In the span of just two seasons, the Solo Levelinganime has become one of the most popular and entertaining action series out there, and that invites a lot of comparisons with other action anime. The fandom can point to a few action that are still better, such as the members of the original shonen "big three" and the likes of Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen, but Solo Leveling also has many other action anime beat.
Anyone who's caught up on Solo Leveling and wants more action has probably already seen the very best action anime too, so fans can keep themselves busy with action anime that are almost as good. These action anime titles are roughly on par with Solo Leveling, even if they don't have the same hype, and they have plenty to offer — whether or not they match Solo Leveling's monster hunter vibes.

Even though there is plenty of action and adventure to be found in the Solo Leveling anime, its anime world is remarkably safe. The danger is largely confined to the dungeons, with skilled hunters of all ranks knowing what they're getting themselves into before they venture inside. It's up to those hunters to make sure the monsters in the dungeons don't spill out into the real world, and they appear quite successful at that.
The boundary between dungeon monsters and everyday life is clearly defined so far in the Solo Leveling anime, so for civilians like Jinwoo's sister Jinah, the world is fairly safe for going to school and the like. So, anime fans can point to other anime worlds that are much more dangerous than Jinwoo's own, where the boundary between danger and innocent civilian life is not guarded by hunters. It’s one of those subtle details that sets Mha apart from most of the other Shonen series. The fact that the creators took the time to include such a small yet significant change and maintained it throughout speaks volumes about their passion for this project.

The following contains spoilers for various manga's endings. Proceed with caution.
Last January, Yoshifumi Totsuka's mangaUndead Unluck released its final chapter after being published by Shōnen Jump for five years. Avoiding manga spoilers, "Chapter 239: Deadluck" will satisfy fans, even if they know they'll miss Fuuko Izumo and Andy. To most people, this may not seem like a big deal, since every manga eventually ends. Undead Unluck's anime just started, meaning fans still have a lot of time to spend with their favorite unlucky and undying heroes.
However, Undead Unluck's recent conclusion is a lot more significant than even the most dedicated manga reader may realize. Undead Unluck concluded just a week after another Shōnen Jump title — Hitsuji Gondaira's Mission: Yozakura Family — ended after six years of publication. These titles ended so quickly after two of Shōnen Jump's biggest hits finished their stories in the same year. Undead Unluck...

The anime/manga industry has come a long way, and it’s still continuing to deliver some of the most peak fiction you can ever watch in any media. But despite its success over the past decades, one major issue has remained the same: it lacks diversity when it comes to character skin tones!
For decades now, we have seen the same familiar pattern: the light-skinned, fair-haired protagonist taking center stage, and if there’s any darker-skinned character they are just shoved in the background. But now, the time is about to change.

Undead Unluck is bringing a fresh twist with a brand-new novel. Shueisha has announced that Hiteishatachi no Aoharu na Kōkō Seikatsu (The Youthful High School Life of the Negators) will be released on April 4. This marks the third novel for the series, following the previous ones from 2022 and 2023.
This time, the story puts Fuuko in the middle of a busy high school festival. While she enjoys her school life, things take an unexpected turn when the chaos starts unfolding.
Yoshifumi Tozuka originally introduced Undead Unluck as a one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump back in January 2019. A year later, the series became a full serialization in the same magazine.
Viz Media started publishing it digitally in 2020, with printed editions following in 2021. Readers can also find it on Shueisha’s Manga Plus platform. After four years, the manga officially ended on January 27, wrapping up its run in Shonen Jump.

Several official manga translators of some of the most popular Shonen Jump titles have opened up about the unfair criticism and harassment they have witnessed over the years, as well as spoken about some of the issues plaguing the manga and translation industry at large.
Gizmodo interviewed several manga translators about the role's challenges, misconceptions and requirements, soliciting comments from those working on some of the biggest titles, including One Piece, Spy x Family and Undead Unluck. One of the biggest misconceptions was the pervasive idea that one translator, be it for anime, games or manga, is responsible for all decisions, some of which prove controversial or betray expectations. "Fans think it’s just like one shadowy person pulling the strings and making sure they don’t have a good time," David Evelyn said.

One of the greatest anime and manga series of all time, Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama, is making a comeback with a special film that will focus on the final two episodes of the series. Throughout its run from March 5, 2018 to September 30, 2024, Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen climbed the ranks to become the top manga series in the shonen genre. JJk's week-to-week popularity exceeded even longtime staples like One Piece and Boruto, solidifying its place as manga royalty. Jujutsu Kaisen ended with a solid argument for being one of the greatest manga of all time, but its ending also left an empty space for fans who followed the series week to week. Luckily, there are plenty of dark, bloody action and unforgettable MCs to follow among Jjk's contemporaries.

While the world of anime features plenty of outstanding protagonists with sharp writing and personal depth, other anime protagonists don't go the distance. Some of the worst anime protagonists either have poor writing and ended up unlikable, or they were simply written to be generic self-inserts who have nothing interesting to say. At best, these iffy anime protagonists just go through the motions, and at worst, they say or do things to make the viewers actually dislike them or at least protest their actions.
Fortunately, some of these bad anime protagonists haven't finished their stories yet, so there is time for a course correction and make them more compelling in future seasons, should the anime studios see fit. In other cases, the story is done, and it's too late to actually change the weak protagonist. Anime fans, however, can still daydream about how to fix those characters and make them worth following in various adventures.

