They also find themselves at odds with their Lgbtq+ friends back in the city as they’re accused of trying to become a nuclear-ish family.

Patrick Rea, of Nailbiter fame, has completed a horror short, titled "Howl of a Good Time." The film will debut at HorrorHound Cincinnati on March 21st. The film notably stars Tamara Glynn (Halloween 5) and Leslie Easterbrook. And recently, a trailer was released for the film. That clip can be found below. Getting stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but doing so with a bunch of senior citizens? You can be sure filmmaker Patrick Rea piles on the spooky - plus a little silly - in this teaser for his "It's Hell Getting Old" segment of the Hellevator Man anthology.

Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.

The prolific Patrick Rea (Nailbiter) has released a new short film, and we have info on that along with two other projects he has in the works: Enclosure and Get Back Joe.

Rea's new short film, titled “Vindicate,” stars Michael Joiner and Aaron Laue and is part of the Kansas City-based web series Withered World. The web series, created by Bryce Young, is set on the last day of the Earth with each episode showing a different story by separate directors. "Vindicate," written and directed by Rea, follows a man who seeks revenge for the death of his family while the world is a ticking clock.

Ever have one of those days where the universe just relentlessly takes one big steaming dump on you after another? From our character’s perspective, that’s Nailbiter in a nutshell.

Sure, all horror movies deliver characters in terrifying and evil scenarios, but Patrick Rea, director of 25 some odd shorts, and writer Kendal Sinn really just kick their spotlighted family every chance they’re down, starting simply with showing an alcoholic mother questioning the sobriety she’s been working towards for gosh knows how long. Such an insignificant detail once the tornadoes and horror kick in, but we watch as the low-blows keep snowballing into one gigantic rolling ball of despair.

In Nailbiter, Rea has crafted a tense and curiously inviting thriller in which the Maguire family are forced to take shelter in the basement of the nearest house when a tornado touches down in hot pursuit of their speeding car.

Nailbiter is only writer/director Patrick Rea’s second feature film, but he’s already an accomplished filmmaker, having directed somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 shorts. I’ve seen many of his short films and they are nothing short of amazing, with Nailbiter being no exception. This indie film admittedly has a limited budget, but you couldn’t tell that by watching the film. The movie is so slick and well-made; it would be very easy to mistake it for a big-budget Hollywood production.

As someone that lives in the Midwest, I know first-hand how utterly terrifying tornadoes can be. Rea combines the fear that a ravaging tornado brings with something much more sinister.

The Hourglass Figure was written by Michelle Davidson and Amber Rapp and stars Davidson and Brian Paulette. The short is about a mother who’s overwhelmed with housework and raising children. She finds an hourglass in her attic that gives her an extra hour in her day, but it comes with dangerous consequences.

Rea and Co. have another short, a dark comedy called Split the Check, in post-production and are currently touring Nailbiter at additional film festivals before its spring release from Grindstone Entertainment and Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Next up for Nailbiter is a screening at the New York City Horror Film Festival on November 8th.

Shriekfest 2012 was a huge success! Denise Gossett, festival director, hosted Shriekfest October 4th-7th at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. Shriekfest screened almost 40 films and had 30 screenplay finalists and 10 original song finalists. Read on for the winners.

Last May "Elvira's Horror Hunt" began searching for features and shorts to be screened at the September HorrorHound Weekend with grand prize winners to be announced by Elvira herself during the con. Seven features and 13 shorts have been selected, and we have all the details here.

SenoReality Pictures and Ministry Machine Productions have announced that Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired their feature film Nailbiter for North America to be released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

The award-winning horror-thriller has screened at such festivals as the Palm Beach International Film Festival, Omaha Film Festival, AMC Kansas City Film Fest, and Chicago Fear Fest. It recently won Best Feature, Best Director, and Best of the Fest at Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Kentucky. The film will be screening at the Dragon*Con Independent Film Festival, which runs August 31st-September 3rd.

Nailbiter (review here) tells the story of a mother and her three daughters (Erin McGrane, Meg Saricks, Emily Boresow, Sally Spurgeon), who are on their way to the airport to pick up their father when they are caught up in a Kansas tornado. The family members are forced to take shelter in a seemingly innocent storm cellar but are trapped inside.

This film is this reviewer's first exposure to SenoReality's style of filmmaking and the wait has been worth it. Nailbiter is a production that, while indie, manages to develop a terrifying story. That story shows some influences from the later "Twilight Zone" (1985) television series, "Outer Limits" (1995) and perhaps even the more recent "X-Files" (1993). There is something bizarre and foreboding in that approaching tornado! And the Maguire family must seek shelter before it touches...

Part of the fun of Texas Frightmare Weekend comes from experiencing the new voices in independent cinema. Patrick Rea's movie Nailbiter serves as a great example of this. Before directing and co-writing his first feature, Rea has made a name for himself writing and directing award-winning short films, including Time's Up, Eve and Get Off My Porch. His writing and his meticulous work behind the camera put him ahead of his peers.

When writing Nailbiter, Rea and co-writer Kendal Sinn start by playing off our natural fear of Mother Nature. A family traveling through the Midwest becomes stranded in a random basement by a tornado. Immediately, we find that not all is well as a mysterious creature and a dark secret are attacking family members, one by one.
