It’s not uncommon for Oscar hosts to pay homage to the Academy’s long history, but some of that history is actually pretty unpleasant.
During this year’s never-ending ceremony, host Conan O’Brien happened to mention the first ever Best Actor Oscar winner, Emil Jannings, who took home the award for his work in The Way of All Flesh. This was way back in 1929, when the ceremony mercifully lasted for just 15 minutes.
While Conan only brought Jennings up in order to tee-up a joke about an Electric Boogaloo-esque Way of All Flesh sequel (we’ll let you fill in the pun yourselves), he neglected to mention that this particular Oscar win had a pretty unfortunate epilogue. Like really unfortunate.

Raunchy rom-com There's Something About Mary is climbing the streaming chart, currently sitting at number six on Hulu. Starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, the comedy was directed by the Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby), and became a massive smash hit when it premiered in July 1998. The film went on to earn nearly $370 million at the global box office against a $23 million production budget. It currently sits at a positive 84% critical and, surprisingly, only 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
Following the success of Dumb and Dumber in 1994, and, to a lesser extent, Kingpin in 1996, the Farrelly Brothers went to work on There's Something About Mary, which starred Stiller as Ted, Diaz as Mary, and Matt Dillon as Healy. Years after a disastrous high school date with his crush Mary (you have to see it to believe it), Ted gets another chance years later when his best friend Dom (Chris Elliott) suggests he find her.

Jeff Daniels revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he saved 200 reviews that panned “Dumb & Dumber,” his 1994 buddy comedy with Jim Carrey about two dimwitted friends who drive cross-country to return a briefcase full of a money that was actually left as a ransom. Critics were not kind to the movie, but it became a classic nonetheless with $247 million worldwide.
“I have a theatre company in Michigan so I put on a preview,” Daniels said. “I was sat next to my parents and when we got to the toilet scene, my father hung his head in his hands and said: ‘No, Jeffrey …’ Meanwhile 5,000 people fell out of their chairs laughing. The reviews were horrible though. I still have a scrapbook of 200 newspapers panning the movie and wishing it never existed. Then we were the box office No. 1 for six straight weeks. That’s when it hit me that we’d done the impossible.

From Scratch True Story Explained: What The Netflix Miniseries Leaves Out & Where Tembi Locke Is Now
Netflix's miniseries From Scratch is one of the most emotional and poignant series the streaming giant has produced. The story follows Amy, an American art student (Zoe Saldaña), who falls in love with Sicilian chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea), while living in Italy. From Scratch resonated with Netflix viewers worldwide and became an instant hit. While the love story drew audiences in, it was the show's exploration of the couple's hardships that made it special. After Lino is diagnosed with cancer, the couple struggles with his health issues, navigates the culture clash between their judgmental families, and eventually adopts a child.
Many viewers were surprised to learn that the limited series is based on a true story. Series creators and real-life sisters Tembi and Attica Locke drew inspiration from Tembi's memoir, From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home. While some details of their lives were altered for the series,...

Quick Links Why Jim Carrey Loves Returning to the Role of Ivo Robotnik How Does Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Further the Progression of Dr. Robotnik? The Sonic the Hedgehog Film Franchise Wouldn't Work as Well Without Jim Carrey's Involvement
In more ways than one, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has proved itself to be the best installment of the trilogy if not one of the best video game movies ever made. While fans of the franchise have praised the film for how it's handled certain fan-favorite characters, particularly with Shadow the Hedgehog and the casting of Keanu Reeves to provide his voice, they've also expressed copious amounts of joy at seeing Jim Carrey once again return to the role of Sonic's number one villain, Dr. Robotnik. Out of all of Jim Carrey’s iconic roles, the actor would might be most interested in reprising his titular “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” character.
When asked which of his past films he would want to return to, Carrey told ComicBook that the Grinch was among his favorite characters. However, his declaration of affection for Ron Howard’s 2000 film came with the caveat that the prosthetics required for the green, hairy Dr. Seuss villain were “excruciating” to endure.
“Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch,” Carrey said about who he would like to play again. “The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process.”
Carrey, who is back for franchise installment “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” added that he stayed grounded during the production by reminding himself of the beloved Dr.

