Real Reason Lala Actor Mariel Molino Said NCIS: Origins Will End With a “Huge” Cliffhanger
Image
When NCIS: Origins said it’s leaving us on the edge of our seats, they were not kidding, and Mariel Molino cranked the hype meter to full blast. NCIS: Origins alum (Agent Lala) spilled the beans that the prequel series is firing off a Huge cliffhanger that’ll leave us fans side-eyeing our calendars for the next season.

Forget neat bows and tidy endings, Origins is tossing the script out the window and going full throttle into “wait, What just happened?!” mode.

Why NCIS: Origins is saving a “huge” cliffhanger for Lala Austin Stowell as and Mariel Molino in NCIS: Origins | Credits: CBS

Mariel Molino (Agent Lala Dominguez) dropped a bomb: the Season 1 finale is ending with a “huge” cliffhanger that’ll change everything. The April 28 episode’s about to wreck nerves and loyalties.

Talking to TV Insider, Molino teased “a big question about Lala” that flips the team and story upside down.

Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 19 Confirms Toya Turner’s Kiana Is the Gift That Keeps Giving
Image
At the risk of redundancy, Chicago Pd has struck gold with Kiana Cook this season.

It’s been a long while since this series has successfully fleshed out a character so well without necessarily distracting the rest of the show or characters or disrupting everything.

While Kiana had some hiccups during Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 19, it also served as a strong, insightful peek into the character while simultaneously solving an interesting case.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC) Natalia del Riego Was the Ultimate Scene Stealer

While I’ll happily get into the Kiana of it all, since it was one hell of an episode for her, I have to give some proper due to Promised Land‘s Natalia del Riego, who played Ruby.

She was electric onscreen, and I appreciate a guest star who milks their screentime for all it’s worth.

One thing Chicago Pd Season 12 has lucked out with is...

A Television Writer Wonders: Is Writing for TV Over?
Image
The first writers’ room I ever worked in was considered freakishly small at the time. There were seven writers, a writers’ assistant, a script coordinator, a writers’ Pa, and a phalanx of personal assistants, which was the category I fell into.

Zipped into my bright floral Topshop shift dresses and vibrating with Trader Joe’s Powerberries, I leapt at any opportunity to sub for the writers’ assistant as note taker. Behind the writers’ room iMac, I tried and failed not to laugh too hard at everyone’s jokes, awed by how plot was broken and shaped in between zingy bouts of one-upmanship.

Every morning as I walked past a twee little set of Pluto’s paw prints on my way to work, I had a sense of confirmation that felt borderline delirious. My feet were on the path, so all I needed to do now was work hard for a while,...

Even though Carry-On was planned as a standalone movie, no one can ignore the massive success that the film achieved on Netflix, and fans have started wondering if we're witnessing the birth of a franchise. With such an outstanding performance on the streamer's charts, it's inevitable to think about what can be done in terms of sequels or prequels to keep the story going. Luckily, Collider Editor Aidan Kelley was able to talk to one of its cast members at this weekend's Independent Spirit Awards: Tonatiuh (Promised Land) offered a take on what's to come.

NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 11 Is Making Good on Its Namesake with Flashbacks into Mike’s Past and His Undying Love for His Boots
Image
I guess it’s true that the boots make the man, and NCIS: Origins has got one hell of a man in Mike Franks. Are we still sure Gibbs is the protagonist of this series?

It seems like the show is doing the smart thing and giving audiences what they want, and that’s more of fan-favorite Mike Franks. Can you blame us? The mustache alone makes the character iconic.

Still, as far as episodes go, this was probably the weakest one of NCIS: Origins. I’m not saying it was bad, but this one was light on the drama compared to earlier episodes.

(Sonja Flemming/CBS)

Also, what is the main plot of the season? Now that we’re well past Gibbs getting revenge for his murdered family, what’s the over-arching plot?

There is still half of NCIS: Origins Season 1 left with no general direction.

The Look into...

