Illogical and annoying

The main problem of Air is it doesn't have enough gas to keep the momentum going.

For a movie called Air, it sure feels tiresomely suffocating. The overall concept is about two men who wake up from stasis sleep to do critical housekeeping on a post-apocalyptic facility. It brings the usual gloomy ambiance and the two actors do possess good acting performance, but the movie is utterly boring. Low on production and very tediously paced, it's almost like a forced prolonged short movie.

Bauer (Norman Reedus) and Cartwright (Djimon Hounsou) work on the ark facility where periodically they would wake up to keep things running. With small cast and setting, the main focus here is the human drama between these two as they troubleshoot any faults in the station while questioning their own sanity.

Plot-wise it's not very complex, there's not much developments or twists, at least not outside the stereotypical sci-fi movies. The back story is told with various clips or narration from both characters, which can feel detached and lackluster at times. Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou have decent on-screen presences, however the material is spread too thinly and they struggle to produce any excitement from the barren plot.

That's the main problem of Air, it simply doesn't have enough gas to keep the momentum going. Note that the runtime is the average ninety minutes for a very small scale movie, furthermore it utilizes repetitive themes for filling. It teases the slightly dysfunctional relationship between the two or what mental problem they may have, but these are basic thriller aspects that don't present much thrill in exception of one or two decent scenes.

While the retro 80s futuristic theme can be intriguing and its two leads are capable, most of the movie feels like extended padding. It probably could've done the same with half the runtime, the rest is merely cumbersome trudge over dystopian gig.

Well worth watching if you enjoy sci-fi dystopia genre

Despite other reviews I've read i liked this movie. Read no further than this review, or the synopsis because the less you know the more immersed a film will feel.

It's about two men who service a facility which hold the last remnants of humanity and civilization. The air outside is toxic, there are other facilities just like theirs out there.

Although the cinematography was average, and i think some scenes could have emphasized claustrophobia better; nonetheless, the production value was great which is necessary for films in the sci-fi genre. The soundtrack i really liked and it really sealed the deal on my interest. From the start there was growing suspense that kept me fixated.

Up until the conflict, i felt like i was alongside them in this dystopia. I don't think the chemistry between Bauer and Cartwright was really that fluid and the dialogue (banter) itself was sloppy and forced. But they really shined when they were in their separate scenes and that is what held my intrigue.

A confusing and slow paced thriller

This film tells the story of two men in a facility in a post apocalyptic world, whose job is to get up once every six months to keep top scientists alive in their respective sleeping chambers.

"Air" has an interesting story, but it doesn't have enough to keep a ninety minutes runtime. It is slow paced to the point that it appears to be dragging on just for the sake of filling up screen time. The story is told in a confusing manner, and often I have to form my own interpretations of what is happening. There are far too many unanswered questions regarding many aspects of the plot, hence the plot appears messy. It's quite a pity because "Air" has the potential to be captivating.

An interesting take.

This film involving two maintenance men keeping a facility and it's "Sleepers" in preserve to rebuild humanity in an apocalyptic world. The story involving the two men and not so much the world they are in now makes it an interesting emotional take especially if they are what feels like being alone.

It could use a little more dynamic of emotion between the two but still makes a point.

It's a film that can make you think differently on the situation.

Very good

I'm not sure what is with other people, but I thought this movie was very good. Maybe they just can't enjoy something that is not a big blockbuster budget mega action movie.

I enjoyed the entire movie. I thought the story, acting, set were all good and kept me watching and thinking the entire time. Never once did I think it was boring or wish that it would hurry up already. I thought both main characters were very good and I was never sure who I really wanted to root for.

There were only a few places where I thought things wouldn't have gone the way they did them but maybe that is just me.

Yes, I would definitely recommend this movie if you like to think and feel rather than just be entertained.

Has its moments but quickly fades into the mediocre

The first feature length sojourn of Skybound, the group behind the universally successful Walking Dead comics, TV show and all subsequent run-offs, Air (featuring TWD's very own Norman Reedus) is an at first engaging and tense low budget Sci-fi that sadly descends down a rabbit hole of increasingly uninteresting and questionable scenarios.

First time director Christian Cantamessa (the man who wrote the fantastic video game Red Dead Redemption) certainly hasn't given himself an easy first feature to win out on with Air's plot almost exclusive focusing on the maintenance workers of Djimon Hounsou's Cartwright and Reedus's Bauer, who like his Daryl in TWD is still in need of a long overdue haircut.

Like any film that sets itself around a confined space and a confined cast, say like a Moon or Buried, Air has to fight to keep viewers' attention almost entirely through things not seen and engaging acting and while Hounsou and Reedus share some form of chemistry it's not enough to carry the film potentially ripe idea to levels that could've made Air a must see Sci-Fi yarn.

