Swedish hardcore legends Refused kicked off their farewell tour on Thursday night (March 20th) at The Atlantis in Washington, D.C., playing a set that leaned heavy on their classic 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come.

In addition to launching Refused’s final tour, the gig marked the band’s first since frontman Dennis Lyxzén suffered a massive heart attack in June of last year. Thankfully, he has recovered and is back jumping around the stage delivering hardcore anthems.

Refused got things started with their first-ever live performance of “Poetry Written in Gasoline,” a rarity off 1998’s The New Noise Theology EP. They followed with the title track from The Shape of Punk to Come, one of nine songs they performed from the highly influential album.

I know what you’re thinking — yes, I agree the quality has tanked quite a bit, and there are many cringe moments. But despite the downsides, I’m an unapologetic Love Is Blind fanatic! Every season of Love Is Blind features multiple couples who get engaged in the pods, go on vacation, and make it down the aisle to say “I do” or “I don’t.” Some don’t make it to the wedding stage, some break up on vacation, and a few don’t even make it to the vacation. But every season, there are also couples who get engaged, but their stories aren’t followed.

This happens for a few reasons, some involving scandals. But mostly, it’s due to time constraints. If more than a set number of couples get engaged, there’s only so much footage that can be included in the limited number of episodes. This means producers have to choose, and some engagements end up on the cutting room floor. Aren’t the Love Is Blind love triangles fun? The best part about these situations where two men are in love with one woman or vice versa is that there’s always talk about it after the fact when the parties involved tell their respective sides of the story. Sometimes, they admit they were brokenhearted when the person chose someone else. Other times, it’s relief in that they dodged a bullet.

The most talked about love triangle in season 8 involves Madison, Mason and Alex as well as Madison, Mason, and Meg, effectively making it a sort of love square. Madison was torn between Mason and Alex, both seemingly very much leaning towards her, while Mason was conflicted on whether he felt more deeply for Madison or Meg. The situation ended in a way no one saw coming, and Madison has a lot to say in response to the “what ifs.

Valentine’s Day was the perfect time to release Netflix’s hit hot mess of a reality-dating show, Love is Blind.

It meant some of us hiding away in our homes to avoid the cold, and the freaking news could disappear into some good, old fashion relationship drama as a bunch of aspiring influencers pretend as if they’re remotely interested in finding genuine love on national television.

By now, I’ve begrudgingly accepted that Love is Blind is more about the drama than scratching itches for hopeless romantics. It sucks, but it’s the truth.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have returned for another season of Love is Blind. The hit reality series is back for an eighth season, following a new set of singles from Minnesota who are ready to enter the pods to find their husband/wife. Through the first six episodes, we saw many love triangles, breakups, and five engagements. We share who gets engaged and the odds of whether they will get married.

Over the last few seasons, we have seen some off-the-screen drama attempt to overshadow the show, but personally, the fact that people are still getting married and staying together keeps me coming back for more. The concept of “Love is Blind” might sound crazy, but we’ve seen some fantastic couples power through this experiment and cross that finish line. The year 1980 was crucial for Naseeruddin Shah. It was the year when two of his career’s most decisive films, Saeed Mirza’s Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai and Sai Paranjpye’s Sparsh, were released within months of each other. While in Mirza’s film, the indomitable Naseer played a very angry member of a minority community, in Sparsh, he again played an extremely marginalized character from another minority community. Back in 1922, after an extended battle with the censors of the time (who were unhappy with the subject matter of “doctors creating artificial life and attempting to play God”), Goldwyn Pictures released a silent horror film called A Blind Bargain, which starred the legendary Lon Chaney as both Dr. Arthur Lamb and his assistant, the Ape Man. Sadly, A Blind Bargain went on to become a lost film, as MGM destroyed the original negative years after they took over Goldwyn Pictures, and the last surviving print is thought to have burned in the same 1965 fire in Vault #7 on the MGM backlot that also resulted in the loss of London After Midnight and other Lon Chaney films. Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos said the mammoth turnout of viewers to watch Jake Paul fight Mike Tyson was a success — notwithstanding the video glitches that disrupted the livestream.

“We hate to disappoint members for one second,” said Sarandos, speaking Tuesday at the Ubs Global Media & Communications Conference in New York. “On that night, we were stressing our own technology” as well as that of every internet service provider across the globe, he added: “We were stressing the limits of the internet itself that night.”

On the evening of the heavily hyped Paul-Tyson fight, Nov. 15, Netflix customers took to social media to complain about their video feeds freezing while the livestream was buffering. Netflix is the target of a lawsuit seeking class-action status filed on behalf of a customer who alleged the event was “unwatchable” because of the technical problems. All told, the event, including two undercard fights, stretched over 5.5 hours.

Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, is confident her Netflix NFL halftime show on Christmas Day won’t run into any technical problems.

“I have no worries,” Knowles told me Wednesday at the Los Angeles premiere of Tyler Perry’s new movie, “The Six Triple Eight.” “God is going to be in control and everything is going to go smooth. No glitches. It’s going to be great.”

She added, “We got some prayer going on. We got some connections.”

Netflix encountered buffering and image issues during the livestream event for Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s match in November. Technical issues also disrupted Netflix’s first major live event, a “Love is Blind” reunion, in April 2023, forcing the program to be taped and aired at a later date.
