This Chevy Chase Sponsored Instagram Post Is Sadder Than Getting Denied at Wally World
Image
It’s not like Chevy Chase hasn’t taken the money and ran like the wind in recent years. He’s been shilling the low-rent “35th Anniversary Christmas Vacation Legacy Box Limited Edition” on his Instagram account, selling scraps of old SNL costumes on his website and cashing checks for quick cameos in low-budget movies like The Christmas Letter.

But his latest cash grab is somehow sadder, mainly because he no longer seems up to the task. In an Instagram Reel posted earlier today, Chase is selling the virtues of Kalahari Resorts, a loose network of indoor waterparks located in cold-weather locations around the Midwest.

Fair enough. The Chase brand is certainly associated with vacations. But what can we make of this home (I’m guessing home — he sure didn’t take it at the Kalahari) video in which the SNL veteran needs half a dozen jump cuts to sputter...

'He Was a Complete Jerk': Home Alone Director Rejected Christmas Vacation After Meeting Chevy Chase
Image
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation remains one of the most beloved holiday comedies ever made, though stories have since emerged about the alleged difficulties of working with star Chevy Chase. For his part, director Chris Columbus, who was originally set to direct the classic film, can still remember his own experience he had with Chase, which led to the filmmaker exiting the project.

In an interview with Empire Magazine (per Screen Rant), Columbus shared how Christmas Vacation seemed like a promising project for him at the start. He'd even started shooting some of the establishing shots to be used for the film. However, after he met Chase, Columbus' interest in working on the project dwindled dramatically, and he chose to walk away. However, as Columbus explained, it worked out for the best, as an offer for a certain other holiday classic came his way very quickly thereafter.

But now, it has been 35 years since its release. And a lot can change within that span of time—careers grow and fall, people retire and some even tragically pass away. So let’s check out where the cast of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is now.

Where Is the Cast of 'Christmas Vacation' 35 Years Later?
Image
With the yuletide season in full swing, one movie that will be played repeatedly throughout many households during the holidays is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The third entry in the Vacation movie franchise turns 35 years old this December and still holds up as one of the most amusing and rewatchable Christmas comedies of all time.

Instead of traveling cross-country to Wally World, overseas to Europe, or Las Vegas to experience Sin City, what sets Christmas Vacation apart is witnessing the Griswolds at home in their Chicago element while hosting several family members for the holidays. As such, there's no better gift than catching up with the Griswolds and finding out what those still alive are up to in 2024 and beyond.

Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid’s Reunion May Not Be What ‘Christmas Vacation’ Fans Were Hoping For
Image
For a lot of folks, it’s become tradition to spend the holiday season watching Clark Griswold celebrate with his family/suffer several traumatic brain injuries in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It’s like a modern It’s a Wonderful Life, if George Bailey didn’t have a Guardian Angel and was constantly fantasizing about cheating on Mary.

Christmas Vacation fans were no doubt thrilled to learn that two of the film’s most memorable (and affordable) stars were set to appear in another Christmas-themed family comedy. Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid teamed up once again for The Christmas Letter, which, as we’ve mentioned before, is about an “unemployed copywriter” who tries to compete with his wealthy friend’s “over-the-top Christmas letter.”

The film’s producer claimed that the movie is a “a fun nod to classics like Christmas Vacation.” In addition to Chase and Quaid, it also features Brian Doyle-Murray,...

Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid Reunite For New Festive Movie 35 Years After National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Image
Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid reunite for holiday comedy, The Christmas Letter - a nostalgia trip for fans of Christmas Vacation. The directorial debut of Tori Hunter, The Christmas Letter stars Chase, Quaid, and revolves around a copywriter's quest to outdo a wealthy friend. While Chase has been active post-Christmas Vacation, Quaid's return to screens after legal issues makes The Christmas Letter a potential career revival.

Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid will be hoping to rekindle some festive movie magic as they reunite for the new holiday comedy, The Christmas Letter. The pair most memorably worked together 35 years ago in the classic National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, with Chase portraying the head of the Griswald family, Clark, and Quaid playing Cousin Eddie. While their new movie is not linked to the Vacation movies in any way, the reunion does have a certain nostalgic quality about it for fans.

Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid Reunite for New Christmas Comedy
Image
The Christmas Letter, a holiday comedy, reunites Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid. Both starred in the 1989 film National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, and they will reunite on screen for a new holiday film.

Deadline reports that The Christmas Letter centers on an unemployed copywriter who annually receives a boastful Christmas letter from his affluent friend, a letter that consistently makes him feel inadequate. Fed up with being outshone and desperate to change his fortunes, he risks everything to provide his family with a vacation worthy of a brag-filled Christmas letter, aiming to finally outdo his wealthy nemesis.

Related Why Chris Columbus Refused to Direct National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

Before Chris Columbus hopped on the Harry Potter franchise, he refused to direct National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and instead joined Home Alone.

Written by Michael Cunningham, the flick is produced by Benfield and Michael Cunningham. Daniel Hegel, Ruth Benfield, Gato Scatena, and Jordan Rosner served as executive producers.