Jim Carrey said in April 2022 that he was likely retiring from acting after reprising the evil Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” which opened in theaters the same month. It was Carrey’s second time playing the video game villain. He first starred as Robotnik in 2020’s “Sonic the Hedgehog,” which marked Carrey first major role in a studio movie since the 2014 sequel “Dumb and Dumber To.”
“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious,” Carrey told Access Hollywood on the “Sonic 2” press tour. “It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”

A Jim Carrey franchise has received a surprising update a decade after the release of the latest sequel. The Emmy-nominated performer is best known for his roles in comedies, with his breakout roles coming in the mid-1990s in movies including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask. Over the years, he has appeared in a variety of well-known comedies such as Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty in addition to dramas including The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Cumulatively, his movies have grossed nearly $6 billion worldwide.

For the first time in ten years, comedic directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have joined forces once more for the Christmas movie Dear Santa, now out on Paramount+. Fittingly, that big-screen creative reunion between the brothers came just three weeks ahead of the 30th anniversary of their comedy classic feature debut, Dumb and Dumber, and marked their first collaboration since its sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. In the time since, they've managed to find their own successes apart from each other, with Peter directing and co-writing the Best Picture-winning Green Book, while Bobby has since helmed the Woody Harrelson-led Champions and a few episodes of his brother's hit show Loudermilk. After Dear Santa, though, they don't expect to be apart as long, and they may even revisit the beloved idiotic characters that started it all.

Released in 1994, Dumb and Dumber still stands tall as one of the most popular comedy movies of its era. Three decades later, the Farrelly Bros. are teasing that a third installment will happen in another 10 years.
Recently, the Farrelly Bros. took part in an interview with Variety to promote their next film, Dear Santa. They were asked if there were any movies from their catalog they'd be interested in revisiting, and the 30-year-old comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was instantly mentioned. Peter Farrelly, who directed the film after co-writing the script with brother Bobby Farrelly and Bennett Yellin, confirmed there are loose plans to make another Dumb and Dumber film.

In mid-December of 1994, the Farrelly brothers blew the roofs off cinemas around the world with their gut-busting feature directorial debut, Dumb and Dumber. And so it’s fitting that Dear Santa, their first feature film team-up in a decade, arrives just three weeks before the 30th anniversary of their Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels-led buddy comedy.
In the intervening years, the Rhode Island-raised brothers, Peter and Bobby, have kept busy, as the former won two Oscars — including best picture and best screenplay — as the co-writer and director of Green Book (2018). Bobby also directed the underrated Woody Harrelson-led comedy-drama, Champions (2023), having produced and/or directed various other projects across both mediums until that point.

But the brothers have remained close in the decade since their last go-round on Dumb and Dumber To, the sequel that marked the then-20th anniversary of their career-launching film.

The worst movie of Jim Carreys entire career and its not even close is a grisly crime thriller that doesnt have a single positive review counted on Rotten Tomatoes. Carrey has starred in many great movies. His tenure as a movie star kicked off with a triple whammy of classic comedies, one after the other: The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Hes made great straightforward comedies, like Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty, and hes made quirkier, more outside-the-box films, like The Truman Show and The Cable Guy.
But Carrey has also had his fair share of disappointments. The long-awaited sequel Dumb and Dumber To was a massive let-down compared to its iconic predecessor; The Incredible Burt Wonderstone has a hilarious premise and a star-studded cast, but it plays it too safe; and Kick-Ass 2 is completely lacking the first movies sense of fun. But Carreys true...

