Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story (2011)

Trivia

Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story

Edit
Before the film was shown, Tikoy Aguiluz requested the producers, through his lawyers, to remove his directorial credits in the film and promotional tools because the film's final version can no longer be described as his after the producers made a re-edit, re-shoot, and music mixing without his involvement. He also demanded to be allowed to make a director's cut of the film.
Aside from Jorge Estregan , who was the nephew of Joseph Estrada (the first actor to portray Asiong Salonga onscreen), fellow actors Joko Diaz and Dennis Padilla have relatives who also appeared in the very first Asiong Salonga film in 1961. Joko's father, Paquito Diaz , who became famous playing villainous roles onscreen, played the role of Erning; and just like Dennis, his father Dencio Padilla played one of Asiong's comrades.
This is the fourth presentation of Asiong Salonga's life story onscreen. The first was in 1961 and was played by ER Ejercito's uncle, Joseph Estrada. The second was in 1977 with Rudy Fernandez, while the third was in 1990 with ER Ejercito, who also top-billed the fourth film.
Released 50 years after the very first Asiong Salonga film and 60 years after Salonga's death.
