They absolutely do not belong on TV with chip and his stupid antics and embarrassing comments. This was a big mistake please get rid if them and bring back DIY much more educational and helpful. Same thing with her cooking show, she cannot cook any better than mother's across this nation. Why they think they are that interesting to watch is beyond me. For fixing up and okder home Restoration is my choice, for building and refurbishing a home Restoring Galveston is way better than these two clients chip and Joanna go home and make more babies and stay off tv leave that to professionals or better cooks and carpenters that really know what they are doing and make more sense, PLEASE!!!
If they edited Chip out I might have enjoyed this show more. He was childish, not funny and his passive aggressive comments about Joanna were unseemly. I also didn't see Chip contribute much to the remodel. Granted, he's always been goofy but now he is just annoying. She is a good sport despite his immaturity but I no longer see any chemistry and at times it seemed she was just tolerating him. I do think Joanna is very talented - obviously the brains in this endeavor - and I enjoyed seeing how the castle was redecorated. There are some obvious plugs for their businesses (paint, stocking the stores) but they weren't overdone. I enjoyed it for the decorating/makeover but next time leave Chip at home.
I knew this show; "Fixer Upper: The Castle" was going to be good, but now that I finished watching it..... I have to say it was amazing! The transformation was incredible to see unfold. Chip and Joanna are geniuses when it comes to their craft. I've been watching their shows for many many years and you can see how much they have grown, not only with their talent, but with their love for family. I was hooked when I first heard Joanna say to the homeowners, "Welcome Home". I truly felt the warmth and comfort of these two words. I can't wait for their next project.......the sky's the limit for these two.
Original castle was so well lit up. The renovated one looked stunning from outside but hell darker on the inside. Dark walls, dark floors, just killed the space. Basement for any activity, was not a very good idea. Active living and/or working are not recommended below the ground. Low oxygen affects the mind and energy negatively. Very small windows and just walls all around was very discomforting. Could have been left as a tool room or store room. Card room was very dark, very disturbing. And guest room in basement was a literal sin! How can one think of having a guest stay in basement? I mean why anyone should be in basement? Overall I cannot even imagine living in there. I find the space depressing and energy dampening due to all the dark shades. Episodes were made okay. Could have been better.
I have to say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the finished Castle project. Trying to figure out why, the word that comes to mind is "disjointed". As a whole, the rooms just didn't "flow". I'd say that I didn't care for about half of the styling choices that were made.
The kitchen is gorgeous but it just doesn't feel as though it fits in and while I get the concept of a "butlers pantry", it's more like two separate side-by-side kitchens, each with an entirely different feel to them.
The master bedroom is completely underwhelming and the master bathroom unimaginative. The drawing room is a huge disappointment. Unattractive furnishings, lighting and paint color. And the card room? I wouldn't want to spend any time in it at all. So very dark and depressing. And that carpet. Ugh. The "boys" bedroom is another miss color and style wise, and why was the drawing of the architect hung in that room? Totally out of place.
I love about 95% of their home renovation projects but the end result of The Castle project was somewhat disappointing. If I were to buy it, I'd have to have some of the rooms re-done. I'm not sure what went wrong. Maybe Joanna was trying too hard to get it right and ignored her usually spot-on instincts?