It could be any day, any night, any city, and Bill Murray could be there. Maybe this sad clown folk hero is hitting karaoke night or doing a frat’s dishes or crashing a kickball game or bartending at some random joint or giving a speech at a bachelor party or popping in for a wedding photo shoot. Bill Murray is that “fun” uncle, the loose one with no clear direction yet always grounded in…well, whatever he wants. Maybe he’ll show up, maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll have a job this year, maybe he won’t bother. Maybe he’ll sock a male co-worker on the nose, maybe he’ll direct misconduct at a woman. Bill Murray is one unpredictable dude, his actions described as erupting “a trail of hysteria,” the man himself as “The Murricane.” Oh, and he’s made some of the greatest comedies,...

The Farrelly Brothers are comedy legends. Sure, not all of their films are gold, but they’ve made some of the most iconic comedies ever. But they haven’t made a film together in a decade (their last was “Dumb and Dumber To”). Thankfully, that’s about to change with their upcoming film, “Dear Santa.”

Dumb and Dumber To made Netflix's Top 10, 10 years after its release. Critics and audiences disliked the sequel for its lack of humor. Despite the negativity, the movie was a box-office success, but a third installment may not be necessary.
Jim Carrey's critically panned comedy sequel, Dumb and Dumber To, enters Netflix's Top 10 Chart in the United States 10 years later. Written and directed once again by the Farrelly brothers, the sequel to Dumb and Dumber sees Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprising their roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne 20 years after the events of the first film, as the two dimwitted adults set out on another cross-country road trip, this time to find Harry's adopted daughter. The cast also includes Rob Riggle in a dual role as twin brothers, Laurie Holden, Rachel Melvin, and Kathleen Turner.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels starred in the hit 1994 comedy film Dumb and Dumber. The main point of interest in the film was the pairing of a rising comic talent like Carrey and a serious character actor like Daniels. Carrey had already proven his mettle in comedy with back-to-back comedy hits Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and The Mask earlier in the same year.

Meanwhile, “Godzilla Minus One” (Toho), the sleeper Japanese success and Oscar Visual Effects winner, has now passed the five-week mark since its domestic release with no home viewing options in sight.
The timing is tied to agreements between Legendary Films (the domestic “Godzilla” licensee) and the franchise’s Japanese owner to not directly compete with each other. As the Warners film advances in its home availability ($5.99 rentals and Max streaming still to come), it remains to be seen when Toho’s film will be permitted.

As the Warners film advances in its home availability ($5.99 rentals and Max streaming still to come), it remains to be seen when Toho’s film will be permitted.

Jeff Daniels feared 'Dumb and Dumber' would "end" his career. The 69-year-old actor played the hapless Harry opposite Jim Carrey as his pal Lloyd in the 1994 hit comedy, and he's told how he had reservations about the film's notorious toilet scene, in which his alter ego has digestive problems and ended up using a loo that didn't flush properly. He told USA Today newspaper: “It’s one thing to read the toilet scene, but then the day comes and we’re actually going to do the toilet scene.“I told Jim, ‘This is either the beginning of my career or the end of it.'” Jim, who is fearless, told me, ‘It’s going to be great. You’ve just got to go all the way with it.'”Jim's pep talk inspired his co-star to give his all with the scene. He said: “That was a couple hours of porcelain gymnastics.

Jeff Daniels is looking back at his time filming the infamous toilet scene in Dumb and Dumber and how he feared it would end his acting career.
The actor, known for several of his more dramatic roles, recently told USA Today that even his agents warned him about taking on the role of Harry, the “dumber” of two friends, alongside Jim Carrey’s Lloyd in the 1994 comedy.
“I had agents, who weren’t wrong, telling me, ‘You’re a serious actor. This is not the direction you need to be going. We’re going to stop this and get you off this movie,'” Daniels recalled. “But I wanted to shake it up with a comedy. And I wanted to work with Jim Carrey.”

