Fans of Stephen King and Mike Flanagan are having a blast. With The Life of Chuck set to premiere in theaters on June 6, the duo's new project has received an exciting update.

Among other projects, Flanagan has also taken on a new adaptation of Carrie for Prime Video. The 1974 iconic novel has been adapted before, once in 1974, and again in 2002 and 2013. Now, Deadline confirmed Summer Howell will be taking the titular role, as previously rumored, and that several returning Flanaverse actors will be a part of the cast.

Matthew Lillard, who stars in The Life of Chuck, will reunite with the filmmaker in the upcoming Carrie. His role as Principal Grayle was previously revealed. Frequent Flanagan collaborator Samantha Sloyan has also joined the upcoming adaptation as Carrie's mom.

I love a cinematic diamond in the rough. It’s such a rush to discover a well-made film that hasn’t found the audience it deserves. Earlier this week, it was reported that relative newcomer Summer H. Howell was close to signing a deal to star in the series as its title character, Carrie White. While Howell's acting credits are sparse, she has appeared in several horror films, notably 2013's Cult of Chucky and 2020's Hunter Hunter. Deadline also reports that Siena Agudong is also being eyed to play Carrie's nemesis, Sue Snell. Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi has confirmed that although the highly anticipated continuation of his series will return to Weekly Shonen Jump, new chapters will not be released on a weekly basis.

Togashi provided another of his regular new manga updates via his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing that he had completed the character inking for Chapter 420. The series is currently on Chapter 400, which was released nearly two years ago in December 2022. His latest post reads, "Characters have been included in up to 20 unpublished chapters. Having kept my involvement in background work to the bare minimum, I've been constantly inking the characters." He added that his goal was to completely ink 10 more chapters by the end of the year, but not before confirming, "The pace of publication is left to the discretion of the editorial department."

Fresh off the success of last weekend’s “Longlegs,” Neon announced Tuesday that it has acquired worldwide rights to the “Shelby Oaks,” which was written and directed by filmmaker and YouTube creator Chris Stuckmann. It marks Stuckmann’s feature directorial debut. The film is described as a documentary-found footage crossover. It will have its world premiere at Fantasia Festival on Saturday. Neon will release the film theatrically in the U.S. and handle international sales.

Last year’s Fantasia featured the Canadian premiere of what’s probably the best horror movie of the last year or so – Late Night With The Devil, and this year’s program seems certain to be another winner, with Fantasia announcing the first wave of titles today.

The Fantasia International Film Festival will be celebrating its 28th edition with another densely packed slate of events and programming running from July 18 through August 4, 2024, returning yet again at the Concordia Hall and J.A. de Sève cinemas, with additional screens and events at Montreal’s Cinémathèque québécoise and Cinéma du Musée.

The festival’s full lineup will be announced on July 3, but in the meantime, Fantasia 2024 has revealed a select first wave of premiere titles. With premieres for Chuck Russell’s Witchboard remake, the Mike Flanagan-presented found footage Shelby Oaks, the latest from La Llorona filmmaker Jayro Bustamante and more, Fantasia’s shaping up to have another can’t miss slate of films.

Yesterday, we shared an interview in which Robert Englund confirmed that his days of playing Freddy Krueger are over – and for his replacement in the role, Englund suggested an actor whose name comes up frequently when people fan cast a new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie: Kevin Bacon. Bacon seems open to the idea, but there’s another actor out there who’s eager to take his turn wearing the glove and fedora. In response to the interview with Englund, Devon Sawa sent out a tweet saying, “I’d love to follow in his footsteps and play Freddie.” Forgive him for misspelling the name. It’s a common mistake.

Sawa is a genre regular whose credits include Final Destination, Idle Hands, Hunter Hunter, Black Friday, The Fanatic, and the Chucky TV series – where he played three different characters over the course of two seasons.

Final Destination star Devon Sawa has put himself forward as the next iteration of horror movie monster Freddy Krueger following actor Robert Englund’s recent declaration that he will not reprise the role again. Taking to social media, Sawa stated that he would "love to follow in his footsteps and play [Freddy]," whenever Warner Bros. Pictures decides to reawaken the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

Sawa is of course no stranger to the world of horror. The actor is well-known for leading the first installment in another iconic series, Final Destination, and more recently has played a recurring role in the resurrection of Chucky. And that’s without mentioning the likes of Idle Hands, Black Friday, Hunter Hunter, The Exorcism of Molly Hartley and, of course, Casper. But, how do Freddy Krueger...

Horror stalwart Devon Sawa (“Chucky,” Final Destination, Idle Hands) delivered a memorable turn in 2020’s survival horror Hunter Hunter. He’s set to return to the wilderness once more with Consumed, the latest horror movie by The Butcher Brothers.

THR reports that Sawa will play a “wild madman” the central married couple will encounter on a camping trip. Of course, it’s not the madman that’s the most significant threat; there’s something else in the woods with them.

Courtney Halverson (Unfriended, St. Agatha) and Mark Fariglietti (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) costar with Sawa as “Jay and Beth, a married couple taking a celebratory camping trip a year after Beth’s cancer remission, who find themselves trapped between a wild madman (Sawa) and a skin stealing monster.”

When news broke that Isabelle Fuhrman would be reprising her role as Esther in a surprise prequel to the 2009 film Orphan, many were skeptical that the now 23 year old actress would be able to convincingly play a young child. Canvas Media Studios and MarVista Entertainment have hammered out a six-film slate deal that will be focused on identifying diverse, first-time and up-and-coming writers and directors.

The agreement will involve fully financed completed titles with a pre-buy distribution commitment from MarVista Entertainment, which will also oversee global distribution for all films produced under the partnership.

Canvas, a​ venture capital-backed​ ​content​ ​company, is led by David Tochterman, an industry vet with stints at Overbrook Entertainment and the Carsey-Werner Company. MarVista Entertainment, a division of Fox Entertainment, averages 80 new movies per year.

MarVista’s recent projects include the Amazon Prime Video release “Christmas Is Canceled” starring Hayley Orrantia, Dermot Mulroney and Janel Parrish; “Stay Awake,” with Chrissy Metz; and the IFC release “Hunter Hunter,” toplined by Devon Sawa, Nick Stahl and Camille Sullivan.

Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment, a prolific producer and distributor of original movies for traditional and streaming networks worldwide, is continuing its expansion into Latin America, signing a major development and production deal with TelevisaUnivision.

Under the pact, MarVista, founded by Fernando Szew and Michael Jacobs, will produce ten original Spanish-language films featuring creative and on-screen talent from Latin America across family, comedy, romance, and holiday genres that will stream exclusively on ViX+, TelevisaUnivision’s streaming platform, which is scheduled to launch in the second half of the year. TelevisaUnivision will hold worldwide streaming distribution rights to all ten films under the deal, and MarVista will oversee global distribution outside of streaming and second windows for all platforms.

This marks the first major production commitment to MarVista following the indie studio’s December acquisition by Fox Entertainment.

5’7 Films inks with The Gersh Agency...

Exclusive: Sophie von Haselberg (Halston), Colton Haynes (Arrow), Javier Muñoz (Broadway’s Hamilton), Jill Kargman (Odd Mom Out) and Marisa Ryan (Wet Hot American Summer) have signed on to star in Love…Reconsidered, an indie comedy, which is currently in production in New York.

The film directed by Full Frontal with Samantha Bee‘s managing digital producer Carol Hartsell centers on Ruby (Von Haselberg), a 30-year-old New Yorker whose life is suddenly transplanted to the Hamptons after a chance meeting with a wealthy consignment store owner.
