Bertie Carvel to Play Cornelius Fudge in HBO's 'Harry Potter' Reboot
Image
HBO's Harry Potterreboot has reportedly cast another key character after recently locking in the actors for Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Olivier Award-winner Bertie Carvel, best known for his roles in The Crown and Dalgliesh, has been tapped for a recurring role as the Minster for Magic Cornelius Fudge in the high-profile TV adaptation. He would be taking the mantle from the late Robert Hardy, who fulfilled the role in the originalfilm series for four consecutive installments, starting with 2002's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The report, which comes courtesy of Deadline, has yet to be officially confirmed by HBO. The network shared with the outlet that casting details will only be announced when deals are finalized, indicating that Carvel's prospective role as Cornelius Fudge is still being negotiated at this time. I Hope Denis Villeneuve Is Ready to Eat His Own Words After ‘Andor’ by Making a Star Wars Movie
Image
The Star Wars universe is arguably the most influential franchise, having impacted several generations of filmmakers. Created by George Lucas, the franchise was arguably at its peak during the 1980s, when filmmaker Denis Villeneuve watched and fell in love with the original Star Wars trilogy.

Despite admitting to being a fan of the epic space opera saga, Villeneuve revealed the issue he had with the franchise’s storytelling. While Villeneuve felt that he would not make a movie in the franchise, I hope the success of Andor proves the director wrong and convinces him to make a Star Wars movie.

Denis Villeneuve revealed his problem with Star Wars movies

Director Denis Villeneuve gained critical acclaim for his grounded action-thriller movies like Sicario before turning his attention to the sci-fi genre. He tasted commercial success with his Dune movies and is expected to return for a third installment, which is currently in development.

Star Wars Resurrects One Forgotten Obi-Wan Kenobi Plotline In New Disney+ Show
Image
The Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series spent valuable time introducing and explaining an important plot point in the world of Star Wars that many fans likely forgot about, but the franchise's newest Disney+ series recently brought it back and expanded upon it. As time has gone on, more and more projects in the galaxy far, far away have been set during the rise of the Empire era between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, including Obi-Wan Kenobi and the recently released Tales of the Underworld.

Three years ago, Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ and allowed fans to catch up with Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi as he was forced back into action following the events of Revenge of the Sith (find out if Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 will ever happen here). In that series, one of the biggest plotlines that was expanded on featured something known as the Hidden Path...

When Jonah Hill Revealed How Little He Made For The Wolf Of Wall Street — And Why He Didn’t Care
Image
Why Did Jonah Hill Settle For A Minimum Paycheck In The Wolf Of Wall Street? ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Jonah Hill’s career has been a long game of reinvention. He started out in loud comedies and eventually landed deep in the world of high-caliber dramas. One of the biggest turning points came in The Wolf of Wall Street, where his portrayal of the unhinged, gold-chain-wearing Donnie Azoff firmly established him as more than just the funny sidekick.

While starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie in a Scorsese-directed frenzy of drugs, greed, and chaos, Hill didn’t just hold his own. He stole scenes.

Star Power But Minimum Paycheck

Jonah Hill’s paycheck for the role was shockingly humble despite the film’s A-list glamour and blockbuster status. While his co-stars raked in millions, Hill pocketed what amounted to a Hollywood minimum wage, around $60K, for nearly seven months of shooting.

There’s One Naruto Spinoff of The Story’s Bloodiest Massacre That Kishimoto Must Write With Double the Gore and Violence
Image
Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is no stranger to the themes of violence, tragedy, and meaningless destruction. Several of its characters are morally ambiguous, and their decisions force us to evaluate our understanding of human nature and malice.

And yet, even in its darkest chapters, the Bloody Mist massacre stands out as the most brutal. The tale of how the Fourth Mizukage ordered the culling of every individual possessing a Kekkei Genkai is Naruto’s bloodiest untold story. A spinoff detailing this massacre would allow one to explore the toll of such a purge and serve as an excellent story.

Demi Moore's Awards Season Dominance Caps Off With Shocking Oscars Loss
Image
Heading into the Academy Awards, Demi Moore was seemingly the favorite to win Best Actress in a Leading Role. For her acclaimed performance in the movie The Substance, she had dominated previous awards shows with some prestigious wins, setting the stage for getting her first-ever Oscar on Sunday evening. This would have marked her first Oscar, but it wasn't meant to be.

