The Death and Return of Superman

Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
Black Suit Superman Scenes Were Shot for Justice League
Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
Yes, Superman in his black suit was filmed for Justice League. The question has finally been answered, but we're probably never going to see the footage. Justice League was released last month to mixed response from critics and fans, but a lot of that has to do with the clashing visions between Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon, who was brought in to do rewrites, reshoots and see the movie through the editing process. That meant a lot of Snyder's vision wound up on the cutting room floor. Including Superman's black suit.

Fabian Wagner, who was the cinematographer on Justice League, recently revealed that, indeed, they filmed scenes with Henry Cavill in the black Superman suit from the comics. There are many things that didn't make the final cut of Justice League, but this is one that fans were really looking forward to so, knowing that the footage is out there...

Superman Black Suit, Resurrection Confirmed in Justice League Apparel?
Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
We now have even more, pretty compelling evidence that Superman is going to sport his classic black suit in Justice League. Actually, with this factored in, if Superman doesn't suit up in his black gear, it will be nothing shy of a disappointment. In any case, a new hat, of all things, seems to confirm that the black suit is going to appear in Justice League. Not only that, but it details how the suit will factor in, as well as possible details on the Superman's resurrection in the movie.

Warning: possible spoilers ahead for Justice League. A new Superman hat was recently listed on Superhero Stuff that mirrors Superman's black suit from The Death and Return of Superman storyline. The timing itself is pretty telling, considering Justice League comes out on November 17, but it's the description for the product provided by the website that really makes it seem as...

Superman's Black Suit Confirmed in Justice League Toy Leak?
Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
Henry Cavill is going to make his return as Superman in Justice League come November 17, but it has yet to be revealed as to exactly how that is going to happen. Despite that, he is indeed going to be in the movie and it looks like he is going to be bringing some new threads with him. If some new toys that have made their way online are any indication, it looks like we could see Superman rocking his famous black suit in Justice League.

An image of some upcoming Mattel action figures for Justice League has made the rounds on Reddit recently. The image features headshots of the major characters from the movie and their upcoming action figures. At the bottom right, we see Superman in a black suit. Granted, toys don't always depict screen-accurate versions of character costumes,. When Batman V Superman came out, there was an action...

‘Christmas Spirit, Activated’: Henry Cavill Shows Off Super Strength with Christmas Tree
Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… Santa Claus!

Man of Steel star Henry Cavill showed off his Superman-strength on Friday, holding up a Rockefeller Center-sized Christmas tree with one hand.

The actor, 33, put his muscles to the test for the photo — which he captioned “Is this really he biggest tree you’ve got?”

Wearing a jeans, and army green hat, and a black DC Comics T-shirt, Cavill looks as if he’s here to save the world and Christmas. He added the hashtags “ChristmasSpiritActivated” and “#GotElves.”

American Werewolf Remake Moves Forward with Director Max Landis
Max Landis
Hollywood is about to remake another classic, but this time they are keeping it in the family. According to a new report, prolific screenwriter Max Landis is set to write and direct a remake of the classic horror/comedy An American Werewolf In London. His father John Landis wrote and directed the original and this time, he will serve as an executive producer.

The news comes courtesy of Deadline who claim that The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is also set to produce the movie through his Skybound Entertainment production company for Universal. Max Landis did indirectly address the report on Twitter shortly after the news broke, saying that he couldn't add any further details on the project, but also that the story had "multiple factual errors" in it. It isn't clear if he was talking about this Deadline report for sure, but here is what he had to say.

Superman's Black Suit Revealed in New Justice League Video?
Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
Justice League has wrapped shooting in the U.K. and director Zack Snyder recently shared a behind-the-scenes video showcasing a ton of action from the set of the movie. Spoilers for anyone who didn't see Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but Superman died fighting Doomsday in that movie. However, this video proves he is very much alive in Justice League. Also, he seems to rocking his black suit.

Zack Snyder posted the video to his Twitter account earlier today and there is a lot going on it. Those who watched the video closely will probably have noticed that Henry Cavill was on set in his traditional Superman suit, meaning he is definitely coming back to life in Justice League, which we pretty much already assumed. What is more interesting is that in another shot from the video, it looks like Superman will indeed be rocking his black suit from the comics.