Jennifer Lopez Tears Up, Bill Condon Gets Political at Electric ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ Sundance Debut
Image
Oscar-winning Sundance Film Festival veteran Bill Condon returned to Park City to present the world premiere of his new movie musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman, at Eccles Center Theatre on Sunday night. When it was over and all the credits had rolled, his star Jennifer Lopez was moved to tears, the capacity crowd delivered two standing ovations and a star was born thanks to a revelatory turn from Tonatiuh.

Considering the pedigree of its filmmaker — Condon previously directed musicals Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast and wrote the Oscar-winning Chicago — and its global superstar who plays dual roles including the title character, Spider Woman was the most anticipated debut of Sundance this year. In his review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s chief film critic David Rooney calls it one of Lopez’s best roles of her decades-long career.

Lopez, who skipped snow boots and sweaters for her festival debut, hit...

‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ Review: Jennifer Lopez Is an Out-of-this-World Diva in a Musical Movie That Struggles to Land Back on Earth
Image
Jennifer Lopez is not one of those actresses who disappears into a role. For one, she’s too famous to allow the audience to separate artist from character entirely. Often, those characters, whether Selena or in last year’s “Unstoppable” as a sports mom, are extensions of her persona, astral projections of her stature as a global pop superstar into a fantasy movie world that depends on her song-and-dance gifts. For another, a Jennifer Lopez joint is always more about her presence — her name on the marquee, her face under the big bright lights — than her skills in vanishing inside a character.

Writer/director Bill Condon’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” a new screen version of the John Kander and Fred Ebb Broadway musical itself inspired by Manuel Puig’s novel and Héctor Babenco’s 1985 Oscar winner, could do no better casting than Lopez as Ingrid Luna, a fictional...

‘Safe House’ Team Talks ‘Suspenseful’ Goteborg Opener as TrustNordisk Debuts Trailer: ‘Part of History That Needs to Be Told’ (Exclusive)

Based on true events, Göteborg opening film “Safe House” – about a group of people trying to survive in a hospital in conflict-torn Bangui in 2013 – could be a harrowing watch. But lead actor Kristine Kujath Thorp found hope in the story.

“What really stuck with me was that even though the world is a very complicated place, most people want good, they want love and to live in peace. It’s just a few bloody bastards at the top. If only a few men can do such harm, think of what we could do if we weren’t so indifferent and stood together,” she told Variety.

Directed by Eirik Svensson, “Safe House” also features Alexander Karim, Bibi Tanga, Alma Pöysti, Tracy Gotoas and Mattis Herman Nyquist. Produced by Fantefilm, it’s sold by Trust Nordisk, which has shared the trailer in exclusivity with Variety.

Sheriff Country Set Photos Reveal First Look At Mickey & Sharon's Return As Filming Begins On Fire Country Spinoff
Image
Sheriff Country gets a big update, as lead star Morena Baccarin shares photos from the set. The first Fire Country spinoff will see Baccarin reprise the role of Mickey Fox, the step-sister of Sharon (Diane Farr) and a Sheriff's Sergeant. Although she has only appeared in a single episode of the main series so far, Mickey will soon step into the spotlight.

Baccarin shared some photos from the set of Sheriff Country, showing the Deadpool & Wolverine star standing and posing with Farr. The photos also show the dark exterior, with the two actors seemingly filming in the woods. It may bring to mind a scene from Baccarin's appearance in Fire Country, with Mickey and Sharon running in the woods. The caption, in any case, reads: “TV sisters and more!!! Promised Land (2012)
Film Review: Promised Land (2024) by Masashi Iijima
Promised Land (2012)
The Matagi are traditional hunter communities in Japan, known for their deep connection with nature, sustainable hunting practices, and unique cultural heritage. They originated in the mountainous regions of northern Japan, particularly in the Tohoku and Hokkaido areas. The Matagi have historically relied on hunting as a way of life, primarily targeting animals such as bears, deer, and rabbits. At the same time, their existence remains unknown out of the borders of Japan, which is probably one of the reasons Masashi Iijima chose them as his theme of his debut feature, which is based on the homonymous novel by Kazuichi Iijima.