At the Oscars, Mikey Madison picked up the win for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Anora. Madison has been very heavily praised as one of the stars of Anora, and the film was also a big winner of other prestigious awards at the Oscars. However, the win may still be seen as surprising, as Moore had been so dominant during the awards season leading up to this point.

When Does Clark Learn to Fly in Smallville? (& Every Time He Got Close)
Image
Smallville had a strict “no tights, no flights” rule for Clark Kent. The series followed a young Clark Kent before he became Superman, and learning to fly was the final hurdle for Clark. Despite the mantra, the show found loopholes and ways to tease the ability.

Clark continues to develop his abilities and gets stronger as Smallville progresses, but the power of flight eludes him. It’s not something that other Kryptonians struggle with, indicating it’s a mental barrier that prevents Clark Kent from getting airborne. Kara, Zod, and the Kandorians took to the skies easily and quickly.

Clark was Earthbound, but Kal-El Could Fly

The first hint at Clark flying came in the season two opener, “Vortex.” When Clark runs in a tornado to save Lana, he recalls the incident when talking to his dad. Clark said, “I know it could've been the wind, but all of a sudden,...

Juliette Binoche Named 2025 Cannes Film Festival President Of The Jury
Image
French actress Juliette Binoche has been named President of the Jury for the 2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival in May.

The honor, which was announced on Tuesday morning Paris time, will fall exactly 40 years after the Oscar-winning The English Patient star first touched down at the festival with André Téchiné’s Palme d’Or contender Rendez-vous in 1985.

Binoche follows in the footsteps of U.S. director Greta Gerwig whose jury feted Sean Baker’s Anora with the Palme d’Or last year.

“I’m looking forward to sharing these life experiences with the members of the Jury and the public. In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of President of the Jury. I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility,” said Binoche.

Steven Soderbergh at an event for Les divins secrets (2002)
Are you being watched? Soderbergh’s ghost voyeur movie taps strange truths
Steven Soderbergh at an event for Les divins secrets (2002)
Presence, the story of a family haunting where the camera’s eye is the spectre’s point of view, draws on what are for many people all too palpable phenomena

Steven Soderbergh’s new film Presence this week heralds the return of a cinematic technique familiar to many fans of scary movies: the point-of-view shot. Viewing a scene through the eyes of an antagonist – such as the extended opening of John Carpenter’s Halloween – can be a chilling way of drawing viewers into the action, making us feel like we are both the watcher and being watched. When combined with sustained shots without an edit, we become eavesdroppers and voyeurs, lingering long past when the scene should have moved on. From Hitchcock’s Rear Window to Haneke’s Hidden, a camera that holds it gaze can fill us with a creeping sense of dread.

Presence uses both tricks, telling us...

This Compelling Detective Series Follows Both Sides of the Crime
Image
When it comes to crime-solving shows and detective dramas like True Detective or Broadchurch, typically the story depends on the whodunit mystery to keep audiences engaged. The Welsh series Hidden (also known as Craith), however, takes a different approach by offering a look into both sides of the crime, relying more on the “why” rather than the "who" and never making it a secret who the perpetrator is. One storyline consists of what you'd find in a typical crime series, as it follows the detectives and their investigative steps in solving the case. Running parallel is a more unconventional narrative, following the perpetrator of the crime from the moment it is committed to the point where the truth inevitably catches up to them. Even with this fresh take, Hidden will appeal to fans of slow-burn detective dramas like The Bridge or The Killing while offering something a little different.

Stranger Eyes (2024)
Stranger Eyes (2024) ‘Iffk’ Movie Review: A Taut and Cerebral Surveillance Thriller that Twists and Turns into an Unexpected Study of Human Connection
Stranger Eyes (2024)
Spanning 750 square kilometers, it would be unwise to commit a crime in Singapore. Not that it’s impossible to commit a crime in the city-state, but it sure is impossible to get away with it. The Southeast Asian nation is one of the most surveilled countries in the world with more than 100,00 cameras watching the moves of its 6 million strong population, which makes the central conflict of “Stranger Eyes” – a missing child – all the more elusive. But as the film progresses, writer-director Yeo Siew Hua intentionally shifts gears from a potential police procedural into a melancholic, existential study of how even in the age of mass surveillance, we seek our temptations and despite being watched by a camera, seldom do we feel seen in any meaningful way.

