E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial ended up being more than just a movie, it was a cultural phenomenon. It made audiences both young and old laugh, cry, and probably wish they had a glowing-fingered alien best friend. It also proved that Steven Spielberg had the magic touch, delivering a sci-fi masterpiece that was as heartwarming as it was groundbreaking.

And no doubt it was a hit, with its massive box office success, E.T. had all the makings of a billion-dollar franchise. Sequels, spin-offs, maybe even an E.T. cinematic universe, Hollywood was ready to cash in. But Spielberg slammed the brakes, here is why!

Our beloved DC hero Batman has had several iterations in live-action since it first debuted decades ago. While most left an indelible impression on the world of superheroes, others went so incredibly wrong that they have now left a mark on the mythos so dark that it is hard to ignore them. And so, whether fans would want it or not, many can’t help but think about what a disaster Batman & Robin was.

While it being a disaster is a different case scenario, at its core, it was an iconic collaboration between some of Hollywood’s most prolific actors. And among its ensemble cast, it was Arnold Schwarzenegger as Freeze who stood out the most. Often claimed as the first choice for the eccentric character, there is a possibility that the...

This is week, we’re heading to Japan via Portugal to hear about Freeze, an entertaining format in which contestants need to stay still while faced with loud noises, jumps, comedy situations and even robot arms, all designed to make them move and lose money. Japan is famed for its wacky formats and distributor Fremantle has proven the concept can travel by landing three season commissions for the show in Portugal, just six months after adding it to the catalog.

It looks like DC fans are going to have to wait a bit longer for a solo Mr. Freeze project. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has debunked a recent report stating that a Mr. Freeze project was about to enter production.
After Production Weekly listed a Mr. Freeze project as being in development, fans quickly flooded Gunn's Threads account with comments asking the DC boss if there was any truth behind the listing. Unfortunately, Gunn was quick to dismiss the news, reminding fans that they shouldn't believe anything they read online about DC Studios' upcoming slate until it's officially confirmed by him or co-ceo Peter Safran. "I havent heard that one but there are a lot of rumors out there this week. Some of them are true, some are partially true, and some arent true at all," he wrote. While James Gunn is hard at work rebooting the DC cinematic universe, Matt Reeves is equally busy expanding his “Epic Crime Saga,” which began with 2022’s The Batman.
The Batman was designed to kick off a new trilogy and create a standalone, Batman-centric shared universe, dubbed the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.” By 2019, key cast members had already committed to future films.
Both Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves expressed interest in bringing characters like Robin and villains such as the Court of Owls, Mr. Freeze, and Hush into the sequels.
A sequel, The Batman – Part II, was confirmed in 2022 with Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves returning, and it’s slated for an October 2026 release following a delay.
Meanwhile, the first spin-off series, The Penguin, focusing on Oz Cobb, is currently airing its first season to widespread acclaim from critics and fans. Recently, Reeves teased that another spin-off is in development,...

Over the weekend, you might have spotted some chatter on social media about a Mr. Freeze movie being in the works. Based on information published in Production Weekly (which doesn't ever really mean much), it would be set in the same world as The Batman and The Penguin.
There are already rumblings about Mr. Freeze being The Batman - Part II's villain due to the sequel's winter setting, so a spin-off revolving around Dr. Victor Fries isn't too outlandish.
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn was asked about the rumour on Threads and initially only added fuel to the fire with what proved to be a surprisingly vague response from the Superman director.
"I haven’t heard that one but there are a lot of rumors out there this week," he started. "Some of them are true, some are partially true, and some aren't true at all. If it’s fun...

Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe is expanding with The Penguin, a spin-off series focusing on the titular villain releasing this month. However, one important crew member is yet to be confirmed for the sequel.

Batman: The Animated Series has long been one of the most beloved adaptations of the comic book hero, but with the series celebrating its 32nd anniversary, fans flocked to the internet to highlight their favorite episodes. On September 5, 1992, Batman: The Animated Series debuted on TV. The series introduced a new voice actor as Gotham's Caped Crusader, and provided an exciting new cartoon for young kids of the time. However, the series also offered a story with depth that made it more emotional and insightful than earlier iterations.
While the popularity of Batman was on the rise, thanks to the popular theatrical films starring Michael Keaton, the version that appeared in the cartoon was much less colorful. Despite being a cartoon, the tone of the show had a wide range that saw it embrace some more mature and dark storylines, while also keeping things age appropriate for the audience. Now,...

Vampire Flower, a 2014 K-drama, ranks low due to its alignment with Twilight, lacking originality despite promising acting. Bulgasal: Immortal Souls stands out by focusing on Korean folklore and immortality concept in a unique way. Vampire Idol, a K-Pop themed sitcom, falls short in rankings due to bad CGI and cringe-worthy moments despite its concept.

Fremantle has acquired global production rights to the Japanese format “Freeze.” The high-energy comedic game show, which has aired for two seasons in Japan, was developed and produced by Fany Studio and Yoshimoto Kogyo for Amazon Prime Video. It is Fany Studio’s first global deal since it was set up in May 2023.
In “Freeze,” contestants battle it out for a grand prize. The rules are simple: Players enter a closed room and simply must “freeze” until the presenter releases them. With traps and tricks along the way that provoke reaction from the players, such as flying mannequins and giant popping balloons, only those who remain still, will survive to battle it out for a place in the grand finale. Those who move, laugh or react the most will be eliminated. The player who remains still for the longest time throughout the game is crowned the winner and will receive a prize.

