Carrie-Ann Moss, aka Trinity from The Matrix, was surrounded by raining offers after the movie concluded a successful trilogy in 2003. Moss was going through a significant life-changing phase; she had to choose between the limelight and motherhood. Contemplating what she wanted more in the long run, the Die Alone actress took a willing break from her career to embrace motherhood.

After The Matrix made Carrie-Anne Moss a household name, she was offered a wave of major Hollywood roles. However, at the time, the actor opted to turn them down.
Speaking to The Independent, Moss said she decided to step away from acting to focus on raising her family. "After The Matrix was such a big deal, I took a big, big break to have children and be with them," she said. "I remember being torn, having a little twinge like, 'Gosh, I’m getting offered such great things. That would be such a huge deal.' And I was holding my baby in my arms, and I remember thinking, 'At the end of my life, will it matter to me that I have another movie on my résumé? Or will it matter to me that I held my baby?' And I instantly thought, no. It was just a no-brainer.

Die Alone is the most recent film from Saskatchewan-based filmmaker Lowell Dean. If you’ve heard of him, it’s probably because of the over-the-top genre comedies WolfCop and Another WolfCop. But he’s done several other films, including the zombie film 13 Eerie and the post-apocalyptic action film SuperGrid, which I was lucky enough to catch along with a Q&a session with him at the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival a few years back.
Both zombies and a post-apocalyptic setting return in Die Alone, but it’s not a typical tale of the zombie apocalypse, although that isn’t easy to tell from the opening scenes. Ethan and his girlfriend Emma were heading to his cabin when their car crashed. Ethan wakes up to find Emma and most of his memories, are missing.

Lightbulb Film Distribution has unveiled the official poster and trailer for Die Alone, the upcoming survival thriller starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Douglas Smith, and Frank Grillo. Directed by Lowell Dean, best known for his cult horror hit WolfCop, the film is set to arrive on Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray in the UK and Ireland on 10th March 2025.
Following its European premiere at Sitges Film Festival last year, Die Alone is now preparing for its wider release, offering a high-intensity blend of action, horror, and survival drama. The film draws inspiration from classics like 28 Days Later, throwing its characters into a brutal post-apocalyptic world where the undead are only part of the threat.

2024 was a slightly odd year for horror movies. Audiences and horror fans were completely divided on some of the most critically acclaimed films of the genre. Many of the best horror films went completely under the radar and remain obscure. Arguably the biggest horror release (Nosferatu) was a remake of a century-old film. Most others were just decent, fun, but slightly forgettable films. That somewhat applies to the Carrie-Anne Moss and Douglas Smith movie, Die Alone, but its grim world-building and nasty ending prevent it from being forgettable. That, and a wonderfully memorable performance from Frank Grillo.
While Grillo led his own fun horror movie in 2024 (Werewolves), he only appears for a bit in the final act of Die Alone, but it's a crucial scene and a brilliant little performance from an actor who is usually a much bigger part of things. His inclusion is a testament to the film's strong writing and unusual narrative,...

It was another bustling, not to mention fruitful, year for horror. And because the amount of new horror releases is staggering, especially when looking beyond the popular and commercial side, it is very understandable if a lot of titles flew under radars.
So, like previous years, the objective of this end-of-year list is to bring attention to just ten of those overlooked, underrated, and less-known newer horrors that can be considered hidden gems of 2024.

Since The Matrix trilogy was released, many of its actors have become major stars or moved on to other projects. The Matrix trilogy was a 1990s and early 2000s cultural phenomenon, with Neo becoming one of the iconic movie characters that defined the 1990s. There are four Matrix movies and a short animated series, with three movies in the original trilogy and a Matrix franchise reboot in 2021. Now, The Matrix 5 has finally been confirmed, and while many of the original and reboot cast members could still return, none have been announced yet.
Yet the original movie about a sentient computer program that has taken over humanity made all its main stars into icons, with many of the characters in The Matrix trilogy still recognizable to people who have not seen it. Some of the original Matrix trilogy stars returned to film the fourth movie in the franchise, while others were neither seen nor mentioned.

Fans may have seen the last of Jessica Jones' Jeri Hogarth. Carrie-Anne Moss, who portrayed the attorney in four of the six Marvel/Netflix series, recently expressed doubt that she would be brought back for a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
During an interview with The Direct to promote her latest movie Die Alone, Moss revealed that she would be willing to play Jeri Hogarth again in the MCU, although she isn't expecting to hear from Marvel Studios anytime soon. "I loved playing her. I really don't pay much attention [to] what's happening with that whole universe. I loved playing her, one of my favorite roles I've ever played. Who do you think of when you hear the name Carrie-Anne Moss? Is it the enigmatic Jedi Master Indara from The Acolyte? Is it the cutthroat lawyer Jeri Hogarth from the Netflix Marvel Defenders universe? Is it the subtly manipulative bartender Natalie from Memento? Or is it Trinity from The Matrix? I think if you asked most people, they'd likely tell you that Carrie-Anne Moss is as synonymous with Trinity as the hacker is with the influential sci-fi film. After over 30 years in the business, the career-defining role of Moss' life remains a massive part of the actor's legacy. But, if you think Moss is anything like the stoic and restrained Trinity, then you'd be wrong. Neither is she like the rugged Mae in her newest indie horror feature, Die Alone. Instead, when sitting with her on a Zoom call, Moss is down-to-earth, with a very matter-of-fact approach when it...