This narrative friction between seeing and being seen, being realized, and being wanted when there’s no chance of reciprocation is at the core of this taut thriller.

10 Unbelievable Scenes In Historical Movies That Are Accurate To Real-Life
Image
The most intriguing part of non-fiction movies set in the past, whether they're war films, action flicks, or sweeping historical dramas, is how accurately they portray certain events. While the most wonderful aspect of going to the movies is the pure escapism you get from being transported to another era, it is also interesting when a film depicts something truly unbelievable that happened for real.

There are many moments in movies that are so fantastical, they must have been dreamed up to spice up the narrative, and are too shocking to be real. For example, toward the end of Titanic, where the elderly couple embrace when the ship is sinking. It's a poignant moment in the film that happened. Another example is 127 Hours, particularly the scene where James Franco's real-life character Aron Ralston cuts off his arm to survive after being trapped between two rocks. This, like many...

Season 4 is especially big for JJ, first when it is revealed that his real father is Chandler Groff and then when, in the biggest shock in Outer Banks' entire run, Groff kills JJ in the season finale. The latter twist has been met with shock and disappointment from fans who question how the Pogues will deal with this tragedy in Outer Banks' final season.

Did You Catch An Interesting Easter Egg In Penelope & Colin’s Wedding Scene In Bridgerton Season 3?
Image
Hidden Easter Egg spotted in Penelope and Colin’s wedding scene ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

As we approach a new season of Bridgerton, where we finally get to see the fairytale romance between Benedict and Sophia- Let’s see a throwback between the iconic couple Penelope and Colin. Season three was a complete roller coaster, like the books, with all the shenanigans with Lady Whistledown and the passionate love story between Colin and Penelope.

So, not revisiting this story before the next season would be appalling! If you have seen anything created by Shondaland, you know the artists and directors love hiding easter eggs in the pivotal scenes. For instance, there was a scene in season 2 where Penelope wears a beautiful green gown, which is a subtle nod to her and Colin’s future love story.

Her regular color before the legendary transformation was yellow, while the Bridgerton family color was blue.

Winona Ryders Beetlejuice 2 Return Ironically Fulfills 1 Original Movie Plan That Tim Burton Rejected 36 Years Ago
Image
Lydia Deetzs career in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice follows her fame as the host of the fictional paranormal talk show Ghost House, which is a meta nod to a big change that Tim Burton made to the 1988 original movie. The returning characters in Beetlejuice 2 humorously fulfill the trajectories set out by the end of the original film, with Delia becoming a famous artist, Charles still being an avid bird watcher (though the hobby indirectly kills him), Betelgeuse taking over clerical work in the afterlife, and Lydia rising to fame by turning her ghost-seeing gift into a TV show.

While Lydia films her final episode in Beetlejuice 2s ending, Ghost Houses conclusion is seemingly a meta nod to Burtons own career trajectory. Burton has frequently noted his personal connection to Lydias character, and explained her story as addressing the idea that people sometimes lose themselves and sell out as they grow older.

Donnie Yen's Sakra Only Has 67% On Rotten Tomatoes, But The 2023 Movie Will Be Hailed As A Martial Arts Classic By Future Generations
Image
The multi-award-winning martial arts star Donnie Yen has appeared in some of the greatest martial arts movies of all time, and, after his iconic performance in John Wick: Chapter 4, he is busier than ever. Donnie Yen has five upcoming action movies, but he has also returned to the director's chair after a 19-year break. In 2023, Yen both directed and starred in the martial arts movie, Sakra. Sakra is about a martial arts expert, Qiao Feng, played by Yen, who is accused of the murder of his adoptive parents and goes on the run while trying to clear his name.

