"The Perfect Wedding" presents a simple, straight-forward romance that doesn't try to be anything it isn't. The entire cast is wonderful, the production values are high, and the film combines the straight story line and the gay story line perfectly. The impending wedding of the straight sister perfectly balances the blossoming romance and drama of the gay brother. I've been craving a gay romance without all the tortured souls, internalized homophobia, and convoluted drama. This fit the bill perfectly. I hope you enjoy it as well.
Also be sure to watch "Plan B" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1408972/), a great romantic comedy that will really move you.

This is very middle of the road but still entertaining and a nice option for an alternative Christmas movie. But I had to write as raptureofori2 was too harsh in their review. Mainly because the super sexy guy would never date the "ordinary" looking guy. That is so untrue. We can't control where our hearts go. I would fall into the ordinary category but I am lucky that a lot of men I find sexy and hot also like me. Like Baskin Robbins, there's 31 flavors and everyone has their tastes. Some think I am ugly and some think I am hot. It's up to us, time and chemistry to pair me up with the right match.
So raptureofori2 please don't judge a book by its cover or dictate your tastes on the rest of us. There's something for everyone

I loved loved loved this movie. I thought it was quite well written. One of my favorite things about the film was the multiple story lines that were balanced perfectly. Everyone had a fair shot to tell their story. And the central love story was simply amazing. I caught myself crying many times. I really loved this movie. So much better than your typical gay-themed movie.
My very favorite thing about this movie was that it used a device that author Connie Willis calls that "hat trick" or "hat joke." What that means is that a line or set of lines is repeated throughout the story-line but in different ways, changing the meaning, and intensifying it.
I would have given it a 10 but some of the acting was only so-so. Lead actor Eric Aragon was one of those so-so actors--sometimes he was GOOD and sometimes he was just okay. But he tried hard and he was SO much better than a lot actors in a LOT of gay movies that I've seen. I also dearly loved sweet Jason T. Gaffney. He brought so much to his role.
I was surprised at how awesome Kristine Sutherland (of Buffy fame) was. She knocked it out of the park. And of course James Rebhorn was excellent, as always.
Everyone was gorgeous. Esp Eric Aragon, Jason Gaffney, and Roger Stewart. Yes, the scene with Eric in the towel might be considered gratuitous, but I would watch this over and over for that scene! LOL!
Beautiful romantic movie!! We need more movies with gay characters like this one where the fact that their gay is just a part of who they are, showing we're just regular people! I'll be watching for these people in the future!

This understated indie film features an ensemble of unknown actors in a slow-building family drama with lighter moments.
While the focus is on the blossoming gay love triangle, there are hints of trouble in the others' lives too. Emotional subtleties are allowed to develop at a pace that respects the very real truths unfolding and the almost European level of vulnerability between characters.
The palette is muted throughout, likely from budgetary constraints, but it works to keep the focus on the actors. The Florida setting allows for casual outdoor scenes and a few shots of great natural beauty.
This film will never set the world on fire but it has a lot of heart. It knows what's really important, in family, in weddings, and at Christmas

"The Perfect Wedding" is a film for select viewers, as the main characters in the film are gay and it's clearly a gay romantic film. However, if you are open-minded you're sure to have a terrific time watching this very sweet film. The movie is not a big-budget Hollywood release though despite its humble origins and relatively cost, it does deliver because of the writing as well as some of the acting--particularly by James Rebhorn (in one of his last films) and the very handsome Eric Aragon.
Eric (Aragon) is coming home for Christmas...not just because of the holiday but so that the family can plan the wedding for his sister, Alana. However, one of the guests coming as well is a very uncomfortable one for Eric...his former lover...a man he clearly wronged due to his infidelity and alcoholism. Eric has been clean and sober but this is still going to be a difficult situation. It's also difficult for his -ex...so difficult he recruits a friend to come along and pretend to be his steady boyfriend. However, soon friend finds himself falling for Eric and vice-versa...a very, very difficult and messy situation! Eric clearly does NOT want to continue hurting people and works to avoid this...but there are definite sparks. How does this as well as the wedding work out in this romantic film?
The film is well worth seeing...and I recommend you check Netflix to see if it's still streaming. My only reservations are that the film is not perfectly polished and 'big'...but who really needs that if the romance works so well like it does in this one?!
By the way, if you are wondering, when the film was made in 2012, gay marriage was not legally recognized in Florida. And, if you are wondering, yes, Sarasota, Florida (the location where the film was shot) IS paradise...and I enjoyed seeing that a nice film was made only a few minutes from my house.

The Perfect Wedding is extremely stupid, very badly written and acted, totally unbelievable fluff. It's a gay clone of every Doris Day movie made half a century ago, but even stupider. Day had millions of devoted fans, as does this movie, apparently, but I don't fit in either group.
The only person in it who is even worth looking at is Roger Stewart as Roy the loser. He's fascinating and very, very attractive, but he's wasted on a stupid role in a stupid movie. I'd never seen him before, so discovering him is the one good thing I got from this movie and almost compensates for not being allowed to give it zero stars. All the other actors (and their characters) are as boring as mud - especially the two toothy, brainless Frog Prince mimbos in the middle.
For all those self-hating gay men who can't survive long without a fix of total unreality and shallow, sloppy, bogus, nauseatingly predictable "romance", this movie should prove almost as satisfying as heroin.

