It was announced soon after that Lauren Lavera – who played heroine Sienna in Terrifier 2 and the recently released Terrifier 3 – was joining Hounsou in the cast. Now, Deadline reveals that Alicia Witt (Longlegs), Gina Philips (Jeepers Creepers), Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers), Mia Healey (The Wilds), Michael Lombardi (The Deuce), David Call (Insidious: The Red Door), Victor Del Rio (Precognito), Cedric Benjamin (Luke Cage), Zac Jaffee (Hustlers), Renés Rivera (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Hari Bhaskar (First Shift), Kristina Krasniqi (Celebrity Ghost Stories), and rapper Jacob Lukas Anderson, a.k.a. The Monster: Terrifier sequel heroine Lauren Lavera is joining Djimon Hounsou in horror thriller
Image
A couple of days ago, we learned that Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place Part II and A Quiet Place: Day One) is set to star in The Monster, a horror thriller that Darren Lynn Bousman will be directing from a screenplay by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, the writers of Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane. Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have revealed that Lauren Lavera – who played heroine Sienna in Terrifier 2 and the recently released Terrifier 3 – is in talks to join Hounsou in the cast.

Details on the characters Hounsou and Lavera will be playing haven’t been revealed, but we do know that the story follows two millennials who make quick money by leasing incredible New York City apartments they don’t own to people who don’t know they are being scammed. The con works brilliantly until they run into an apartment owner with a dark...

The Monster: Djimon Hounsou, Darren Lynn Bousman team for horror thriller
Image
Back in July, Djimon Hounsou signed on to star in a shark thriller called Beneath the Storm alongside Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), with Tommy Wirkola (Violent Night) writing and directing for Sony Pictures and producers Adam McKay and Kevin Messick of HyperObject Industries. While we wait to hear more information about that project, Hounsou is already moving on to another interesting film, one called The Monster. Deadline reports that Darren Lynn Bousman will be directing the film from a screenplay by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, the writers of Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane.

The Monster is set to begin filming in Danbury, Connecticut in November. The story follows two millennials who make quick money by leasing incredible New York City apartments they don’t own to people who don’t know they are being scammed. Review: Tarot is a Monster Mash with Diminishing Returns
Image
If we're comparing failed Final Destination rehashes, Tarot is up there with the worst. Writers and directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg aim for PG-13 sleepover-branded chills in Tarot, but sell the entire experience abysmally short. Their story about a cursed tarot deck is ludicrously underwritten and dopey, discarding established in-universe rationale mere minutes after cement dries. It's a movie that sequences events like they're mistakenly out of order, with Cohen and Halberg treating the audience like they’ve never seen a horror movie before — or maybe they’re praying we haven’t

In the film, stereotypical college students rent the equivalent of Scrooge McDuck's mansion on Airbnb for one of their birthdays. When the last beer can pops open, partiers panic and search the premises for hidden alcohol, which leads them into a musty once-locked basement filled with astrological artifacts — one being a hand-drawn deck of tarot cards in an engraved container.

Hayride to Hell Trailer: Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder Battle It Out for the Family Farm
Image
Hayride to Hell is a horror movie led by Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder, following a farmer seeking revenge on corrupt locals. The film was shot at an actual family farm and profits will support the farm's preservation. Moseley and Hodder are well-known in the horror genre, with notable roles in iconic films and upcoming projects.

Farmer Sam is doing everything in his power to save the family farm. While that may not sound like the premise for a horror move, that's exactly what Hayride to Hell is. Lead by horror legends Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre II) and Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees in multiple Friday the 13th franchise projects), the film follows the story of a farmer who refuses to sell the farm that has been in his family for two centuries. As the trailer teases, Farmer Sam has a plan, and he won't go out without a fight.

How Satanic Panic and Occult Beliefs Shaped Darren Lynn Bousman Films Like Death of Me [Exclusive]
Image
Writer and director Darren Lynn Bousman was the guest on a recent episode of the No-Prize From God podcast, which features "conversations with creative people about belief, unbelief, and everything between." During the lengthy, in-depth discussion, the Saw franchise filmmaker talked about his fascination with the occult and how the evolution of his personal beliefs informs his filmography, which includes the horror-meets-The-Hangover film Death of Me and next year's Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Bousman spoke about growing up in Kansas; urban legends; "Satanic panic"; why voodoo was excised from the Death of Me script; strange on-set occurrences during the making of 2011's 11-11-11; the genesis of 2012's The Devil's Carnival; and what Death of Me shares in common with The Wicker Man. A portion of that conversation is excerpted below, edited for clarity and length. https://linktr.ee/noprizefromgod|Listen to the entire No-Prize From God podcast episode here.