Many of Yen's best movies have become instant successes and martial arts classics, like Hero with its 94% Rotten Tomatoes rating. However, Sakra was less well-received than many of Yen's other movies, earning a 67% Rotten Tomatoes critical rating. Critics found the storyline overstuffed and a little confusing, but it appears that...

Beetlejuice 2 Used A Genius Lydia Detail To Hide Jeremys True Identity
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Beetlejuice 2 ahead!Jeremy was not at all who he pretended to be when he first met Astrid in Beetlejuice 2, and a clever detail surrounding Lydia hid his true identity. Arthur Conti's Jeremy was one of the new characters in Beetlejuice 2 alongside Jenna Ortega, who played Lydia's teenage daughter Astrid. At first, it seemed like Jeremy would be an innocent love interest for the youngest member of the Deetz family, but that was not the case. Jeremy turned out to be a ghost that tricked Astrid into nearly swapping her life for his.

Though Jeremy almost succeeded in his plan to get his life back, Betelgeuse saved Astrid after being reunited with Lydia and her dead father, Richard, who worked in the afterlife. The teen spirit was sent to Hell, which seemed like a fitting fate based on Jeremy's Beetlejuice 2 backstory. After killing...

Without This Horror Movie With 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, You Just Dont Get 'Stranger Things'
Image
It may seem like Stranger Things is a one-of-a-kind hit, with its nostalgic 80s vibe and supernatural inclination, however, it did not come out of nowhere. There's a horror film out there with an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score that paved the way for the series success, and its grossly overlooked. Before Hawkins was terrorized by the Upside Down, there was Hidden, directed by the Duffer Brothers themselves. The 2015 film is a combination of claustrophobic horror with emotional storytelling, two elements that would later define their hit Netflix series.

8 Times Superman Has Died Onscreen (& How Long It Lasted)
Image
Superman is one of the most popular characters in the entire DC Universe, and the popular comic book "The Death of Superman" has served as inspiration for several projects throughout the years. In animation, live-action, and even video games, the story of Superman's death has been a popular point of adaptation, featuring Doomsday or even bigger villains. While some series have adapted details loosely, including in the Justice League cartoon, where Superman did not actually die but was sent to the future, others have been much more faithful to the source material.

Superman's darkest story has been made even heavier with the recent episodes of Superman and Lois. Following a clash with Doomsday, the show has focussed on the trauma of how this has affected others, and this follows a long line of adaptations that have done the same. Seeing this iconic storyline being adapted for a new series has...

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Producer Tommy Harper Joins Forces With Matt Charman To Develop ‘Sometimes I Lie’ TV Adaptation
Image
Exclusive: Fresh from the successful box office roll-out of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, its prolific producer Tommy Harper is joining forces with writer-producer Matt Charman to develop a series adaptation of Alice Feeney’s bestselling book, Sometimes I Lie.

The psychological thriller revolves around the character of Amber Reynolds as she wakes up in hospital to discover, she can’t move, speak or open her eyes, but can hear, unbeknownst to those around her.

She doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband, who no longer loves her, was somehow involved. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, the thriller slowly pieces together the truth.

The series will be executive produced by Harper, whose myriad credits also include Burton’s Netflix series Wednesday, Willow and Top Gun: Maverick,...

Stranger Things Owes Everything to a 9-Year-Old Thriller You've Never Heard Of
Image
Long before they became known for creating one of recent memory's most popular television series, Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers were a pair of twins who, not long out of college, wrote a screenplay for a horror film that promptly started a bidding war. You've probably never even heard of that film, let alone seen it, because it was more or less abandoned by its studio and released into the world as an afterthought.

The film's name is Hidden, and while it could have spelled the end of the Duffer Brothers' career, it didn't. Instead, it served as a calling card to M. Night Shyamalan and motivated the brothers to keep plucking away to eventually achieve their lifelong goal of becoming professional filmmakers.

How Did The Duffer Brothers Make Their First Movie? It All Happened So Fast, and Then Everything Went Wrong

How Much The Raneys Really Get Paid For Homestead Rescue And What They Do With Their Incredible Fortune
Image
While some reality shows show glitz and glam, others show the grit and dirt of living off the land. Sure, people still wonder if these shows are heavily produced and edited. There are questions if the survival reality show Alone is real, because even when a show is filmed in the woods instead of in a city or town, viewers are still skeptical.

