Il pleut dans la maison

A solid movie

I accidentally bumped into this film (thanks hegyi puma) and I was pleasantly suprised.

The story wasn't much to talk about but I generally like films that rely on a strong atmosphere. The lake, the house, the bedrooms, all the places felt alive and imperfect. It really added to the sibling's drama, how their fight for survival, love, mistakes all get dulled down by the sweaty idyll of summer.

And talking about siblings I found the main duo's acting deeply genuine. I watched the film in my native language, so a lot has been lost, but still there was a level of honesty and vulnerability that carried through in their acting. They achieved something that rarely happens to me: I was brought back to those dull, deserted moments of growing up, the liminality and discomfort between childhood and adulthood.

There was no overacting, not a single moment of forced drama. Just held back emotions, and two kids who grew rigid in having to fend for themselves.
