There's a running joke online about Netflix canceling an amazing new series after just one season, while the streamer-turned-production studio spends millions every couple of years on the latest season of Stranger Things or Big Mouth. While fans once had one or two examples to throw at Netflix when making the argument, we're opening Pandora's Box, as new data has confirmed what we all knew about the monolith of streaming services. TV shows get canceled all the time, mainly due to poor ratings or excessive costs that cannot be maintained in the long-run. But, especially in 2024, Netflix had a habit of canceling some of their best new shows.
According to data from Watch In America, Netflix culled the most original programming of any streamer, or network in general, last year. The study counted new and ongoing shows that Netflix either canceled outright, or renewed for final seasons last year. 16 shows were properly canceled last year,...

Now that 2024 has come to a close, it’s official, Netflix once again handed out the most cancellations in the calendar year – though at this point, I don’t think anyone will find this surprising. While the streaming platform has gotten better as the years have gone by in giving shows final seasons and the chances to establish themselves with audiences, the streaming platform continues to have some of the biggest cancellation rates in the business and 2024 was no different.
In total, Netflix canceled 16 shows in 2024 while also handing six additional shows their walking papers with final season orders which are about as close to cancellations as you can get the only difference being that those lucky six shows will get to actually wrap up their runs with proper sendoffs. So when you combine the two groups, Netflix decided to end a whopping 22 shows in 2024 be it by canceling them directly or ordering final seasons.

The National Labor Review Board’s decision this week to classify “Love Is Blind” contestants as employees marks an unprecedented move by the federal government to weigh in on how Hollywood deals with unscripted talent. But Donald Trump’s second presidential term could stifle any hope of a reality television revolution.
The efforts by Hollywood power lawyers Mark Geragos and Bryan Freedman — self-proclaimed champions of a “reality TV reckoning” that has yet to materialize — seemed significant after the regional Nlrb office in Minnesota filed a complaint against production companies Delirium TV and Kinetic Content. In it, they say the companies committed several labor violations, including incorporating restrictive noncompete and confidentiality clauses into talent contracts.
Classifying cast members of the hit Netflix series as employees would give them protections against such restrictions.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans were shocked in 2023 when it was reported that star Kyle Richards and her husband Mauricio Umanksy had split after 27 years of marriage.
This came after months of speculation and an exclusive report from People. It appears the news went public before Kyle and Mauricio had time to address their split with their four daughters.
Kyle and Mauricio wed in 1996 and have four daughters: Alexia, Sophia, and Portia. Kyle has another daughter, Farrah, from a previous marriage, although she grew up considering Mauricio a father figure. The four girls have frequently appeared on Rhobh throughout the years and more recently starred on Netflix's Buying Beverly Hills.
Hours after the news broke of their split, the couple released a joint statement on social media denying that they planned to divorce despite having “a rough year.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is giving viewers everything they’ve ever wanted this season.
For the first time in a long time, no conversation is off the table, and the women are baring their souls to restore the series’ authenticity.
Kyle Richards’ ongoing separation from Mauricio Umansky is a significant theme in the initial episodes, but at least 13 more episodes of drama are on the horizon.
During Tuesday’s new episode, Erika Jayne, Kathy Hilton, and Sutton Stracke showed up uninvited to Kyle’s home to throw a pajama party to help lift her spirits.
Kyle was in a bit of a funk amid the changes in her personal life and her simmering feud with Dorit Kemsley, so the pick-me-up from her friends and family allowed her to speak freely about her life.
However, Kathy quickly pointed out that Mauricio, who is 54, has aged since the split.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14 came in hot for the premiere.
It seems the ladies of Beverly Hills are not taking their foot off the gas all season, either.
As Monsters and Critics reported, a preview for Rhobh featured Dorit Kemsley shutting down Kyle Richards during their fight at Sutton Stracke’s party.
The former friends are at each other’s throats instead of supporting each other as they deal with their marriages imploding.
Kyle doesn’t just have drama with Dorit in Episode 2 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14.
There’s a bit of a sister squabble because it wouldn’t be Rhobh without Kathy Hilton and Kyle taking jabs.

Consider Selling Sunset and all its drama off the market! Following the popular real estate reality series' most recent eighth season in September 2024, a new season is already on the way. According to series star Amanza Smith, Netflix has renewed the reality series for season 9.
"And we're back," Smith wrote on Instagram. "Who's ready for Season 9?" The star captioned a video of her walking in a black leather dress with gloves and boots, what appears to be a white piano handbag, and a slicked back long ponytail while on set. Season 9 appears to be in production!
As previously mentioned, Selling Sunset season 8 premiered earlier this fall on Sept. 6 with 11 brand-new episodes that definitely brought the drama fans have come to crave. Between Alanna's claims that she owns Pioneertown and the rumors spread about Emma, it was quite the season.

Anyone who’s seen Buying Beverly Hills knows Mauricio Umansky well. The hard-working realtor was making waves on Netflix for two seasons starting in 2022. Beyond that, it’s also easy to recognize him from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. However, Mauricio‘s reality TV presence isn’t exactly a factor right now because he’s facing a serious issue regarding his father. Mauricio’s dad, Eduardo Umansky, allegedly just went through something terrible with his girlfriend. It has caused Mauricio to seek conservatorship over Edwardo. These are the details.
Was Mauricio Umansky‘s Father Abused?
According to In Touch Weekly, Eduardo’s past romantic relationship was a toxic one. He dated a woman for the last 22 years, but she might not have had his best interest this entire time. Since Mauricio wants to see his father loved and taken care of, he’s jumping into action to make a drastic change.