Dumb and Dumber To is back on Netflix's Top 3, driven by nostalgia and Jim Carrey's popularity. The sequel, originally criticized on its theatrical release, stars a comedic duo on a road trip adventure, receiving mixed reviews. Carrey and Daniels' 20-year reunion was praised, making the film a moderate box office success.
Dumb and Dumber To has made a surprising leap into the Netflix Top 3. The 10-year-old movie starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was a belated sequel to the 1994 Farrelly brothers comedy Dumb and Dumber, but the two-decade hiatus did not make fans crave the over-the-top antics of Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels) a second time around. However, like so many older movies, the film is finding a new lease of life on the streaming platform.
Dumb and Dumber To begins with Lloyd having spent 20 years in a psychiatric hospital following his romantic rejection by his would-be girlfriend Mary.

Jeff Daniels Reveals He Almost Quit Show Business in 2014. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
If it weren’t for Jim Carrey, fans would never have witnessed Jeff Daniels outdoing himself as megalomaniacal Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker in the Netflix adaptation of “A Man in Full.” In a recent interview with Indiewire “Newsroom” star Jeff Daniels, he revealed he almost quit showbusiness before his friend and costar, Jim Carrey, talked him out of it.
Jeff Daniels starred opposite Carrey in the 1994 buddy comedy “Dumb and Dumber.” The movie followed Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels), two affable, dim-witted pals from Rhode Island who often get into impossible situations leading to mayhem.
The duo have remained friends for decades and reprised their roles in 2014’s “Dumb and Dumber To.” In an interview with IndieWire, Jeff Daniels explained that after they finished filming the 2014 sequel, he told Carrey, “I’m done.”

Back when he was finishing “Dumb and Dumber To” in 2014, Jeff Daniels was ready to leave show business. “I’m done,” he told Jim Carrey. “You can’t stop man,” Carrey said. “You can’t, you’re creative, you’re going to create something, you’ve got to keep creating. That’s what we do!”
These days, Carrey’s off in Hawaii painting. And when Daniels is not acting, he’s writing songs and plays, which he mounts at his Michigan hometown’s Purple Rose Theatre Company. “It’s what keeps me going,” Daniels told me on Zoom. “It keeps me alive. Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. The movie is set in 1963 as breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post compete to become the first company to create a morning pastry. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer also star, with Hugh Grant more than likely to steal the whole film with a turn as Tony the Tiger.

As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

Reflecting on Arachnophobia, Jeff Daniels found working with a giant spider memorable. Daniels enjoyed the experience, preferring spiders over snakes. The actor's last two weeks on set included bidding farewell to John Goodman and sharing the spotlight with the massive spider.
Jeff Daniels fondly reflects on Arachnophobia as James Wan prepares a remake of the cult classic '90s comedy-horror movie. Directed by Frank Marshall and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Daniels 1990 creature feature concerned a small California town beset by an invasive species of aggressive and deadly spiders. Co-starring Harley Jane Kozak, the late Julian Sands, and James Handy alongside John Goodman as a kooky, spider-hating exterminator, the film grossed a solid $53 million against a budget of $22 million, and is now set for a remake produced by Wan and helmed by Happy Death Day writer-director Christopher Landon.

After a bit of a career detour to win a couple Oscars, filmmaker Peter Farrelly is back with his first full-fledged comedy in a decade: Ricky Stanicky, starring Zac Efron and John Cena.
Now available to stream on Prime Video, the Amazon comedy follows Dean (Efron) and two lifelong friends (Jermaine Fowler and Andrew Santino) who invent an imaginary pal named Ricky Stanicky to blame for their various hijinks. When their romantic partners finally want to meet him, the buddies hire a struggling actor known as “Rock Hard” Rod (Cena) to become Ricky.
Ricky Stanicky returns Farrelly to the ribald comedy genre, which he and brother Bobby Farrelly became synonymous with in the 1990s, thanks to hits like Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary. Their most recent co-directing effort was 2014’s sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. Peter Farrelly has stayed busy as a solo director, helming 2018’s Green Book,...