Superman's Iconic Spit Curl Returns in Justice League Set Photo
Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in Justice League (2017)
Earlier this week, Justice League star Henry Cavill teased a black superman suit, which many believe will be accompanied by the iconic DC Comics mullet. But the Man of Steel was seen rocking a much more traditional look in recent set photos. In fact, the actor has such a pronounced Spit Curl, he almost looks like he stepped directly out of the 1950s.

This doesn't mean the black Superman suit won't show up in director Zack Snyder's follow-up to Batman V Superman. As most know by now, Kal-El died in the big Dawn of Justice climax as he battled Doomsday to the death. Superman will return in Justice League, and apparently he'll be showing off a few different looks.

In the original The Death and Return of Superman comic book storyline, Clark Kent's more famous alter ego perished, only to return in a black suit with long, jet black mullet hair,...

Henry Cavill Teases Superman’s Black Suit in Justice League
It looks like Henry Cavill will be sporting a black Superman suit in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie. Even though the character seemingly died at the end of Batman v Superman at the hands of Doomsday, we all knew he was going to be coming back. We’re just not sure how his resurrection is going to take place in the Dceu.

Snyder previously teased that he would return with long hair, and now Cavill teases the black suit he’ll be wearing in a photo he posted on Instagram. This suggests that his return will be influenced by The Death and Return of Superman comic book story arc, which was published back in the early '90s.

In that storyline, when Superman was brought back to life he had a black costume and long hair. In the comics, after Superman was killed, he was restored in a regeneration...

Eisenberg & Stewart on First Two Smokin' Posters for 'American Ultra'
Wowza. I don't know how the MPAA let them get away with this, but awesome, let me say that. I'm guessing the lack of any cigarette/joint makes all the difference. Two new posters and a first look photo have debuted for American Ultra, the new film from a script by Max Landis (of Chronicle, The Death and Return of Superman) directed by Nima Nourizadeh. Actor Jesse Eisenberg plays a stoner named Mike who, along with Kristen Stewart as his girlfriend, it turns out is a sleeper agent, and the government is trying to eliminate him. They definitely both look like stoners, with Eisenberg donning a wig, and Stewart dying her hair for the part, the only thing that really is missing is a joint. Take a look at all the new images below. Your first look at American Ultra from MTV, showing Jesse Eisenberg as Mike + Kristen Stewart as...

Watch: Max Landis Announces Death and Return Of Superman Sequel ‘Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling’
Max Landis
In 2012, Screenwriter Max Landis (Chronicle, and upcoming American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein) released a short film called The Death and Return of Superman which starred Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Ron Howard, Chris Hardwick, Simon Pegg and more. The short, described as “an educational parody,” told the hilarious, literal, insider version what happened in 1992 when DC Comics decided to kill, then […]

Max Landis Intends To Pitch Wonder Woman To Warner Bros.
Max Landis is best known in the comic book community for writing Chronicle, a film that was very well received among many comic fans, and for directing The Death And Return Of Superman, a 2011 short. In a recent Reddit Ama, Landis fielded a ton of questions about comics, comic book movies, and superheroes, with a few interesting answers scattered throughout, including some exciting information about a Wonder Woman movie.

One very interesting answer revealed some mystery project that it sounds like Landis has coming up. One user asked: “If you could do a reboot of any character, TV show or film what would it be? And what would you do with it?” Landis replied with a short, cryptic “You’ll know sooner than you think.” That could be a reference to the still untitled Frankenstein project he’s working on, but it seems like if that was the case he would’ve just said so,...

Max Landis to make a superhero pitch to Warner Bros.
I am fully aware that I write most of the Max Landis articles on this site. This is purely coincidental as they seem to drop on my shift. What I will say about my own opinion towards Landis is that he seems rather passionate about comics, has some interesting ideas, and is a good writer thus far. Landis might be responsible for Chronicle but people might associate him more with The Death And Return Of Superman. While Chronicle dealt with superhuman powers, Landis wants a piece of something...

