizes to be donated to their various first-responder and military-related charities.
After each celeb was paired up with his or her military counterpart, they were assigned an amphibious assault mission to destroy a cache of weapons. But before they could embark on the mission, the celebrities had to be trained -- which actually did not seem like it lasted very long at all. And then it was mission time.
The mission involved being dropped out of a helicopter, swimming to a Zodiac boat, taking out a guard tower with a grenade launcher and targets with a machine gun, then crawling under barbed wire, breaching a shack and moving ammo into the shack. Once clear, they destroy the shack. The celebrities from the slowest team...

Nine Nobel Peace laureates are calling on NBC to cancel its competition show Stars Earn Striples as the network aired the first episode tonight. The show hosted by retired U.S. General Wesley Clark puts eight celebrities such as singer Nick Lachey and Sarah Palin’s husband Todd through military-style training including helicopter drops and long-range weapons firing. Celebrities are paired with former members of the U.S. Marines, Green Berets and other forces to compete for a cash prize that goes to a charity of their choosing. New York — Nine Nobel Peace Prize winners are speaking out against a new NBC competition series they say treats military maneuvers like athletic events.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the other Nobel laureates protested in an open letter that the show, "Stars Earn Stripes," glorifies war and armed violence.
The series, which premiered on Monday night, pairs celebrities with inactive U.S. military personnel for simulated military challenges. Celebrity participants include boxing champion Laila Ali, Superman actor Dean Cain, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd Palin.
The program is hosted by retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark.

NBC debuts a new reality show Monday night (Aug. 13) called "Stars Earn Stripes," which pairs celebrities with U.S. military personnel and puts them through simulated military training. But nine Nobel Peace Laureates want the show pulled by NBC because "war isn't entertainment," reports the Washington Post.
In a letter to NBC entertainment chariman Bob Greenblatt, producer Mark Burnett and General Wesley Clark, the host of the series, the Laureates, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, write, "This program pays homage to no one anywhere and continues and expands on an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence."
They continue that the show is a "massive disservice to those who live and die in armed conflict and suffer its consequences long after the guns of war fall silent."

If "Survivor" reality impresario Mark Burnett and "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf joined forces, what show would they produce? Perhaps a wilderness adventure show featuring New York detectives?
Close, but not quite.
On Monday, Aug. 13, NBC premieres "Stars Earn Stripes," which is indeed an action-packed adventure competition that takes place mostly in the outdoors -- and has a police officer -- but it's really a love letter to the first responders and the American military, including Army Green Berets and Navy SEALs.
It pairs celebrities -- skier Picabo Street, WWE Diva Eve Torres, actor Dean Cain, boxer and fitness expert Laila Ali, trainer Dolvett Quince, singer Nick Lachey, NFL veteran and actor Terry Crews, and four-time Iron Dog snowmobile race champion Todd Palin -- with retired and current military and first responders.