It's cute, there is a lot to take away, maybe too much.
It's a gay story, it's a Recovery story, and it's a getting old movie.
I was entertained, but we could have left one story out and gotten a more rounded movie.
Eric Aragon seemed to be having fun with his character and didn't take it so seriously. James Rebhorn is recognizable and is great as the patriarch of the family. He's an Ally, funny, and wise.
The attempt of the mother of being over bearing fell short didn't add enough of a conflict.
Overall, it's a nice holiday movie, slow, easy to follow.
Not sure it will be a classic, but I'm glad I watched.

All the glowing reviews must be from people connected to the film because it's terrible. It makes no sense. Terrible acting, direction and writing.

It was so cute and sweet without being flamboyant or over the top like so many gay themed movies are. It also lacked the 'drowning in angst' that is the other extreme for gay movies, where it seems like there is simply no upside to being gay and all you can do is hate yourself before you commit suicide or die of a drug overdose. It wasn't just the romance I liked, though - I also liked the straight sister's fiancé and her little wedding in the backyard, and the parents dealing with a family medical issue. I understand why some people wouldn't like it, because they equate 'cute' with 'sappy'. And that's fine. But for anyone who likes cute and sweet and a little fluffy, I'd highly recommend this film. You can find it on Netflix to stream.

While it's not well written, and the acting is mediocre, the worst part is the fact that someone would actually cast that actor that played Gavin as a love interest for an attractive guy like Paul. I mean who did he have to screw to get that part. I almost threw up when the cute guy, Paul, kissed that mouth on Gavin. Just wrong! The kid has more gum and teeth than a horse, he's got a horrid farmers tan, and His acting was almost as unattractive as he is. Please save yourself the time and watch Geography Club instead. It could have been a decent movie if they recasted a few people and got someone with talent to write the script. Cute concept, bad execution.

What a totally charming and fun movie. Every character was someone I liked and was interested in and the story was both lovely and loving. It was perfect for a day when I wanted something completely feel-good. I would find it impossible to be in a bad mood after watching this.
Some of had issues with the casting. I disagree with them all. First off I'm in an inter-racial marriage and can attest it's possible to be a person of color without a best friend of the same race. I can also attest it's possible for a "hunk" to fall for someone who is sweet, funny, smart, and attractive but not of equal "hunk" status.
I loved the casting and found the chemistry between the adorable Gavin (a charming Jason T. Gaffney) and nicely-flawed Paul (Eric Aragon, showing a lovely, subtle touch) to be both sweet and sexy. (By the way, I also think Jason Gaffney is pretty damned attractive.)

This film could have been make for Hallmark. While it's predictable, one dimensional, and not overly engaging, there are some nice elements, especially since it was made in 2012. The same-sex romance was completely normalized and had nothing to do with the conflict. This was before same-sex marriage was legal in the US. Not all of the actors are perfect models types. There are also some unanswered questions. I'm not even sure why some are in the storyline. If you want something light in the background where everyone's happy in the end, go for it!

This film has everything you want from a meet cute/ mistaken angst/happy ending, romantic comedy. What is lovely is that the two happy ending characters are gay and their gayness is not the focus of the story. Their romantic comedy is the focus. Just like any traditional romantic comedy there are silly misunderstandings, longing for the person you think is taken, being a 'good guy' and not expressing your interest because you think it will hurt someone else, then discovering that all along that person was both free and clear and wishing you would notice him.... There are multiple heartfelt story lines, a family you wish were your own, gorgeous settings, lovely music, cute dialogue with catchphrases, and adorable actors. The movie clearly doesn't intend to be BIG or IMPORTANT. The intent is to be happy, light, and fun. And it works!
From the judgment of this film, being gay is not a matter of concern at all. Maybe in ten or twenty years' time this can come to be true. According to the movie, it's not a problem at all being gay. Not a sole character states any concern about it, and the loves of the gay triangle happening in the film could very well be a straight one. Only it would be hard to accommodate the situation with only three people. Taking that of, the film turns out to be very pleasurable, making you laugh as well as cry. We must forget the environment of reality. For instance, how could Gavin go to the bus station without anyone noticing, and how did he get there if no car was available. These questions abound throughout the movie, but they didn't take that smile from your face. It's a film made to pleasure, and it certainly does. No major conflict, just the usual misunderstandings of a romcom. The actors play well, and being a group of chunks doesn't make the movie less enjoyable, that's for sure. A film for all audiences. Hey straight people, that's how to look and behave toward gays, OK?
What a beautiful lgbtq film. Great story, lovely acting and great direction. It's a romantic comedy not an Oscar drama, please enjoy it for what it is. Loved it!

Finally! A film with gay male characters treating their lifestyle as a "normal everyday family thing" without prejudice. No one in this film is trying to fix a gay male character up with a woman, nor does any character view same-sex male relationships as anything out of the ordinary. A real winner!
