Altair Airlines, which was the flight that was used for filming the plane scenes with Brooke Adams in the very first and last scene of the movie, operated from 1967-1982, after it filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations in November of 1982 (approximately 2 months after filming wrapped in September of 1982). It was an airline based in Philadelphia and primarily served the northeast U.S. The scene was filmed at Bradley Field (Hartford/Springfield Airport also known as Hartford/Brainard Airport) in Hartford, CT.
Although most of the filming was in Greenfield, Massachusetts and Block Island, Rhode Island, there were a few more towns where there was filming. (the scene in the beginning where Jo runs into the guy who got her pregnant when she was a teen, as she goes to get aspirin from the pharmacy), The Whale's Tail in Block Island, RI, La Cage Aux Folles in Block Island, RI (the bar where Jo and Donna have a drink while listening to banjo music and where Donna introduces Sean to Jo), and Hotel Warren in Deerfield, Mass (the bar with the drinking scene where Jo gets drunk and gets into an argument with Tom), Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke, MA (baseball field where Tom, Jo, and Jackie go to see a night baseball game), French King Restaurant in Erving, MA (also known as French King Restaurant and Motel) (restaurant where Steve and Jo go to eat lunch where he throws his napkin on the table and storms out after ordering water--this location is not mentioned in the closing credits).
The women's clothing store that Jo went to see her biological mother (played by Scottie Bloch) at was a store called Peggy Parker which was located on the north side of Main Street at 138 Main Street in Greenfield, MA(the store is no longer there). The clothing store was not actually in Fall River where Jo told Donna it was when Donna asked Jo where she needed to go to see her biological mother.