Peter Farrelly reveals why There's Something About Mary 2 never happened. Unlike the case of Dumb and Dumber, the director felt that the story had ended. Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller's careers were boosted by the film, as they both had iconic roles following the 1998 romantic comedy.

Director Peter Farrelly reveals there was an abandoned sequel to the iconic '90s comedy There's Something About Mary starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, potentially titled There's Something Else About Mary.
One half of the filmmaking duo known as the Farrelly Brothers, Peter Farrelly recently disclosed (via ComicBook.com) that discussions about a potential sequel did arise within the studio following the success of the original film. However, he and his brother ultimately decided against it, feeling that the story had reached its natural conclusion. There was a fleeting consideration for a sequel titled There's Something Else About Mary, which would have delved into a risqué revelation about the character's past. Unfortunately, studio executives weren't keen on the idea, leading the Farrelly Brothers to abandon the concept altogether.

Dumb And Dumber’s Peter Farrelly’s latest film is Ricky Stanicky for Amazon Prime Video. Here’s the trailer and some details…
The Farrelly Brothers will forever be synonymous with slapstick, gross-out comedies like Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary, both of which are, gag for gag, among the funniest films of the 1990s.
Apart from belated sequel Dumb and Dumber To in 2014, the brothers have concentrated on solo projects. In recent years, Peter Farrelly has directed acclaimed 2018 film Green Book, while Bobby directed underrated 2023 comedy Champions.
Peter’s latest film is Ricky Stanicky, a comedy which sounds a bit like Drop Dead Fred or Ted. The synopsis reads as follows:

Peter Farrelly made his name in Hollywood by directing raunchy comedies such as "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" alongside his brother, Bobby Farrelly. Since going solo, however, Peter Farrelly has been making more serious fare such as the Oscar-winning "Green Book." But now, he's back with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Ricky Stanicky." With an A-list cast and a ridiculous premise, it looks like a throwback in every conceivable way. Check out the trailer above for yourself.
Here, Farrelly is re-teaming with Zac Efron, who worked with him on "The Greatest Beer Run Ever." While Efron is coming off of the most serious performance of his career in "The Iron Claw," this sees him going back to his comedic roots, having previously starred in films like "Neighbors" and "Dirty Grandpa." Meanwhile, John Cena is getting to flex his comedic chops as well as the titular character.

From Frat Baby to Kalispitron to The Biggest Turkey in the World, Waystar Studios is responsible for plenty of solid, mediocre entertainment in the Succession universe. Throughout the show’s four-season run, the writers of Succession prioritized the Shakespearean tragedy of the characters above all. But they also had a ton of fun with all the in-universe media pumped out by Logan Roy’s empire – particularly the mindless films produced by Waystar Studios. Waystar Studios is the only branch of the company that Roman felt comfortable working for, because it allowed him to flex his creative muscles.

The best movie cameos can thrill audiences with a surprise appearance from a familiar face, and a great cameo can even distract from an otherwise mediocre movie. Throwing in a celebrity for a wink at the audience moment can be a jolt of excitement that certain movies desperately need and these less-than-stellar movies showcased just how effective some of the best movie cameos can be in saving a movie, at least for a little while.
While these appearances are brief, they are certainly the most memorable parts of the movies they are featured in. In some cases, the biggest stars and Oscar winners show up to have a little bit of fun before disappearing from the movie. Other special cameos even have the stars poking fun at themselves in their short screen time. Though these sequels and comedies may have been largely disappointing, they are at least remembered for some of the best movie cameos.