The 96th Academy Awards saw Oppenheimer taking home the most awards of the night, a fine selection of memorable speeches and even a dog in the audience. But some of the funniest moments of the Oscars came in between all of these. For us, the highlight was undoubtedly a showdown for the ages between Michael Keaton and two foes of Batman: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
One presenter — well, pair of presenters — that got big laughs was the duo of Schwarzenegger and DeVito, who gave out the Oscars for Best Visual Effects and Best Editing. Now we all know that the two headlined Twins (which Oppenheimer editor Jennifer Lame was cool enough to shout out), but what they really wanted to focus on was taking down Batman, as Mr. Freeze and The Penguin were both discarded by the Caped Crusader in Batman & Robin and Batman Returns, respectively. Jean Grey's portrayal in the original X-Men series fell short of her Omega-level power status in Marvel Comics. X-Men '97 should correct Jean's weak characterization by showcasing her true potential and strength. X-Men '97 may be hinting at a controversial plot twist involving Jean's pregnancy, mirroring Madelyn Pryor's storyline.
As a revival of X-Men: The Animated series, X-Men '97 doesn't just have the chance to continue the original series but also fix some of its flaws, and it should start with the show's depiction of Jean Grey. Jean Grey's depiction in the original X-Men TV series has become somewhat infamous for the way it portrayed the popular X-Men member, and this depiction has only aged more poorly since the hero has been developed even further in Marvel Comics over the years.

Now here’s what you call an old-fashioned ripping good yarn. Sidney Lumet shows in this movie that he was still at the top of his game at the age of eighty-three. HD cameras, a non-linear narrative…he handles it all with élan and delivers an edge of the seat crime thriller with a heart. A crime is just a deed, an action like any other. What matters are the events before and after. The why’s and how’s leading up to the moment and the repercussions afterwards. That’s one thing this movie understands.
Andy Hanson is the older brother. He works in a real- estate firm. He draws a salary in six figures, has a sexy wife, Gina and lives a good life. But he has a drug problem. He’s having troubles in his office with the IRS. And his comfortable, prosperous life is about to fall apart.

Regular readers know I’m a fan of Steed’s films, so of course I was curious to see if his talents extended to producing other filmmakers’ work.

Sheltering overnight in a church they narrowly escape detection by a group of German soldiers one of whom was attacked...

Cannibal Cabin, formerly Cannibal Lake, opens in 2002 with a trio of vacationers, one of whom is very pregnant, planning to spend a weekend jet skiing at a lake next to what looks like an abandoned scrap yard. Instead, they end up meeting a nasty end at the hands of a bunch of the kind of masked cannibals that tend to inhabit places like this.
From there we move to the present day where a group of friends including Matt, Jonah, and Chris are heading to a music festival they heard about from Faye whom Jen met at another festival while peeing behind a bush.
If this sounds familiar it’s probably because it is. They set off, bickering all the way only to find the shortcut Faye told them about leads to a closed road.

A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Horror Movies YouTube channel every other day during the week – but on Fridays things get even freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
The Friday Fright Night feature we have for you this week is called An English Haunting – which doesn’t leave much question as to what sort of movie this might be. Of course it’s a haunted house movie. And this isn’t always a horror sub-genre that I get much enjoyment out of, because shots of creaky doors swinging open by themselves don’t do anything for me.

Joel Schumacher's 1997 film "Batman & Robin" is a large, clunky, over-designed nightmare. In his two-star review, Roger Ebert referred to the film as resembling "an art-deco garbage disposal," and there often appears to be a consensus that it remains, to this day, one of the worst comic book movies ever made. Director Schumacher has even gone on record apologizing to anyone who might have felt disappointed by his film.
"Batman & Robin," while following the same Batman continuity that began in 1989 with Tim Burton's "Batman," couldn't be farther from the original. Burton's film took visual cues from 1930s German expressionism film, and was shot using shadows and steam. "Batman & Robin" looks like a Las Vegas dance spectacular, rife with bright colors, swirling lights, and neon tubing. Even the film's central villain, Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger), has glittery silver skin, a glowing blue mouth, and a busy, light-up suit of armor.

The Batman 2 needs to avoid a key similarity with Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. The Batman introduced Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight in his second year of fighting crime in Gotham City. In Matt Reeves's story, The Batman also takes a deeper dive into the detective side of Batman than arguably any previous cinematic incarnation, with Batman in a battle of wits against the Riddler (Paul Dano).
The Batman serves as the launching pad for Matt Reeves Batman universe, which will encompass HBO Max spin-off shows like the Penguin series along with The Batman 2 continuing its story on the big screen. However, while the ending of The Batman sets up a new battle to save Gotham in The Batman 2, it also creates some potential similarities with the story of The Dark Knight Rises. This means that The Batman 2 will need to tailor its story to be...

The DC Animated Universe builds a shared universe involving DC animated shows and movies when watching the Dcau movies in order. While the concept of a shared universe became popular on the big screen thanks to the MCU, DC already saw its characters and storylines crossing over from one TV show to another since the late '90s. The crossovers between the Batman and Superman animated series led to the production of Justice League, and a full-fledged animated universe featuring DC's biggest heroes and villains like Darkseid was created.
Also known as the "Timmverse," the creators masterfully translated the DC universe from comics to TV, inspired by stories like Grant Morrison's Justice League of America and classic tales from DC's history. The Dcau also created original characters like Harley Quinn and Terry McGinnis. While watching the Dcau movies in order is not a bad choice, watching them in chronological...
