    I loved it!

Massacre at Femur Creek is a raucous, blood-soaked horror comedy that blends stoner humor, raunchy antics, and nostalgic homages to classic slasher films like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Directed by Kyle Hytonen, the film strikes a delicate balance between gut-busting laughs and gut-wrenching gore, delivering an experience that's both wildly entertaining and surprisingly heartfelt.

At its core, the story explores themes of friendship, loss, and self-discovery. While the blood flows freely and the scares come fast, the movie never loses sight of its emotional grounding. The five main characters, whose chemistry and performances breathe life into the narrative, guide viewers through a journey that's equal parts absurd and meaningful. Their growth from clinging to the past to embracing the future adds surprising depth to a film that could have easily relied solely on its gory thrills.

That said, the film's low-budget roots are evident in its production design, which may be a sticking point for some viewers. Certain effects and settings come across as rough around the edges, and the cinematography occasionally lacks the polish of bigger-budget horror flicks. However, these trappings never detract from the movie's charm; if anything, they lend it a scrappy, DIY authenticity that aligns with its irreverent tone.

Hytonen's direction and storytelling are compelling enough to rise above these limitations. His understanding of the horror genre is clear, with expertly crafted tension, inventive kills, and a winking nod to horror classics that seasoned fans will appreciate. The energetic soundtrack also helps smooth over the film's rougher edges, adding fun and atmosphere to every scene.

Ultimately, Massacre at Femur Creek might not be a technical marvel, but it's a wildly entertaining ride with heart. Even with its shoestring budget, it delivers laughs, scares, and surprising depth, making it a must-watch for fans of horror comedies.

    Tons Of Fun!

This movie turned out to be a surprisingly fun watch, even though it wasn't without its flaws. It's rare to find a slasher movie that manages to blend humor and heartfelt moments in such a natural way, and this one certainly delivered on both. The balance between horror and comedy worked well for the most part, though there were times when the humor felt a bit out of place, breaking the tension that a slasher thrives on. Some jokes landed perfectly, but others were forced, making the film feel uneven at times.

What really stood out, however, was the cast. Each actor brought a sense of authenticity to their role, making the characters feel more relatable than the typical one-dimensional figures often seen in this genre. It reminded me of Friday the 13th, where the characters are usually just fodder for the killer. But here, there was more depth, and you could actually invest in these people beyond just waiting to see who gets killed next. That said, a few supporting characters were still a bit too predictable, relying on familiar horror clichés, which kept the film from feeling completely fresh.

Massacre at Femur Creek delivers a fun, nostalgic ride for fans of horror comedies, particularly those who enjoyed the OG slasher films of the 80s. There were also some clever and funny jabs at iconic movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which definitely got me!

    Delivered the goods!

I had the privilege to see this at the premiere and although this is an independent movie with a smaller budget, It is very well made and the actors are all very good. It's a great mix of horror with splashes of comedy throughout, If you are fan of the horror genre and support the indy film scene , i would highly recommend that you watch this film the first chance you get!!!!

Kyle Hytonen has made a great film and might even end up being a cult classic in future, the way he seamlessly blends horror with comedy without missing a beat is amazing, I am now on the Kyle Hytonen hype train and I applore everyone else to come on board for the ride!

Wonderfully Silly Slice of Indie Horror

Massacre at Femur Creek is the story about a man suffering a midlife crisis, before he even has the chance to get to midlife. Thanks in part to, to a group of friends who are equally supportive and harbingers of doom... Oh, and there's also an escaped serial killer!

The movie starts off strong. With a fantastic kill that is pure homage to F13: the final chapter, but with the comedy of F13: Jason Lives! This will be the tone moving forward, and the movie does a good job with the comedy. The kills are the best kind of low budget affair as well, plenty of close up shots, and blood lines spurting throughout.

The only place where the movie stumbles, is the drama department. Not that its bad, the actors in this film are a lot of fun, and can easily pull off a dramatic scene. The issue is that the drama runs too long in several parts, and brings the momentum to a screeching halt.

Overall though it's a fantastic homage to 80's horror, and once you find out it was made for under $10,000 it makes you really question what the hell some of these other movies are doing with their budgets.

4 outta 5! Cause the killer looks like Brian Cox in Manhunter.