Spiral Director Explains the Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson Relationship to Jigsaw in Book of Saw [Exclusive]
Image
Darren Lynn Bousman often exorcises his demons via his movies. The Saw II, III, and IV director explored his fascination with the power of belief in films like The Devil's Carnival and this month's horror thriller Death of Me, in theaters, On Demand and Digital October 2nd. And while the forthcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw doesn't add anything supernatural, the material is still close to the filmmaker's heart. As he explained in a recent interview, the franchise as a whole deals with belief. And the characters played by Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson in the ninth Saw-related film hold a special meaning for him, too.

The Kansas-born writer/director burst onto the horror scene with a well-received screenplay the Saw producers felt would work as a sequel to the original surprise hit. Saw II did so well, they recruited Bousman to direct the third and fourth...

Death of Me Trailer Snares Maggie Q & Luke Hemsworth in a Web of Black Magic and Murder
Image
Saban Films has released the trailer for Death of Me. This new horror/thriller is led by Maggie Q and Luke Hemsworth and comes from director Darren Lynn Bousman, director of four installments in the Saw franchise. In this case, Bousman is getting inventive and playing with the genre a bit, as we can see from the trailer.

The trailer opens with a couple who clearly had a wild night and are attempting to put together what happened. They then discover a video that was taken, which sheds some light on the previous night's events. Though it carries with it some dark and twisted implications. To say the very least of it, the violence depicted in this video, which raises a lot of questions, puts a strain on their relationship. More details begin to surface and things get progressively trippy. It looks to be an inventive, dark and twist-filled genre tale.

Saw Reboot Teams Samuel L. Jackson & Chris Rock to Fight Jigsaw
Darren Lynn Bousman at an event for Abattoir (2016)
It was just a week or so ago now that we passed along the news that Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Devil's Carnival director Darren Lynn Bousman kicked off principal photography on Chris Rock mysterious new reboot of the semi-classic splatter movie series, Saw. And while it has been speculated for a while now that Rock would also be starring in this new version, today we have word that not only has Rock's casting been confirmed but none other than Nick Fury himself Aka Samuel L. Jackson will be starring in the new Saw movie as well!

Wait, so Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame star Samuel L. Jackson is going to be in a Saw movie? Sure as hell looks like it, ladies and gentlemen. I mean sure, this could be some kind of elaborate prank, but I don't think so at this point in time. That said,...

Saw 2 Director Wants a True Leprechaun Reboot with Warwick Davis
Darren Lynn Bousman at an event for Abattoir (2016)
This weekend marked another St. Patrick's Day, and to celebrate, writer-director Darren Lynn Bousman took to Twitter to let us all know that he still wants Lionsgate to hand him the keys to a semi-classic horror franchise: Leprechaun. Yeah, true story.

Evidently, Darren Lynn Bousman wants to bring back original franchise star Warwick Davis and send the little green guy back in time to the Colorado Gold Rush. Which sounds pretty awesome. Specifically, Bousman says this.

"It's that time of year again where I remind my good friends at @Lionsgate that I still want to reboot the Leprechaun movie (Again)... Lep gets in a time machine and goes back to the Colorado Gold Rush. You guys have my number, I'll be sitting by the phone."

Screenwriter Scott Milam, who worked with Bousman on his remake of Mother's Day, then tweeted this.

"We pitched Lionsgate, remember? I wanted to cast William Shatner...

The 27 Club Explores a Dark Cultural Myth this April 23rd
A few details have emerged for Patrick Fogarty's The 27 Club. This title, from Cleopatra Entertainment, looks at a strange, cultural myth. Why have so many celebrities died at 27? Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morris and many more have all dropped dead (usually due to excess) at this pivotal age. The film even has a guest appearance, from the grave, of Amy Winehouse. And, The 27 Club stars: Maddisyn Carter (The Devil's Carnival), Victoria De Mare (Killjoy Goes to Hell), Todd Rundgren and John Hennigan plays Jim Morrison. All of these actors come together in one of this year's more bizarre films. A preview of the film's upcoming launch is hosted here. The official synopsis talks of a singer-songwriter and a journalism student. Both characters are exploring the dark truth behind "The 27 Club." Their journey leads them into a world they may not be able to escape.

