The actress has been confirmed for a starring role in Anders Morgenthaler's English-language movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She will also appear in the upcoming Grudge Match with Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro and One Square Mile.
Shooting on Petit recently began in Hamburg.

Last month, Warner Bros. has set comedian Kevin Hart to play the sure-to-be loud-mouthed fight promoter who gets two retired brawlers played by Robert de Niro and Sylvester Stallone, back in the ring.
Word comes from Variety that Oscar-winner Kim Basinger has landed the female lead in the studio comedy revolving around two retired boxers, which Peter Segal (Get Smart) is directing from a script by Tim Kelleher that was most recently rewritten by Entourage creator Doug Ellin.
Basinger will play the woman caught in the middle of the rivalry.
In the ’80s and early ’90s, Basinger often took roles in comedies so this could mark a return to form for her. Up until then, she is currently filming Third Person for director Paul Haggis and will next be seen in the indie drama One Square Mile opposite Richard Jenkins.
Warner Bros. has given the green light on a Segal-directed boxing flick.

I was going to kick off by saying “It’s been some time since Kim Basinger really graced our screens” — but that’s technically not true. While she hasn’t made an onscreen appearance in about two years — itself not such a long time — it was in the relatively successful Charlie St. Cloud, and that only came a few years after parts in The Informers, The Burning Plain, and The Sentinel. Even if you didn’t see those, there’s a fair chance you’ve heard of them. Shouldn’t that count for something?
And although I can’t say if One Square Mile might some kind of reintroduction into mainstream cinema, the actual film doesn’t sound half-bad. Richard Jenkins was, back in April, signed to lead the film, a drama about the important lessons an older man instills into a young boy (Kelly Blatz). (That role was originally set for Cameron Bright,...

• Shia Labeouf — apparently undeterred by the onslaught of “Shia Labuff” jokes in the wake of his full-frontal appearance in a recent Sigur Ros music video — is in talks for an unspecified role in director Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac. As the title implies, the film follows the erotic adventures of a woman (Charlotte Gainsbourg) from her first sexual experience through age 50, with von Trier shooting both explicit and not-as-explicit versions of the film. Stellan Skarsgard will play the woman’s husband, but likely not her only sexual partner, because that would be a bit of a let down, frankly. [THR]

As much as I love J.J. Abrams' dogged determination to preserve mystery in the moviegoing experience, I have to admit that sometimes it can be a little bit frustrating from the point of view of someone who runs a movie blog. Sure, that's kind of the point, but come on, throw us a bone and give us something to discuss here! This week we've learned of yet another secretive project that he will be setting up under his Bad Robot banner and as per usual they have released very little information about it. Abrams will be producing but probably not directing, and no one else is attached as of yet. Hit the jump to find out the rest of what we know about this mysterious flick. According to Variety, Paramount has pre-emptively acquired an "untitled, low budget spec script" from screenwriters Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. Although Paramount had no comment on the acquisition,...

The Fringe is a place where non-horror genre films can get some play on Shock. These films might be sci-fi, fantasy or action - and certainly contain some horror elements - but will likely be light on scares, or, straight-up "horror." Still, they might be of interest to you.
While a remake to John Woo's The Killer has been rumored for some time now, nothing has come to fruition. Today, however, it looks like that redo is one step closer to reality.

He can currently be seen scaring things up for Joss Whedon’s Cabin In The Woods, but Richard Jenkins plans to be a little nicer to the human race for his next trick. He’s signed on to star as a reclusive track coach in One Square Mile. The film finds Cameron Bright as a young man from the wrong side of the tracks who fears his life may forever be mired in poverty. But a spark of hope comes in the shape of his running talent, and he gets some encouragement and training when he somehow persuades a grouchy trainer (Jenkins) to help him out. Sounds a bit like Finding Forrester meets Chariots Of Fire, which we guess could be a good thing - especially with Jenkins aboard.Charles-Olivier Michaud is the director in charge of this one, which has been written by Josh Campbell and Jeff Van Wie.

Casting Call: Toni Collette and Dev Patel Join Defiant; Richard Jenkins Signs on for One Square Mile
We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share this afternoon. First up, Toni Collette and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) have joined the cast of the thriller Defiant. The film is based on the true story of a double honor killing in India. Muslim men are allowed to marry non-Muslim women per Islamic law (in order to “take over the reproductive capabilities of the enemy), but Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men. In May of 2011, two Muslim women allegedly killed their daughters because they had eloped and married migrant Bihari Hindu laborers. Deadline reports that Patel will play Hari, “a young man who is, along with his girlfriend, trying to escape vengeful parents who want to kill the lovers to stop them marrying.” Colette will play a journalist covering the story who is drawn into danger. Bill Bennett is set to direct, and the project will...

Here we may have a film where I use the star to generate some interest. THR informs us that Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods, Step Brothers) will be starring with Cameron Bright (Twilight, Running Scared) in One Square Mile, an indie drama from French-Canadian helmer Charles-Olivier Michaud.