Lowell Dean’s “Die Alone” sutures a romantic story in a post-apocalyptic world. Ethan and Emma are a young couple. Their lives and romance are accursed when nature takes revenge and unleashes a virus that claims all the human lives and turns them into tree zombies. However, Ethan loses Emma and tumbles into a world devoid of humans. There is only one mysterious lady who seems to know the answers to his questions. Though sometimes crude, the film’s success lies in the final revelation.

Die Alone's Carrie-Anne Moss On Wanting To Share Her Character's Experiences & Douglas Smith Reunion
Carrie-Anne Moss is a woman with a dark past fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world in Die Alone. Fans of The Matrix may be surprised and/or depressed to realize it's been a whole 25 years since the groundbreaking first film was released to the masses. What followed were some legitimate sequels, video games, and other franchise goodies that have kept the beloved universe alive and well in Hollywood all these years later. Sure, there's Keanu Reeves as Neo who's led the charge but what about those equally scene-stealing supporting players? Carrie-Anne Moss has always been a fan-favorite as Trinity, the gun-wielding badass who helped bring Thomas Anderson to the real world.
MovieWeb caught up with Moss recently as her latest film Die Alone was released, another apocalypse-centered feature that sees her equipped with all sorts of weapons. She also weighed in on the future of The Matrix franchise since, following The Matix Reloaded and Revolutions, it was a hoot seeing her reteam with Reeves for Resurrections a few years ago.

For the longest possible time, Die Alone keeps guarding its big twist. Quite naturally, Lowell Dean’s zombie horror film hinges on a narrative that is intentionally confusing. Just like its lead character often finds it difficult to understand what is really going on, the audience faces the same challenge. Everything does become quite clear in the end though, as the movie makes it a point to clarify all sorts of things. In this article, I am going to take a swing at simplifying the story by taking a chronological approach. And yes, we are obviously going to discuss Die Alone’s ending of it, in case you were wondering.

The timeless Carrie-Anne Moss leads one of this weekend's new releases, Die Alone, an apocalyptic thriller centered around an epidemic that runs rampant and turns humans into cannibalistic monsters. If it sounds familiar, sure, there have been numerous zombie horror films over the decades, but Die Alone offers some unique plot beats such as Moss portraying someone who takes a spiraling amnesiac under her wing amid trying times. If that also sounds familiar, Christopher Nolan fans might remember Moss from his early memory-loss stunner Memento, which will soon celebrate 25 years since its release. In fact, it was Memento that almost kept Moss from starring in Die Alone.
"I have to be honest, when I first read [the Die Alone script], that was the only thing that kind of gave me any hesitation, was just those few moments where I was like, 'Oh, this sort of feels like I've done this before,...

As the French saying goes, "Il n'y a pas d'avenir" or, "There is no future." In the face of the apocalypse, that's indeed the literal perspective, and with the increasingly trying times we live in, those experiencing less severe but still headache-inducing issues might feel the same way about things, like a tiny apocalypse. The feeling of hopelessness has been explored on the big screen time and time again, both in a literal and figurative sense, and is particularly prominent in the zombie subgenre of cinema. Releasing today, Die Alone paints a twisted picture of this genre with a savage brushstroke.

Lost in a world reclaimed by nature and overrun by mysterious creatures, Die Alone picks up with a young man suffering from amnesia who teams up with an eccentric survivalist to find his missing girlfriend.
Written and directed by Lowell Dean, the movie stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Douglas Smith, Kimberly-Sue Murray, and Frank Grillo.
Earlier this week, we had the good fortune to speak with Moss about her role as Mae. Badass, mysterious, and compelling, the character is one of the actor's best creations - no easy feat when she played The Matrix's Trinity - and Moss talks us through her approach to Die Alone and what she enjoyed about exploring this role.
We also hear from the Jessica Jones alum on the shock cancellation of Star Wars TV series The Acolyte earlier this year. As Master Indara, Moss was only ever going to appear in one season and explains why...

They say to never judge a book by its cover, but sometimes you just can't help yourself. Sitting down to watch Die Alone, a straight-to-digital horror film about yet another zombie apocalypse an idea that has been done to death I didn't expect much. But then I hit play, and one minute in, with a twist occurring right away, I was hooked. Die Alone might be set in the aftermath of the rise of the Walking Dead, but this isn't your standard genre fair. Instead, Lowell Dean's (Wolf Cop) latest film is one of the biggest surprises of the year. Starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Douglas Smith, and Frank Grillo, Die Alone is filled with unexpected and plausible twists, crafting a puzzle of a story you have to put together along the way but won't be able to figure out until the very end. It's at once beautiful to look at due to its setting,...

John Lithgow, Geoffrey Rush and Kristine Froseth won top acting awards at Spain’s prominent Sitges Fantasy Film Festival, which wrapped its 57th edition on Oct. 13.
Making a sweep of the fest with three awards was Austrian Best International Feature Oscar entry “The Devil’s Bath” by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. Drawn from historical facts, the Austrian-German co-production is described by Variety critic Jessica Kiang as a “story so pitilessly bleak you may want to look away; the filmmaking craft is so compelling that you can’t.” The historical horror drama, which vied for the Berlinale Golden Bear in February, follows Agnes, a depressed newlywed, who instead of committing suicide, considered taboo by her Christian community, commits a crime that would lead to her execution. The “suicide by proxy” practice was said to be common in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in German-speaking Central Europe and Scandinavia.
