While some video games exist as a storyless form of entertainment and engagement, some games also have a story to tell. Narrative-driven video games draw viewers in and give them heroes to root for and villains to despise. The immense time and attention given to core details of the game, such as worldbuilding and exposition, make them prime contenders to port over to streaming platforms.
Netflix has capitalized on the video game fanbase, creating stunning anime-inspired films and shows sure to hook viewers. From the mysterious and mythological journey Lara Croft traverses in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft to the gritty, frightening world portrayed in Castlevania, these video game adaptations prove to be some of the best among Netflix’s ever-increasing options.

Just in time for Judgment Day, Netflix has a new installment in the “Terminator” franchise for fans of the iconic, long-running sci-fi action franchise. This time, however, you won’t see any familiar faces — the series is animated. However, you might recognize some of the voices, so we’ve put together a handy guide to the “Terminator Zero” cast.
You won’t see Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese or Arnold’s T-800 in this story — it introduces a new timeline and all new characters to go with it. Set in 1997, Japan, “Terminator Zero” focuses on a developer named Malcolm Lee, who is hard at work on another AI system to compete with Skynet and save the human race. Naturally, a Terminator unit is sent back in time to target him and his three children, while a soldier from the future is sent back with a mission of her own.

Eli Roth’s Borderlands will finally hit theaters this August, almost nine years after its announcement. The film, based on the critically acclaimed video game franchise of the same name, underwent several script changes and production delays. The Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart starrer’s trailer was a mixed bag.
Moreover, fans of the game franchise are skeptical of the big screen medium as it may not have the time to establish different storylines starting from the 2009 game.

A popular suggestion among the video game fanbase was to make Borderlands into an animated series. This animated version would be a much better way to bring the world-building, numerous characters, and their complex interconnected storylines onto the screen.

Actor Nicolas Cage could have played Count Dracula long before Renfield.
Per Instagram, Insidious director James Wan offered high praise for Renfield, calling it "a hoot of a film" while singling out Cage and Nicolas Hoult's performances as the Count and titular protagonist. He then looked back on his involvement in a failed Castlevania game adaptation, revealing, "Cage and I spoke many years ago about playing Dracula in my (defunct) Castlevania movie, so it's great to see he finally got a chance to play the Prince of Darkness."

Critical Role's Matt Mercer is one of the most prominent Dungeon Masters in the world because of his ability to create memorable NPCs, his worldbuilding skill, and his adaptability as a storyteller. With the newest season of Legend of Vox Machina on the horizon and the continuing adventures of Bells Hells in Campaign 3, the homebrewed world of Exandria continues to grow in new and interesting ways. However, plenty of guest DMs have sat in the chair over the course of the series, and the best guest DMs in Critical Role each offer their own unique contributions to Exandria.
From the guest DMs of Exandria Unlimited to Critical Role one-shots led by other cast members, the series has seen a lot of talented people behind the Dm screen. Of course, some appearances are more memorable than others for fans of the Actual Play series. For both old and new audiences...

"Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" is a triumph for fantasy movies. This is a film that embraces the absurdity, the playfulness, and the chaos of playing arguably the most popular tabletop fantasy RPG of all time, or at least the best-known one. It is a hilarious film that avoids snarky, meta and campy humor, but instead has humor that's fully about characters being earnest in funny and extraordinary situations.
The "Dungeons & Dragons" movies is also full of wonderful fantasy creatures, including plenty of great practical effects creatures that feel out of the "Dark Crystal" TV show. What's more, the movie even includes some of the more esoteric creatures we can only see in a "Dungeons & Dragons" movie, like the intellect devourers, the mimics, and the gelatinous cube.

