Jeymes Samuel will not direct Blade for Marvel Studios. The Book of Clarence filmmaker has debunked a recent report claiming that he had met with Marvel about directing the upcoming superhero reboot.

"I dont know where these rumors start, but I am not in talks to do Blade with Marvel. I love me the Daywalker tho, I cannot wait to watch that joint," Samuel wrote on the social media platform X. Reports of the filmmaker being in line to direct Blade emerged at the end of September 2024. Whoever does end up signing on for Blade will become the third director attached to the long-gestating project, which was announced back at Marvel Studios' 2019 San Diego Comic-Con panel. Bassim Tariq and Yann Demange were previously attached to direct Blade at one point, but both departed over creative differences in September 2022 and June 2024, respectively.

Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.

To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).

The highly discussed music limited series “The Idol” is set to premiere on Max on June 4. Starring Lily-Rose Depp, pop singer The Weeknd, and Dan Levy, the show involves a rising pop star Jocelyn (played by Depp) who gets involved with Tedros (The Weeknd), a sleazy nightclub owner who may also be a cult leader. She wants a rock career, while he’s focused on exploiting everyone he meets.

Michael Starrbury continues his collaboration with Netflix as he inks a multi-year overall deal with the streamer to develop new series programming.

Starrbury received an Emmy nomination for writing “Part Four” of Netflix’s When They See Us with Ava DuVernay in 2019 and will work with the director and Colin Kaepernick for Colin In Black & White.

Starring Jaden Michael as a young Kaepernick, Colin In Black & White will provide an introspective look at Kaepernick’s adolescent years as a Black teen growing up with a white adopted family. It was previously announced that Jaden Michael will star as Colin Kaepernick during his formative high school years. Kaepernick and DuVernay created and executive produce the series alongside Starrbury, who writes the six-episode project.

ABC Signature has hired Starz programming exec Susan Lewis as SVP and head of drama development, replacing Patrick Maguire at the recently restructured studio.

In her new role, Lewis will head the label’s drama team and report to Tracy Underwood, EVP of creative affairs for ABC Signature, beginning Aug. 31. The studio, led by president Jonnie Davis, is the result of a merger between ABC Studios and ABC Signature, as part of an overall restructuring and re-naming at Disney Television Studios earlier this month.

Former drama head Maguire, who has been with the company for almost two decades, is leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Lewis will officially join the studio on Aug. 31 and will report to Tracy Underwood. She takes over the role from Patrick Maguire, who exited the studio amid the recent restructuring that saw ABC Studios and ABC Signature combine under the ABC Signature banner as part of Disney Television Studios.

ABC Signature, the recently rebranded production division that includes ABC Studios, has hired Starz’ Susan Lewis as its new head of drama development.

Lewis, who was SVP, Original Programming at the premium pay-tv network, joins on August 31 and will head the label’s drama team, reporting to Executive Vice President Tracy Underwood.

She replaces Patrick Maguire, who was promoted to SVP of drama development under former ABC Studios President Patrick Moran in September 2018. Maguire, who has been at Disney, ABC and ABC Studios in various roles since 2002, is understood to be considering other opportunities.

It’s a brand new month, and though it might seem like all hope is lost for 2020, at least streaming services have kept us occupied with plenty of stuff to watch. And like most platforms, Amazon Prime is dropping a ton of new movies on day one of July so that you can fill up your list and stay glued to your television. Not every flick releasing today is a winner, but you’re likely to find at least a handful of things you’re going to be dying to see.

For starters, Buried is an underrated Ryan Reynolds thriller launching on the service today, and if you can manage to sit through an hour and a half of a film that takes place entirely within a coffin, you’ll find a hell of a riveting experience. This extraordinarily tense pic tells the story of an American civilian truck driver...

As we get deeper into the summer, entertainment offerings are bound to start slimming – particularly in this pandemic era. Perhaps there’s no greater example of the oncoming drought than Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2020.

