Sudhir Mishra on ‘Fauda’ Indian Adaptation ‘Tanaav’: ‘I’m Not Looking for Controversy – I’m not Shying Away From it Either’

Veteran Indian filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s latest venture is “Tanaav,” the Indian adaptation of Israeli global hit “Fauda.” The series is transposed from Israel and Palestine to the troubled area that is Kashmir and tells the story of a Special Covert Ops Unit.

” ‘Fauda’ is about two countries, Israel and Palestine and it is about two religions. We didn’t want to do that. This is not about religion. This is not about Hindu versus Muslim. This is India versus, let’s say, terrorism or another kind of extreme ideology,” Mishra told Variety.

About the decision to set it in Kashmir, Mishra says that the series needed to be in a “disturbed zone” and that he’s been familiar with Kashmir for years and tried to move away from the cliched representation of the state and treated it in a “nuanced, interesting way.”

‘American Gigolo’s Sandrine Holt Signs With Silver Lining Entertainment

Exclusive: Actress Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) has signed with Silver Lining Entertainment for management.

Holt can currently be seen on Showtime’s drama series American Gigolo, based on the 1980 film of the same name written and directed by Paul Schrader.

Other recent credits on the television side include AMC’s recently wrapped Better Call Saul, Prime Video’s The Expanse, Showtime’s Emmy winner Homeland, USA Network’s Mr. Robot, CBS’s MacGyver, Crackle’s The Art of More, AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The actress was previously a series regular on the CBS drama Hostages and recurred heavily on such hit series as House of Cards, 24 and The L Word. Her film credits include Terminator Genisys, Automatik Entertainment’s Air and Cédric Klapisch’s Chinese Puzzle, which had her starring alongside Amélie‘s Audrey Tautou.

Israel’s Yes Studios, India’s Applause Entertainment Seal Partnership With ‘Fauda’ Indian Reimagining ‘Tanaav’ (Exclusive)

Hitmaking Israeli producer Yes Studios and Indian content producing giant Applause Entertainment are extending their existing agreement into a full-scale partnership.

Applause, the content studio of the Aditya Birla Group, has previously adapted Yes’s “Your Honor” for SonyLIV and “Tanaav,” the reimagining of Yes’s “Fauda” bows on SonyLIV on Nov. 11. Applause also has a relationship with Armoza Formats and has adapted its “Hostages,” “La Famiglia” as “Mind the Malhotras” and the upcoming “Honey Badgers.” Earlier this year, Armoza’s head of international sales Sharon Levi joined Yes Studios as managing director.

Keshet International, Banijay Asia Strike Format Adaptation Deal for India

Banijay Asia and Keshet International have struck a format adaptation deal for India.

Under the terms of the deal, Banijay Asia will option scripted formats from Keshet’s library and adapt them for the Indian audience.

Banijay Asia has adapted several international formats for India, both scripted and unscripted, including Keshet’s “Hatufim” as “P.O.W. – Bandi Yuddh Ke” and “The Baker and the Beauty.” Other local adaptations by Banijay include “Survivor,” “Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls,” “Call My Agent Bollywood,” and “The Voice.”