Development Hell: Why We Didn’t Get a Superman Movie From 1988 to 2006
Few franchises have crashed and burned as spectacularly as the Superman films, which reached their nadir with 1987’s fourth installment, The Quest for Peace, which grossed barely a tenth the box office of Richard Donner’s classic origin story a decade earlier. Superman’S Diminishing Returns Superman (1978) $134M Superman II (1980) $108M Superman III (1983) $60M Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) $15M With Tim Burton’s dark, gritty Batman demolishing box office records in 1989, Warner Bros. had no reason to think audiences would respond to the brighter, more colorful Man of Steel mythos – at least, not until 1992, when DC Comics’ bestselling “The Death and Return of Superman” cycle put The Daily Planet’s most famous reporter back on the front page. In the comics (later turned into a 2007 animated film, Superman: Doomsday), Superman is killed by a creature called Doomsday, before being resurrected after a three-month publishing hiatus which became a publicity magnet. Deciding...

Max Landis Makes Directorial Debut With Sexual Identity Comedy Me Him Her
After enabled the superpowers to three high school friends, Max Landis will next fuel his new young leads with sex, love and friendship in ‘the weirdest, most surreal way possible.’

The co-writer for Chronicle (with Josh Trank), son of filmmaker John Landis will make his feature directing debut with the sexual-identity comedy called Me Him Her.

He also made a name for himself launching the viral video The Death and Return of Superman and being attached to a number of other writing projects.

Now comes word that an indie comedy called Me Him Her written by him as well, is about three young leads, ‘at least one of whom is struggling with their sexuality.’ The so-called ‘quarter-life-crisis’ story takes place in Los Angeles and will be produced and fully financed by Big Beach Films (Safety Not Guaranteed).

Exploring sex, love and friendship, the story which ultimately emphasizes that conceptions of...

Max Landis Sets His Directorial Debut in Indie Comedy 'Me Him Her'
He's finally ready to make his big debut. Max Landis, son of filmmaker John Landis, has been making a name for himself over the last few years, co-writing Chronicle with Josh Trank and launching the comics-inspired viral video The Death and Return of Superman. He's been attached to a number of other writing projects, but now Variety is reporting he has lined up his directorial debut. It's an indie comedy called Me Him Her, being produced by Big Beach Films (Away We Go, Our Idiot Brother, Safety Not Guaranteed) to shoot next year, about sexual identity. That explains the title, it's about three people (me, "him" and "her"). The report explains that Max Landis' Me Him Her, written by him as well, is about three young leads, "at least one of whom is struggling with their sexuality." Big surprise. Landis explains that it's "Reality Bites on acid" and will...

Max Landis On What He'd Do With Superman
Landis recently caught a bit of flack for his comments made during MorrisonCon in Las Vegas where he refused to put his movie Chronicle in the superhero category. But this is also the same guy who made the 'mockumentary' short film about The Death and Return of Superman so clearly he's a fan or at least intrigued by the genre. Read on to find out how he'd approach writing Superman. Do you have a big Superman story that you would like to write one day? Landis: What would I do if I had the keys to Superman? Honestly, my opinion of Superman has always been that he should be a normal guy. In as much the sense, we don't go too cartoon-y, we don't go too far into the idea that he's an alien. We just focus on how fucking weird it would be to be Superman. I would love...

Max Landis Developing New 'Super Hero' TV Show Vigilant
Chronicle scribe Max Landis is no stranger to super heroes. Between the 'teens with powers' movie grossing over $120 million at the global box office and his wildly popular The Death and Return of Superman video he's got the genre covered, but he isn't done. THR is reporting that Landis and "Homeland" writer/producer Howard Gordan have received a script order from Fox on a new TV series titled "Vigilant." The series is described as "a ' superhero' origin story told through the unlikely point of view of a smart 20-year-old woman who happens to be a social outcast. After an honorable veteran detective is brutally coerced into working for the corrupt head of Internal Affairs, the detective's daughter plans her revenge by creating a fictional...