Discovery's Homestead Rescue definitely seems to be one of the most fascinating shows of its kind. Marty Raney gives people advice on becoming homesteaders along with his children Misty and Matt. And it seems fair to assume that they have made some good money over 11 seasons.

Fans wonder who pays for the Homestead Rescue renovations. And fans also want to know about the Raney's family's Homestead Rescue salary along with what kind of lifestyle they lead.

‘Stranger Eyes’ Review: A Slippery, Well-Acted Singaporean Thriller About Observation and Surveillance
Image
With Stranger Eyes, ascendant Singaporean filmmaker Yeo Siew Hua transmogrifies what looks at first like a creepy crime thriller into something much more tricksy, potent and ultimately puzzling, yet still rooted in recognizable human fragility. Already scheduled to travel to further festivals after its premiere in competition at Venice, this cerebral, downbeat mediation on voyeurism, exhibitionism, identity, guilt and loss — all that fun stuff — could ride a wave of critical support to niche distribution beyond Asia, especially in cinephile markets.

Yeo’s work is known for its playful, pretzel-y approach to chronology and nested narratives, and while Stranger Eyes doesn’t dive as far as his A Land Imagined did into the meta end of the pool, it gets its feet wet. Like its predecessor, it starts in the middle and then flashes back, and drops in strange moments where time seems to shift for characters who overlap and parallel one another.

What Happened To Qi'ra After Solo: A Star Wars Story
Image
While Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra was Han Solo's first love as seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, what happened next in the Star Wars timeline after she left him? Although Qi'ra's story hasn't been featured in any subsequent films or streaming series, her tale has continued in other Star Wars media, most notably in the pages of Marvel Comics' canonical series set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Qi'ra fate - and her leadership of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate - has been explored across a full trilogy in the comics (and a role in Ubisoft's Star Wars: Outlaws).

At the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Qi'ra killed the crime lord Dryden Vos so she could take his place as leader of Crimson Dawn. The crime cartel is one of five operating within the Dark Times of the Empire's reign, all...

10 Star Wars Animated Characters I'd Love To See In Live-Action
Image
A significant number of animated Star Wars characters have recently made the jump to live-action. However, there are plenty more galactic heroes and villains I would love to see so the same. Because the established Star Wars canon spans multiple mediums and formats, it's hopefully only a matter of time.

Thanks to Star Wars shows such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and especially Ahsoka, there's been a recent influx of animated characters from The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels who have joined Lucasfilm's live-action projects. This includes characters like Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Hera Syndulla, Bo-Katan Kryze, Cad Bane, and more. However, here are 10 more animated Star Wars characters I'd love to see in live-action as well.

Naruto Characters Who Naruto Ultimately Won Over
Image
Naruto dealt with many challenges and obstacles during his ninja journey, but he managed to overcome them all with his unwavering determination. Naruto may have been a knucklehead, but he has the natural ability to connect with others. At various points throughout the series, Naruto won over many characters who seemed lost, and they all became better people because of him.

Many of these Naruto characters were villains who wanted to hurt and even kill Naruto, while others were decent humans who simply lost their way. Naruto may have initially reached some of these characters through battle, but it was ultimately his words and empathy that won them over. He even won over beings who were the personification of hate.

This Apocalyptic Horror Movie Is Like 'A Quiet Place' But With a Crazy Twist Ending
Image
What is it about father-daughter relationships in a post-apocalyptic dystopian setting that makes for such compelling cinema? The origin story of John Krasinski's A Quiet Place (2018), A Quiet Place: Day One, has hit theaters and reminded us a lot of a 2015 film that tackles the same subject matter but in an entirely different way with a bizarre twist ending. The A Quiet Place franchise is far from the first to use silence as a key plot device. Written and directed by the then relatively unknown Duffer Brothers who would go on to create the pop culture phenomenon that is Stranger Things just a year later, Hidden employs a similarly strategic use of "what is lurking up above?" as the key dramatic element. There are plenty of things that these two movies have in common, but it's where they differ that makes Hidden worth the two-hour watch.
