Thrilker action is what i wanted and with Devil's Peak delivered. The story line is compeling and very engaging to the mind. I loved the range of the characters and the acting was top notch. The authencity of the story to South Africa was easy to connect to. I always able to binge this in one day worth the watch. Benny drove the story very well. Thrillers have a tendency for me though to question. How complicit are we to our suffering? Especially with all the rules meant to protect everyone but seems to only apply to those who are rich. Im glad it still left me with some unanswered questions. Is the a season 2.
I knew nothing about this series except that it was set in South Africa and that was enough to pique my interest. It was such an interesting plot and the characters. Especially Bennie and Thobela, were complex and exceedingly human. We see the dichotomy between the rich South Africans and the poor living in the slums. And we see how difficult it is for the police to catch and prosecute the criminals. I was fascinated to see how integrated the police force seems to be now this many years after apartheid. I also thought the sound track was well-done. Don't let the featured review turn you off this series. It is far better than s/he says.
Deon Meyer does not sell his novels like the likes of Grisham, Deaver, Clancy, Ludlum or any best sellers out there..
Yet they make adaptations to his books like they'd engage audiences, this persistent ploy hasn't merited even one nomination from the Emmys nor BAFTA. They made two tv series, Trackers and Devil's Peak are nothing special. On the other hand, a spin-off from a Devil's Peak character was written and made into a film. Night of the hunter is the Netflix made south african film, basically Meyer loved his assegai killer so much he devoted a novel.
Why always casting Sisanda Henna?
He's in all three productions. In Trackers he's a antagonist named Nkunzi. In Night of the Hunter he's a corrupt politician. In this series, devil's peak he is the assegai hunter himself.
It's either the screenwriters are not good or basically the books aren't great...