Fantasy is all the rage on television. Sure, the genre has been popular before, and each decade has given us hugely influential and fantastic stories of magic and fantastical creatures, from "Xena: Warrior Princess" to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." But when "Game of Thrones" exploded onto the scene with a mature, gory, politically charged fantasy story, it kickstarted a fantasy TV race, forcing every studio and streaming service to run and make their own fantasy epic, no matter how much they had to pay for it.
Meanwhile, animation has always been at the forefront of fantasy television. There were Saturday morning cartoons like "Dungeons & Dragons" and "He-Man," shows like "Gargoyles" that focused more on worldbuilding and sequential storytelling, and also "Dragon Age: Absolution" and "The Dragon Prince," which deliver the kind of epic fantasy storytelling we commonly only see on the big screen.
And then there's "The Legend of Vox Machina.

We're going through somewhat of a golden age for fantasy on the screen. After the '80s saw an explosion of fantasy movies — some of them zany and unserious, others the exact opposite — the success and acclaim of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy on the big screen and of "Game of Thrones" on TV has created a race to find the big new fantasy epic, e.g. the next sword and sorcery tale that can captivate audiences.
On the small screen, there's "The Witcher," "House of the Dragon," and "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" fighting for live-action dominance, and even animation has "The Legend of Vox Machima," "Dragon Age: Absolution," and "The Dragon Prince" offering high fantasy epics for a variety of different audiences.
Now, Paramount+ wants to join the fantasy race, and they're rolling the dice on a live-action series based on the granddaddy of fantasy games,...

"Dragon Age: Absolution" is an action-packed treat for fans of the award-winning video game franchise. The six-episode animated series expands the world of Thedas, including giving us our first look at a major location and some potential plot threads of the new game, and has a memorable cast of characters, all while delivering stunning animated action. That being said, the show has next to no consideration for those not familiar with the games, with a rapid-fire dropping of names and terms, and rather little explanation for how any of it works.
The franchise takes place in a fantasy world full of magic, and one of the things that make the game and "Absolution" stand out is their exploration of the consequences magic would have on politics and religion. Being a mage is not something cool that makes you popular, because mages are severely oppressed and regulated by authorities for fear...

This year, for Christmas, Netflix is giving subscribers a wealth of new releases.
These include films you would have had a chance to see in the cinema in November – films like Glass Onion, which is Rian Johnson’s sequel to Knives Out.
There are also new Guillermo del Toro (Pinocchio), Alejandro González Iñárritu (Bardo) and Noah Baumbach (White Noise) films being added from the beginning of the month, right through to New Year’s Eve,
TV wise, there will be a new series of Emily in Paris to tear through while slumped on the sofa post-Christmas dinner, as well as a prequel spin-off to The Witcher and a spy series called Treason.
Fun for all the family, then. Find every movie and TV show coming to Netflix in December 2022 below.

It’s almost the holiday season, which means that millions of travelers will soon find themselves in distant family members’ living rooms while Netflix blares on the TV. What Netflix shows and movies will be featured on those television sets? We now have a better idea as Netflix has released its list of new releases for December 2022.
It’s safe to say that movies are set to dominate this month. There is the usual holiday fare like Scrooge: A Christmas Carol on Dec. 2 but overall Netflix looks to be trying to end the year strong with some big ticket titles. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio arrives on Dec. 9. That will be followed by Rian Johnson’s next Benoit Blanc detective story, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, on Dec. 2. The end of the month closes out with White Noise, Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of the classic Don DeLillo novel, on Dec.

The winter holidays are rapidly bearing down upon us, so what better way to get into the festive spirit than by streaming, er, Denis Villeneuve's dramatic thriller "Prisoners"? Luckily, for those who are not in the mood to watch Hugh Jackman brutalize Paul Dano for two-and-a-half hours, there are plenty of alternate options to choose from on Netflix this December.
In keeping with tradition, the final month of 2022 will see an eclectic mix of genre films and TV series make their way onto the streamer, along with more than a few awards season hopefuls. The latter group's ranks include a new screen take on D.H. Lawrence's classic erotic novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" and a movie adaptation of "Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical." Then there are the latest films from multi-hyphenates Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Noah Baumbach ("White Noise"), on top of a pair of much-buzzed-about director-driven features that we will get to later.