Netflix’s latest data dump has given more insight into its decision-making process when it comes to renewals and cancellations.
While the streamer has always said those decisions come down to performance vs. cost, its third What We Watched report is beginning to crystallize what some of the thresholds are for various genres, as well as what “performance” means to Netflix beyond just raw viewership numbers.
Obliterated and Dead Boy Detectives were the two shows to get the axe this year that drew the most views from January to June, though it was clearly not enough to keep either show alive.
Obliterated was No. 1 among cancelled shows, tallying 13.3M views in the first half of the year, coming in 83rd for all titles. The show was released at the end of November 2023, and it accumulated 27M views through the end of December, which actually put it among Netflix’s Top...

Selling Sunset Season 8 was one of the most dramatic seasons of the Netflix hit, featuring shifting cast dynamics, relationship-ending bombshells, and a cliffhanger that must be addressed.
While reunion episodes of the show have aired sporadically, Selling Sunset Season 8 is the only season that deserves one.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until Selling Sunset Season 9 for more from our favorite Oppenheim Group realtors because the cast will not be assembled before then.
Variety first reported the shocking news, which is a bummer for Selling Sunset’s passionate fan base.

Unscripted real estate television series traditionally welcome viewers into seemingly unblemished homes. There’s no peeling paint, mismatched furniture or structural issues. Instead, residences get a glow up — as does the buying and selling process. Much like “The Bachelor” franchise’s heavily produced search for love staged for maximum drama, reality real estate shows feature gloss (Celebratory champagne open houses and closings! Designer interiors! Stunning architecture! Fashion-plate agents!) minus airtime for the unsexy, less visually appealing nuts-and-bolts of negotiations and financing.

Selling Sunset Season 8 pulled no punches and sent the storylines in different directions.
Through 11 episodes, we watched the ladies of the Oppenheim Group sell beautiful houses and get immersed in much drama.
For Chelsea Lazkani, the season was profoundly personal after she learned midway through that someone had spotted her husband with another woman at the W hotel.

Bad news for fans of Netflix's real estate reality series universe: A fan-favorite title was just put on the market. Unfortunately, Buying Beverly Hills was canceled by Netflix after two seasons. Don't let the "on the market" pun fool you, though. The series isn't being shopped to another streamer or network.
Buying Beverly Hills first made its premiere on Netflix in November 2022 and returned for its much more dramatic and talked about second season in March 2024. The real estate series followed the personal and professional life of Mauricio Umansky and his staff and fellow real estate agents at The Agency.
In season 2, the series traced the dramas in Umansky's split from Real Housewives star and Halloween actress Kyle Richards. The series also starred three of their four daughters, Farrah Brittany and Alexia Umansky, who work with Mauricio at The Agency, with Sophia Umanksy joining in season 2.

Well, this is a shocker.
Netflix has pulled the plug on Buying Beverly Hills after two seasons.
Deadline broke the news, revealing that the decision was driven by the show’s viewership versus the cost of production.
This news is somewhat surprising, considering the increased focus on Mauricio Umansky’s personal life for Season 2, including his widely publicized separation from Kyle Richards.
Netflix upped the promotional campaign for its second season, featuring aspects of the storyline that were not shown on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
While the show did have an audience, focusing on the headline-making drama didn’t get the traction Netflix expected.
Buying Beverly Hills’ existence was a surprise, considering the streaming service already had Selling Sunset and its wide array of spinoffs.

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to renew Buying Beverly Hills for a third season. The news comes months after the show’s second season premiered in March.
The unscripted series, which premiered in 2022, centered around Mauricio Umansky and his staff at The Agency, which included his daughters Farrah Brittany and Alexia Umansky.
Sources say the cancellation had to do with the viewing numbers versus the cost of production.

Season 2 of Buying Beverly Hills leaned into the real-life drama between Umansky and his marriage to Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards. Umansky openly discussed his marital troubles on camera, and the Netflix series also featured several appearances of Richards.

More money, more problems. That seems to be the motto of Netflix’s brand new competition series, in which one contestant is saddled with a $1 million prize as the other 11 players fight to hunt them down and claim it for themselves.
The series, with the working title “Million Dollar Secret,” will be hosted by Peter Serafinowicz, the British comedian and actor whose credits include “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Shaun of the Dead,” “John Wick: Chapter 2” and “Spy.”
Here’s how the competition works, in Netflix’s own words: “The million-dollar prize is won by one of 12 players right at the start of the first episode. Too soon and they become the target; too late and they may never get the money. Meanwhile, the millionaire can try to...

The reality show, which is now seven seasons in, centers on the lives of agents at the Oppenheim Group, a high-end real estate brokerage firm in Los Angeles. Not only has it proved to be a massive success, but it’s also created a whole new subgenre for Netflix: luxury real estate reality shows. In addition to Selling Sunset, there’s spin-offs Selling the O.C. and Selling Tampa, as well as shows of a similar flavor like Million Dollar Beach House and Buying Beverly Hills.
