Summer To The Rescue, Sort Of: 13 May-august Movies I Want To See
Summer is upon us. That is, summer as defined by movie studios which, in the 40 years since Star Wars was released, on May 25, 1977, have valiantly tried to stretch the boundaries of summer, content-wise, from the traditional June-July-August definition to include the other nine months of the year as well. (Mission pretty much accomplished, gentlemen. Thank you for your efforts.) As far as the actual summer movie season, it’s now more or less accepted that everything starts on the first weekend of May, and so it most certainly is this year. In case you hadn’t heard, a modest little picture called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 debuts this weekend at an art house near you, and everyone you know, including you, have probably already bought advance tickets to see it. Me, I’m less similarly inclined. Despite my raised expectations from reviews and audience reports, I found the...

Have Yourself A Movie Little Christmas: Krampus And More!
Despite its rampaging monster approach to the holiday season and the imposing, sort-of terrifying giant horned goat-man who provides its title, Krampus isn’t, at heart, an anti-Christmas picture-- it has at least one bloodshot eye pitched toward seasonal classic status. The movie’s story is centered on a family at war with itself—semi-sophisticated suburbanites Adam Scott and Toni Collette and their kids hosting a clan of boorish, right-wing Walmart-warrior relatives headed up by David Koechner and Alison Tolman— who finds itself besieged by the impish and deadly forces of Krampus, the flip-side of holiday cheer, Darth Vader to Santa’s Obi-wan. When the only child left in the family who still clings to his belief in Santa Claus has the last vestiges of Christmas spirit (here so defined as the will to make sacrifices for the good of others) derided out of him, he tears up his last...

Warwick Davis in Leprechaun (1992)
Shlocky charms: The crazy rise and 'terrifying' return of 'Leprechaun'
Warwick Davis in Leprechaun (1992)
How did a low budget horror movie about a diminutive Irish monster spawn five sequels, a new reboot, and the career of Jennifer Aniston? EW tracks the deranged history of the Leprechaun franchise.

British actor Warwick Davis says he has “specific” fans—well-wishers who want to discuss just one of the several fantasy franchises in which he has appeared. “People talk about Star Wars, people talk about Harry Potter,” he explains, “and people talk about Leprechaun.”

Alert readers will have noticed that one of these franchises is not like the others. While Star Wars and Harry Potter have raked in billions of dollars,...

Dead Rising Movie Will Be Helmed By Zach Lipovsky
A film adaptation of Capcom’s popular survival horror video game franchise Dead Rising is shambling steadily forward, with news that Legendary Pictures’ new Legendary Digital Media division has set Leprechaun: Origins director Zach Lipovsky to helm the film, which will exclusively debut on Crackle before hitting Blu-Ray, TV and VOD services.

It’s exciting to see Lipovsky score a gig like this – the only reality TV show I ever invested time in was On the Lot, a short-lived filmmaking competition on which he placed fifth. Back then, I recall Lipovsky delivering some immensely enjoyable short films (see if you can find “Danger Zone” or “Die Hardly Working” online). Since that show, he has found success in horror – prior to Leprechaun: Origins, Lipovsky directed Tasmanian Devils and co-produced Afflicted.

Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing the Dead Rising adaptation, which boasts a script by Mortal Kombat: Legacy producer Tim Carter.

Lipovsky To Helm "Dead Rising" Film
"Leprechaun: Origins" and "Tasmanian Devils" helmer Zach Lipovsky is set to direct the upcoming film based on Capcom's popular "Dead Rising" video game series for Legendary Pictures' new Legendary Digital Media label.

Tim Carter ("Mortal Kombat: Legacy") wrote the script for the 90-minute digital feature which will premiere exclusively on Crackle in the Us and will be distributed internationally in both episodic and feature format.

The game series followed a freelance photojournalist during a zombie outbreak. Trapped in a shopping mall, he can't get out but he has the entire mall at his disposal to craft weapons to fight off the flesh-hungry mob.

Upon completing its run on Crackle, "Dead Rising" will be released on Svod, DVD, VOD and TV. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce.

SyFy's 'Tasmanian Devils': Did you watch Danica McKellar and Apolo Ohno star in the gore-fest?
SyFy has done it again! In its grand tradition of monster B-movies, the network has enlisted "Wonder Years" child star Danica McKellar, as well as Olympian (and "Dancing with the Stars" alum) Apolo Ohno, for its latest film, "Tasmanian Devils."

In the movie, Ohno plays a daredevil base-jumper who tresspasses on a remote mountain in Tasmania -- and then plummets to his death in a bloody encounter with an angry nest of, you guessed it, Tasmanian devils. The base-jumpers have revived an ancient aboriginal curse, and McKellar's character is an expert on the creatures who, obviously, goes into battle.

Let's just say the movie is a far cry from Winnie Cooper.

"Tasmanian Devils" was the directorial debut of Zach Lipovsky, the special effects master who got to the finals on Stephen Spielberg's reality competition series "On The Lot."

Check out more of SyFy's B-movies in our gory gallery --...

Danica McKellar and Apolo Ohno kill monsters in Syfy's 'Tasmanian Devils'
Syfy has a new original movie on deck for this coming weekend -- "Tasmanian Devils," which has the tagline that the devils "go wild after a taste of human blood." So you know it's gonna be good stuff.

But what makes it even awesomer is that Danica McKellar (yes, Winnie Cooper) stars alongside Apolo Ohno (yes, Olympic speed skater) in the movie. No, that is not a joke. Toss in Kenneth Mitchell from "Jericho," Rekha Sharma from "Battlestar Galactica" and Roger R. Cross from "24" and we might just have appointment viewing on our hands.

"Tasmanian Devils" debuts Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on Syfy. Check out the trailer below to whet your appetite.

Today's Hot Trailer: Danica McKellar Battles Bloodthirsty Marsupials in SyFy's Tasmanian Devils
Oh yes, this movie exists.

For those that grew up watching The Wonder Years on TV, Danica McKellar may forever be known as Winnie Cooper, Fred Savage's fictional boyhood crush who set many a prepubescent heart on fire over the show's six seasons. Twenty years later, McKellar has been mostly out of the public eye, except for those that have read her four non-fiction books about math, or those Wonder Years fans who saw her lingerie photos from Stuff Magazine back in 2005.

Well, now McKellar is back in SyFy's latest cinematic venture, January 19th's Tasmanian Devils. Playing a no-nonsense park ranger who is tasked with fighting off monstrous Tasmanian devils who have found a taste for human blood. If watching Winnie Cooper setting fire to carnivorous marsupials while wielding a blowtorch like she was Sigourney Weaver in Alien doesn't sound ridiculously awesome enough for you yet, check out the...
