Simanaheen

10/10

A new age Bengali love story. Great music, performance, and entertainment.

I watched this movie in the theatre and cried. Then watched it again and cried again. I simply love this film and Rahsaan Islam's big eyes are to die for. What a performance!

As a lover of Bengali film..I love watching the old Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen films..it pains me that really nothing of value has come from the Bengali industry since those days. All we get now are frame for frame remakes of Tamil or Telegu films or snobby art house work.

What about good honest cinema? Something that has a Bengali soul but caters to the sensibilities of people? Simanaheen is just that type of film.

It's a realistic story, something that could happen to any of us, told in beautiful way. It's not just another Hindu-Muslim love story told in the same way - it's a Hindu-Muslim love story told by our new generation and how we experience it today. Gone are those old "Simas" of the old world and the new challenges of today's world. It isn't told with your typical Hindu and Muslim stereotypes. Those stereotype are broken down and done away with as the directors are not lazy filmmakers.

The biggest plus of the film is the music composed by Rusho Mahtab. Especially, Aakash Jemon - the picturization was as if it were directed by Yash Chopra himself! and Rahsaan Islam's performance was so honest and on point. I really felt his desperation in the second half of the film.

Relative to other Bengali films, Simanaheen gets a TEN on ten. It's great entertainment and definitely a multiple time watch.