The story takes place in 1983, in the village of Hibara, located deep within the mountains of Yamagata Prefecture in northern Japan. In this place, the traditions of the matagi remain strong. When the snow begins to thaw, the men follow custom and put their occupations aside to head into the mountains.

NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 9 Review: Vivo o Muerto
Image
All right, everyone can pick their jaws off of the floor. We wanted some answers, and NCIS: Origins threw us the absolute best curve balls.

For one, we finally know how Lala’s story is entangled with Gibbs’s. And we really got some answers about where things were headed regarding Gibbs’ revenge. That’s all the subtlety I had left in me.

I’m just going to say it now: this was by far the best episode of NCIS: Origins. Any time a show can make me audibly gasp, it’s a win in my book.

(Sonja Flemming/CBS)

This was such a heavy episode, but at least Kleenex wasn’t required to make it through. Just when we thought NCIS: Origins was going to zig, it zagged.

CAA Signs ‘Kiss of the Spider-Woman’ Star Tonatiuh (Exclusive)
Image
Tonatiuh has signed with CAA.

Tonatiuh recently wrapped filming the lead role of Molina in “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” directed by Bill Condon, opposite Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna.

The film, produced by Artists Equity and Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions, is based on Manuel Puig’s critically acclaimed and bestselling 1976 novel. “Kiss of the Spider Woman is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981. Lopez stars as the titular role, a fantasy woman named Aurora created by Luis Molina (Tonatiuh), a queer window dresser serving an eight-year sentence for allegedly corrupting a minor. To escape the horrors of his imprisonment, Molina imagines movies starring Aurora as a classic silver screen diva, including a role of the spider woman, who kills her prey with a kiss. Molina forms an unlikely bond with his cellmate, a Marxist, Valentin Arregui Paz (Luna).

“It’s a very special musical,” Lopez told Variety in May.

NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Incognito
Image
Well, ladies and gents, I’d say Christmas came early, but I’m still trying to figure out what exactly NCIS: Origins gave audiences. We thought we were getting answers but were left with questions.

Truthfully, the case in this episode was a particularly difficult one to follow. If I have it right, a guy who worked for the government was tricked into giving away military weapon schematics.

However, the actual plot of NCIS: Origins was almost entirely about Special Agent Lala Dominguez. It only took six episodes, but we finally got some insight into the character.

(Erik Voake/CBS)

However, that insight came with burning questions that will likely stay with viewers until the series provides answers.

The first is, what the hell is going on with Lala?

NCIS Origins Season 1 Episode 6 Spoilers: There’s A New Mr. & Mrs. Smith In Town
Image
How do you take an already ridiculously attractive cast like the stars of NCIS: Origins and make them even shinier? Throw them into formal wear and send them out for a night on the town.

That’s what “Incognito” is serving viewers in its promo. However, the main thing to take away is the clear spotlight on Special Agent Lala Dominguez.

Since the start of NCIS: Origins, fans have been eagerly awaiting to see when Lala and Gibbs’s stories would, shall we say, entangle. Her character also hasn’t been developed nearly as much as others.

(Erik Voake/CBS)

Hopefully, now halfway through the premiere season of NCIS: Origins, the writers will connect the dots and explain how this is also “the story of her.” I can still hear Mark Harmon.

Brad Pitt's Role In Ryan Reynolds' If Movie Explained
Image
Though there are plenty of voice cameos in If, the credits revealing Brad Pitt as Keith is a surprising secret. John Krasinski's 2024 live-action/CGI hybrid movie about imaginary friends features plenty of A-list talent. Whether it is Ryan Reynolds leading the way or the likes of Steve Carell or Phoebe Waller-Bridge being part of If's voice cast, the credits for the film are loaded with recognizable names. This is at least partially due to Krasinski and Reynolds pulling in favors from other people they have worked with over the years.

Leading up to If's ending, audiences are sure to match the voices of many imaginary friends with known stars. Krasinski and Gosling's real-life wives, Emily Blunt and Blake Lively, both have voice cameos as Unicorn and Octopuss. Krasinski also pulls in his former Leatherheads co-star George Clooney, former Promised Land co-star Matt Damon, and former Aloha co-star Bradley Cooper.