Full UK Trailer for Bousman's Nunsploitation Horror Film 'St. Agatha'
"There is no wrong or right in this place. You're just choosing not to see it." Signature Entertainment in the UK has debuted the official UK trailer for an indie horror thriller titled St. Agatha, the latest from horror director Darren Lynn Bousman. This new "twisted horror thriller" is said to push the boundaries of the "nunsploitation" genre, in a story set at a convent in Georgia. A pregnant young woman named Mary ends up there, seeking shelter only to be met with an unsettling and horrendous evil waiting on the other side. St. Agatha stars Sabrina Kern, Carolyn Hennesy, Courtney Halverson, Trin Miller, Lindsay Seim, Hannah Fierman and Seth Michaels. The footage from this trailer does look freaky, especially near the end when it goes all out crazy. Scary stuff. Here's the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Darren Lynn Bousman's St. Agatha, direct from YouTube: Set in the...

Trailer for Darren Bousman's New Haunted House Horror Thriller Abattoir
"The guy's a ghost collecting ghosts."

Horror movie director Darren Bousman has a new haunted house thriller coming out called Abattoir. I'm a sucker for horror flicks, and this looks like it could be really fun. It's got an interesting concept, and I want to see how the story plays out. As you'll see in the trailer, it's managed to get some solidly good reviews from horror fan sites.

Real estate reporter Julia Talben’s (Jessica Lowndes) life is turned upside down when her family is brutally murdered. Julia quickly realizes there is more to this story when she returns to the crime scene to find the murder room deconstructed and physically removed from her sister’s home. This ignites an investigation that leads her and ex-lover Detective Declan Grady (Joe Anderson) to the town of New English, where they meet town spinster Allie (Lin Shaye) along with the enigmatic...

Fantasia 2016: Abattoir is well-crafted but ultimately underwhelming
Director Darren Lynn Bousman is known for thinking outside the box. After directing the first three Saw sequels, he directed a cult favorite rock opera about re-possessing body parts whose recipients have defaulted on payments (Repo! The Genetic Opera). Soon after that, he developed and toured his cinematic circus The Devil's Carnival, which included live performances at many screenings.

Bousman's latest offering, Abattoir, may not be as ambitious as those two, but it does seek to turn the standard haunted house theme on its head by asking the question, 'Can you build a haunted house?'

Jessica Lowndes (best known for the 90210 reboot/sequel TV series) plays Julia Talben, a newspaper real-estate reporter whose sister and her family are brutally m [Continued ...]...

David Hasselhoff Is Returning in the 'Baywatch' Movie
Dwayne Johnson
Ever since Baywatch started moving forward with star Dwayne Johnson, there were rumors that roles had been written for the two stars of the original TV series, David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. Most assumed that Pamela Anderson most likely won't be back, after revealing in August that "no one appreciates the remakes," but we never heard one way or another if David Hasselhoff will return. Last night, Dwayne Johnson shared a video on his Instagram page, revealing that David Hasselhoff is in fact coming aboard. Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say on his social media page, while teasing some interesting plot details.

"'I Was Born Ready!' Pleasure to officially welcome the original #Baywatch gangsta himself David Hasselhoff to our movie! #Baywatch is the most successful TV show of all time and from the day we announced we were turning it into a movie, "The Hoff" has been our greatest supporter.

Event Report: Alleluia! The Devil’S Carnival
The night seems dead. Driving down 38th Street at a quarter to ten on a Sunday night, most of the houses are dark. A few pulse with the televised glow of Sunday Night Football or perhaps Fear The Walking Dead. For the most part, though, the Minneapolis neighborhood has seemingly gone to sleep. But up ahead at 42nd Avenue, a bright beacon of light splashes across the street. The Riverview Theater’s marquee juts out to greet passersby, and turning the corner proves that the night is in fact alive with saints, sinners, and everyone in between. Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival has come to town.

A horror comedy musical from director Darren Lynn Bousman and writer/actor Terrance Zdunich, Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival has headed north from its recent stint in Chicago to sink its claws in Minneapolis for the evening. It’s been over three years since Satan set...

Exclusive: Darren Lynn Bousman & Terrance Zdunich Talk Alleluia! The Devil’S Carnival
It's war between heaven and hell in Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival, making its world premiere tonight at Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre ahead of its upcoming Us tour. We recently caught up with director Darren Lynn Bousman and writer/actor Terrance Zdunich (who plays Lucifer) to talk about the highly anticipated musical film follow-up to 2012's The Devil's Carnival.

On the decision to have heaven as the setting of the sequel:

Darren Lynn Bousman: We always knew that Devil’s Carnival was about more than just the carnival. When we did part one, heaven is only glimpsed at for a few seconds. And we knew that the next one that we did, we had to give heaven the same amount of time we gave hell.

After Devil’s Carnival 1 was completed, Terrance and I started talking about what would heaven look like and what could we do to make the audience excited to see heaven.