Being the accomplished actor that he is, it's been a while since Woody Harrelson has done a full-blown comedy. Though he got his start in the timeless and successful comedic sitcom Cheers (1982-1993), he's since proven he's got impressive acting chops outside of the genre, with incredible dramatic performances as seen in projects like True Detective Season 1 (2014) and Natural Born Killers (1994). It's also been quite a while since we've seen a new film from Bobby Farrelly, one half of the famed Farrelly brothers with his sibling Peter Farrelly. Peter has been hard at work on other feature film projects such as Green Book (2018) and The Greatest Beer Run Ever (2022) while Bobby has been more invested in TV projects like Trailer Park Boys (2016-2018) and Loudermilk (2018-2020), but now, Bobby Farrelly has also directed his first feature film since Dumb and Dumber To (2014). The comedy classic Dumb and Dumber featured funnyman Jim Carrey at the pinnacle of his career, but how does the trilogy stack up from worst to best? Released in 1994 to immediate success, Dumb and Dumber was a perfect mixture of a buddy comedy with the screwball tone of the 1990s. The film brought together Carrey and his co-star Jeff Daniels and the pair had electric chemistry on screen. Despite being unabashedly goofy, there was a lovable quality to main characters Lloyd (Carrey) and Harry (Daniels) that justified two sequels that further explored their ridiculous lives.
Dumb and Dumber was a box office smash and grossed almost $250 million (via The Numbers), and it even earned a prequel in the form of 2003's Dumb and Dumberer. In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Exclusive: Jack Black and brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the team behind the 2001 comedy Shallow Hal, look to be reuniting for the holidays — and bringing an infamous character along for the sleigh ride. Sources tell Deadline that Black is set to star in the Christmas comedy Dear Santa with Bobby Farrelly set to direct and Peter Farrelly on board to produce with Bobby and Jeremy Kramer.
The movie centers on a young boy who, in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and sends it to Satan instead. Black recently teased the project on social media when he posted a photo of him posing with Christmas decorations with no context — it got everyone talking about what it could be.

While Peter Farrelly was off winning Oscars for “Green Book,” younger brother Bobby has been largely absent from feature directing. It’s been nearly a decade since the siblings shared credit — the last time being 2014’s “Dumb and Dumber To.” Now, rather than competing with Peter at the respectability game, Bobby sticks to what he knows with “Champions,” in which Woody Harrelson plays a minor-league basketball coach court-ordered to assist a Special Olympics team for 90 days — just long enough to take the team from bumbling incompetents to national finalists.
There are zero surprises in “Champions,” unless you count the not-inconsiderable shock that such a movie exists at all. A remake of 2018 Spanish box office sensation “Campeones,” this awkward (if presumably well-intentioned) comedy might have felt enlightened 25 years ago — back when “Forrest Gump” was an Oscar favorite — but today makes for a patronizing portrayal of people with intellectual disabilities. That’s...

That film is Champions, a new feel-good comedy...

"Bill & Ted Face the Music" was one of my favorite movies that I saw during lockdown. I saw many better films too, but there was something about the eternal optimism and good nature of William S. Preston, Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves) that made them feel like the kind of heroes we needed during a pandemic, one of the weirdest and most uncertain situations many of us have ever experienced.
Stuck at home for far longer than natural, it was comforting to hang out with old screen pals in lieu of our real-life friends. This may be why the era of Covid-19 also saw the unlikely phenomenon of people binge-watching old episodes of "Columbo." Perhaps there isn't too much difference between Bill and Ted and Peter Falk's shambling detective. The movies and the show are set in sunny California; the stakes are low; and the protagonists are unassuming,...

Prime Video has taken the global distribution rights to the latest film from Oscar-winning director Peter Farrelly. “Ricky Stanicky” will be the “Green Book” director’s first R-rated comedy since “Hall Pass” in early 2011; his brother and ’90s-era co-director Bobby Farrelly will not be involved. The picture will star Zac Efron, John Cena and Jermaine Fowler, and will begin production this month in Australia.
The picture concerns three friends who invent a fictional character to avoid unwanted situations but then must hire an actor to portray that fabricated friend when their respective significant others start to smell a rat. Producers include Paul Currie of Footloose Productions and Thorsten Schumacher of Rocket Science in association with John Jacobs of Smart Entertainment. The screenplay was penned by Farrelly, Brian Jarvis and Jim Freeman from an original spec script by Jeff Bushnell and Steve Oedekerk.