Mariel Molino as Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez in ‘NCIS: Origins’ episode 1

CBS’s NCIS: Origins shows how a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) joins Nis, the agency that became NCIS. There’s also a young Franks (Kyle Schmid) but the rest of the team is all new. Mariel Molino plays Special Agent Lala Dominguez.

The pilot for NCIS: Origins wasn’t available to watch before CBS presented the show to the Television Critics Association. So, I spoke with Molino at the party that evening to find out more about the new character. NCIS: Origins premieres Monday, October 14, 2024 at 10pm Et/Pt.

Outer Banks Season 4 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 4.

Outer Banks season 4 is jampacked with a variety of songs by many different artists, ranging from Skinshape to The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Coming off of their El Dorado discovery in Outer Banks season 3, the Pogues return to North Carolina, where they build a home for themselves, aka another Poguelandia, in season 4. However, they can never stay out of trouble for too long as they get mixed up with a family curse involving Blackbeard's wife.

Netflix split Outer Banks season 4 into two parts each consisting of five episodes, with part 1 releasing on October 10, 2024, and part 2 dropping on November 7, 2024.

The Pogues find themselves in contention with another (more lethal) treasure-hunting crew who are also searching for Blackbeard's wife's amulet and the pirate's treasure. Consequently, the stakes are high in the fourth season of the Netflix action-adventure mystery teen drama series. Along the way,...

Outer Banks season 4 part 1 soundtrack: All songs featured by episode
Image
The Pogues are back with a new adventure on Netflix with Outer Banks season 4 part 1, and you can bet that when they're not off on a dangerous treasure hunt, they're having a good time all the time. This season, with the Chateau and their beloved Poguelandia island in the past, the group creates their new oasis on The Cut, where they can plot their next move and listen to their favorite tunes.

After finding El Dorado in season 3 and seemingly making bank, the Pogues look to set themselves up for success. But some financial troubles push them back into the gold game as they accept an offer to unravel the mystery of Blackbeard's treasure. New challenges, new enemies, and new stakes keep them from simply running their bait shop and surfing every day.

Tyler Perry's Ruthless Cast & Character Guide: Who Plays Who
Image
The Tyler Perry series, Ruthless, includes a cast of talented actors, some of whom have been in Perry productions before and others new to the universe. Tyler Perry, creator of the Madea franchise of movies as well as many more TV shows and films, created Ruthless as a spinoff of The Oval, a BET political drama about the U.S. President and his family. Ruthless takes a much darker turn, starring Melissa Williams as Ruth Truesdale, a member of the dangerous and sexually exploitative Rakudushi cult.

When Ruth's daughter is also brought into the cult, Ruth comes to realize how awful it is and plans her escape. Premiering in March 2020, Ruthless has been on for five seasons and the show once again proves that Tyler Perry doesn't need Madea to create a watchable program. It's one of the more fantastical and overtly hair-raising Tyler Perry productions and the ensemble cast...

Matt Damon & Casey Affleck On A Possible ‘The Instigators’ Sequel At Apple, Streaming’s Future, Their Chemistry & Some Serious Fenway Park Love
Image
“Speaking hypothetically, what would happen if a Yankees fan yelled ‘Bucky Fucking Dent’ as you are in your windup to throw out the first pitch today,” I ask Matt Damon as he marinates in the anxiety of Jason Bourne screwing it up on the mound in front of a sellout crowd at Fenway Park.

He doesn’t miss a beat: “I guess I’ll be throwing at your head, Mike.”

We are at Fenway on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, in which a Red Sox-Yankees contest has turned into a celebration for the Apple TV+ release of The Instigators. That comedy has proved itself an example of a moderately priced film that can be a victory for a big streamer, armed with clever marketing that included the above Dunkin’ Donuts commercial spoof which exploded virally and helped drive the film to become one of Apple TV+’s most watched films.

On this day,...