Though the new options may be few and far between on Amazon this month, at least they pack a bit of a punch. In the case of Hanna season 2, that punch is quite literal. Esme Creed-Miles returns as the titular precocious super soldier. You can check out our review here. Beyond that, there are two intriguing Amazon original movies. The first is the Rosamund Pike-starring Radioactive and that arrives on July 24. Then there is the Dave Bautista film My Spy on July 26.

With HBO Max now on the scene, Amazon Prime is sure to lose some of its library titles. That can already be seen in the relatively sparse offerings for July.

With June drawing to a close, it’s time to look ahead to July. For Amazon Prime subscribers, next month brings a huge influx of new content, including a variety of movies both classic and underrated, as well as Amazon Original films and TV series.

Amazon is out with its list of everything new coming to the streaming service in July.

New Amazon Originals include the second seasons of “Hanna” and “Absentia.” The 2019 Marie Curie biopic starring Rosamund Pike, “Radioactive,” is also coming, as a new comedy special from Jim Gaffigan called “Jim Gaffigan: Pale Tourist.”

Other existing movies that are being added include “Big Fish,” “Megamind,” “Pineapple Express” “Hitch,” “Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” “Vivarium,” and “The Weekend.”

Highlights include season three of “90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days” and season one of “90 Day Fiance: The Other Way: Complete Season 1,” as well as some classic movies like “The Color Purple” and “Best in Show,” all coming July 1.

Exclusive: Oscar winner John Ridley has signed on to write, direct and executive produce an untitled musical drama for Showtime, which has received a straight-to-series order. On the project, originally announced in July with a series commitment, he joins executive producers Alicia Keys and Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land). Pasek and Paul also will contribute music to the series, produced by Fox 21 Television Studios. Marc Platt (La La Land), R.J. Cutler and Adam Siegel also executive produce.

The as-yet untitled series, which centers on an emotionally complex family story that spans generations and threatens the fabric of the community in present-day Milwaukee, will be written and directed by Milwaukee native Ridley.

The American Crime creator, who began conversations with Showtime and Fox 21 about the show in the fall, succeeds original writer Kyle Jarrow. Ridley reshaped the series, which was originally set in modern-day and 1959 Detroit.

There’s music in the air for Showtime. The premium cable network has made a series commitment to a yet-to-be-titled musical drama series executive produced by Alicia Keys, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The series, which will be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, “traverses generations to tell an emotionally complex family story that interweaves modern-day and 1959 Detroit, centering on a mystery uncovered by a young musician who moves back to her childhood home,” according to the network.

Pasek and Paul, the songwriting team behind “La La Land,” “The Greatest Showman” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” will contribute music to the series. “The SpongeBob Musical’s” Kyle Jarrow will write and executive produce. New Line has purchased a comedy pitch, “The Come Up,” an original story from “Sorry to Bother You” co-star Jermaine Fowler, Variety has learned. Fowler, who also stars in “Superior Donuts,” will star and also serve as executive producer.

Los Angeles, Sep 9: Actress Jennifer Hudson says she has never consumed alcohol or drugs in her life. This made it hard for her to play a heroin addict in a movie.

The 31-year-old, who is acting as a heroin addict in a new movie "The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete", found it difficult to connect with the role, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"It terrified me to play that part because I had no reference point. I'm 31 and I've never, ever, ever had a drink or done a drug in my entire life," Manhattan magazine quoted Hudson as saying.

"I stick with Diet Coke and Crystal Light and water," she added.

Jennifer Hudson is transformed into a Disney princess in a magical new photo shoot by Annie Leibovitz.

The Oscar-winning singer and actress dressed up as Princess Tiana from 2009's The Princess and the Frog for the latest 'Disney Dream Portrait'.

The picture, titled 'Where you always follow your heart', was commissioned by Disney Parks for its ongoing celebrity advertising campaign which debuted in 2007.

Disney has also released behind-the-scenes photos of Hudson holding and kissing her "lil frog" David Otunga Jr, 4.

"This is my fav pix from the Disney princess shoot !" she wrote on Instagram. "Such an honour Disney !"
