The player may swim (on or off a horse), jump while riding a horse, and climb ladders (off a horse).
The morale bar has been removed from the visual interface.
Support animals are attainable to assist the player in battle. Some follow and battle alongside the player (tiger, wolf, panda, and falcon) while others may be ridden (horses, elephant, and bear).
New playable characters in this installment include Guan Suo (third son of Guan Yu), Liu Shan (oldest son of Liu Bei), Ma Dai (cousin of Ma Chao), Bao Sanniang (wife of Guan Suo), Lian Shi (wife of Sun Quan), Ding Feng (Wu officer), Xiahou Ba (second son of Xiahou Yuan), Sima Shi (oldest son of Sima Yi), Sima Zhao (second son of Sima Yi), Wang Yuanji (wife of Sima Zhao), Deng Ai (Wei and Jin general), Guo Huai (Wei and Jin officer), Zhuge Dan (cousin of Zhuge Liang), Zhong Hui (Jin general), Jia Xu (Wei advisor), and Cai Wenji (Wei).
Pang De and Zuo Ci have not returned as playable characters in this installment due to their lack of story.