The central idea that Air basis's itself around of our air supply being tarnished by a range of natural of man-made causes with humankinds last hope a group of Noah's Ark like underground facilities with pods of long term sleeping humans is an interesting one and whilst familiar in many senses does seem somewhat fresh but Cantamessa and his co-writer Chris Pasetto can't wring enough out of their limited budget supply on top notch dialogue to take the idea to fresh places.

Small moments and a quality opening half make Air something more than a non-event but this is certainly a forgettable start of Skybound's foray into Hollywood movies. Cantamessa seems like a young filmmaker with some talent and it'd be great to see him go on with his efforts here while Reedus is lucky he has Daryl to fall back on and poor old Hounsou is still chasing a role of the same quality he found in Blood Diamond and In America.

Had potential

If they had fleshed this out and included more details this could have been a more enjoyable movie. As it stands its left wanting. It does have some good scenes but not enough to make it adequate let alone satisfying.

An "Outer Limits"-esque claustrophobic thriller with the typical small cast and the usual moral questions of life and death

Dirty-bomb terrorism attacks have forced the US government to retro-fit cold-war era nuclear fallout shelters with suspended animation pods in order to wait out the irradiated atmosphere. Each facility has two maintenance technicians, who wake at periodic intervals to check the atmosphere outside and repair faulty equipment. However, when one of the technician's pods malfunctions, he is forced to venture outside and discovers the world isn't how they believed it to be.

Air is an "Outer Limits"-esque claustrophobic thriller with the typical small cast and the usual moral questions of life and death, and how humans react when pushed to the edge. However, with a notable cast, Air manages to rise above the TV or straight-to-DVD level by way of some decent production values and a script that's not entirely terrible. There's nothing too surprising about the plot twists, but it's a fine example of the genre and like a comfortable old shoe, you won't regret taking a walk in it, even if it's around familiar territory.

Low budget nonsense

Looking at the movie synopsis "In the near future....etc" I was expecting at least the look and feel of the film to be somewhat futuristic or at least using technology of today. Yet from the opening scene shows old style chunky cathode ray monitors of yesteryear as their computer interfaces but wait a minute, one of the guys is walking around with an ipad... come on, from which junkyard did they scrounge up the CRT's ?. It was a bad credibility start but managed to grind through the implausibility for the most. The set is as claustrophobic as the plot with B grade acting to boot a B movie. Give this one a miss.

End of the world science fiction

If you expect a lot of action then Air isn't probably what you're looking for, but if you're looking for a sci-fi with a new approach then you're good with this one. It's a story we didn't see before and for that alone it's worth a watch. But don't expect too much special effects and things like that because the movie is essentially about two guys (Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou) with the task to save the world by preserving the lives of important people. You won't see much more actors then those two, besides one or two that have minor roles. But to me, it worked. I never got bored, and even though it's almost all the time shot in the same environment, with only two major actors, the story is entertaining with a dose of mystery. But then again I like end-of-the-world doom scenarios. So if you like that as well, Air is worth watching.

A sort of Moon, but not that good

I liked the film, as a performance piece from Reedus and Hounsou, and truly it's not more than that. It's a situational drama. The plot is, in fact, irrelevant. The ending scene that brings closure was already not needed.

That being said, I feel like the script could have been a little more polished. The dialogue and the decisions of the characters sometimes felt a bit fractured, the movie lacks a natural fluidity. Certainly the film could have gained a point if the extra scenes - like the pointless and extra long beginning - would have been cut in favor of character development.

Bottom line: it doesn't deserve such a low rating on IMDb. Cantamessa may not be the best director in the world, but for his first full length movie, he wasn't bad. I felt as if the film was inspired by Moon. It had the same feel, only with two protagonists. And as Moon, the movie could easily have been an episode of a sci-fi anthology. Moon was clearly better, though.

Air Pollution, What's that smell?

Yes I do "enjoy sci-fi dystopia genre" but this movie was flat out horrible.

I could only stand about 20 minutes of it before I had to throw in the towel.

I really do like Norman Reedus, but I honestly don't know how he ended up in this horrible movie. For that matter it looks like he wasn't even trying.

First of all it look like they spent all of maybe $5000 to make this movie. Filmed in what looked like a basement. It looks like they raided the local E-waste dump to throw in a bunch of old electronics junk. Then they made a few cheap CGI cut scenes.

Sometimes there are movies like this, cheaply made, mostly in all one location, etc., and turn out great. This was not one of them.

If you like Sci-Fi or not, this is just a horrible movie all ways around..

Really Awful

My husband knew the movie was going to be bad right from the start. He said, "sounds like B-rated music". When they paused unnecessarily on a stupid cat poster, that's the point when I realized he was right.

This is one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. I love Norman. He's a fantastic actor. So disappointing.

I also love the sci-fi genre and really wanted to like this movie. I've allowed myself to like other strange flicks out there (The Signal, Solaris). However, Air had no substance, no in-depth story, no real purpose. Air is a great title for it as it's nothing more than terribly wasted time and air. Hopefully Norman sticks to The Walking Dead, and doesn't venture into something dreadfully boring like this again.