Official Blue Lock series artist Yusuke Nomura has taken to social media to hype up a brand-new manga coming to Weekly Shonen Jump, calling it and its own artist -- a well-known acquaintance of his -- 'scary.'
Embers is a new soccer-focused manga set to debut in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #10, written by Kei Kurumazagi and illustrated by Soutarou Nishii. The story will center on Haitani, a delinquent who is very good at fighting, and his introduction to soccer. Manga fans have been showing growing excitement for the title, as it is reminiscent of classics like Slam Dunk. Nomura, seeing some strong competition for Blue Lock in the newcomer, has joked that Nishii is "out to crush" Blue Lock. His good-natured support isn't all that surprising, given that Nishii was originally a staff member of Blue Lock's manga team and was responsible for many of the dynamic backgrounds.

The conclusion of Undead Unluck has brought an end to yet another short-lived good-quality manga. But the ending itself has managed to spark widespread debates online, with fans split over whether it delivered on the story’s premise.

It is not a new idea that the longest-running series and the ones with the best characters, settings, and narrative often do not manage to conclude things on a satisfactory note. The same has happened to Undead Unluck, which had a relatively short run of four to five years.
Now, what about a legendary series like One Piece, which has thousands of chapters and a massive cast, and all of the loose ends have to be tied up before the ending? Even more so, it all has to satisfy the extremely picky, extremely large fanbase.

In recent years, several manga endings have left their fan bases divided and unsatisfied. While it’s more based on subjective taste, the collective disappointment is noticeable in the reputation of these manga, particularly Jujutsu Kaisen, which has almost unanimously received negative criticism.
Attack on Titan’s ending, on the other hand, is the tougher nut to crack. With an already complex narrative, it’s hard to confirm the ending was terrible but it was definitely rushed and lacked any emotional depth.

Yoshifumi Tozuka’s recent manga Undead Unluck has officially reached its conclusion. The manga ran from 2020 and has completed five years this January, with Chapter 239 marking the finale in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #9.

As this beloved series ends, it leaves the fans with a single question – why is everything these days so short and compressed? Why has One Piece been left as the last surviving long-running manga of the Jump magazine’s golden era?
The end of Undead Unluck signifies a growing trend
The impressive legacy and trend of multi-decade manga seem to have ended, as no manga appears to have the potential nor the intention to hit even 500 chapters. The conclusion of Undead Unluck raises questions about whether Weekly Shonen Jump will ever see another 500+ chapters hit its pages.

English dubs have always been a subject for debate among the anime community, as bad voice acting can often affect the quality of a series (fans shudder at the mention of 4Kids' rendition of One Piece). And for those who prefer to watch their shows in English, an anime's watchability largely hinges on the performance of the cast chosen to translate the heart and soul of the story.
With better scripts, the rise of a new generation of talents, and veteran voice actors honing their skills, the stigma against dubbed anime is slowly disappearing. More efforts have been put into enhancing the quality of dubs, and thus, they have improved significantly in recent years. This past year has been one full of English dubs that not only contributed to expanding their anime's audience to the West but also rivaled the talents of the series' original cast.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Undead Unluck's final arc.Undead Unluck is inarguably one of the most popular Shōnen Jump manga to come out of the 2020s. While it’s never reached the same heights as other manga from this period like Sakamoto Days, Blue Box, and especially not Jujutsu Kaisen, the great character writing and creative writing have nonetheless made it a hit with fans and critics alike, especially after the anime helped it reach a wider audience.
Undead Unluck has been an excellent addition to the Shōnen Jump lineup for years, but its time in the magazine is slowly ending. Anyone who’s been caught up with the manga will know that it’s been heading toward its finale for quite some time now, but according to recent reports, Undead Unluck’s final chapter might be happening sooner than anyone could have predicted. Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi is a fairly new Shonen Jump manga, but it’s already made a big name for itself. While the fandom for Kagurabachi started ironically due to how dark and edgy the initial presentation was, the strong writing and action made it genuinely popular worldwide, and it’s already become one of the most popular Shonen Jump manga in recent years.
Kagurabachi is on its way to becoming the next big thing, and all it needs to complete that is an anime. A Kagurabachi anime is allegedly in development courtesy of CygamesPictures, and while it hasn’t been officially confirmed, everything that’s made Kagurabachi such an unexpected hit could easily translate into one of the biggest anime adaptations of the decade. There are a few reasons, in particular, why that’s something to look forward to, and as Kagurabachi’s story continues, those reasons are only going to get stronger.

It seems that in the anime world, at least one title that is both completely f**ked up and brilliant comes out every year. Last year it was “Undead Murder Farce”, before that there was “Chainsaw Man” and so on. This year’s “treat” is definitely “Undead Unluck” based on the manga by Yoshifumi Tozuka.

In the mid-2000s, few shonen series were as popular as the Big Three, a term created by the Western anime community to refer to One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. Some of the best Weekly Shonen Jump manga have prided themselves on their action, and that, of course, has led to them having great fights. Whether in stories that revolve around fighting from day one or stories that stumble into it at some point, whenever a Shonen Jump manga delves into a fight, its almost always a great experience from start to finish.

Undead Unluck first debuted in the Fall 2023 anime season. Based on author Yoshifumi Tozuka's ongoing shonen manga of the same name, Undead Unluck is a wacky action story about Negators, or people born with the supernatural ability to negate certain rules of the universe. Such people are in direct defiance of God's laws, making Negators His enemy. This includes the two protagonists, Fuuko Izumo and an immortal man nicknamed Andy.
Undead Unluck 's story is intensely personal at the start, with Fuuko wishing to end her own life due to her Unluck's negative effects on her life, while Andy wishes to use her powers so he can finally pass on after so many years alive. Before long, though, the plot, setting, and combat system of Undead Unluck are greatly expanded upon, leaving readers/viewers in store for a few surprises.
