Elisabeth Moss is hard at work on her upcoming movie Shell and she’s reuniting with The Handmaid’s Tale co-star Max Minghella for the new project!
The Emmy-winning actress was spotted alongside Haim‘s Este Haim while walking around set on Monday (January 8) in Los Angeles.
It’s unclear if Este has joined the project or if she is just visiting set.
In Shell, struggling actress Samantha (Moss) is given an opportunity to get a free trial at Shell, a pioneering health and beauty company which promises to keep its clients looking young forever. Samantha’s life and career is transformed by the treatment, and she develops a burgeoning friendship with Shell’s CEO, the ultra-glamorous Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson). When a string of former Shell patients go missing under mysterious circumstances, including popular social media star Chloe Benson (Kaia Gerber), Samantha starts to fear she may be in danger herself.

A24 has confirmed that they’re re-teaming with Halina Reijn, the director of their slasher satire Bodies Bodies Bodies, on a erotic thriller called Babygirl – and an impressive cast has already been assembled for the film. Here’s the line-up: Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Antonio Banderas (Desperado), Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), and Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional).
According to Deadline, Reijn will be working from a screenplay she wrote herself. The story she crafted for this one centers on a successful CEO who begins an illicit affair with her much younger intern. Given the “thriller” part of the “erotic thriller” description, we have to assume that this affair goes terribly wrong in some way… probably in a way that involves more than just hurt feelings.

Main characters with great development can make or break an anime, as they are the ambassadors of the show and occupy most of the screen time. The development of the main characters' viewpoints in life enhances the viewer's experience and adds depth to the narrative. Some main characters constantly evolve throughout the story, while others maintain the same ideals but become less naive and more nuanced.
The best anime unmistakably also always have a main character with great development. As the ambassadors of the show, the main characters can make or break an anime. Windows 11 users can bring back the beloved start menu using a program called Open-Shell. An interface feature seen on previous iterations of the operating system, the start menu was a convenient way to comb through the contents of any Windows machine. Microsoft users who’ve experienced the start menu in its heyday will remember how easy it was to launch programs, fiddle with settings, find files, and perform all sorts of tasks by pressing a prominent button located on the left-most corner of the taskbar.
Developers on GitHub created ‘Open-Shell-Menu,’ a utility that lets people tweak and customize certain parts of the Windows user interface. Last Summer... (Catherine Breillat). There’s nothing quite like the rush of a bolt-from-the-blue discovery—the real-time realization, while in a darkened theater, that one is witnessing the emergence of a major cinematic voice. The closest this year’s Cannes came to offering such an experience was with the premiere of Pham Thien An’s Directors’ Fortnight selection Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell, a deserving recipient of this year’s Caméra d’Or. Immediately notable for its expansive 182-minute runtime, the film, Pham’s first, comprises numerous extremely long takes which call to mind the sequence shots of Shinji Sōmai, with complex choreography that does not conceal the artificiality (and occasional strain) of their production, and which are ultimately less concerned with Bazinian realism than with creating an indiscernibility between the real and the imaginary. Until its title card drops over half-an-hour in, Yellow Cocoon Shell impresses not just for its technical prowess,...

Anime has an uneven track record of being adapted in live-action outside of Japan. Asian filmmakers have made plenty of movie versions of beloved manga and anime series, but in Hollywood, there is a Ghost in the Shell for every Alita: Battle Angel. Thankfully, Sony has invested in an international cast for the live-action take on Saint Seiya with the clout of some familiar faces for the upcoming Knights of the Zodiac.
Knights of the Zodiac tells the story of a headstrong street orphan, Seiya, in search of his abducted sister who unwittingly taps into hidden powers, he discovers he might be the only person alive who can protect a reincarnated goddess, sent to watch over humanity. Guy Ritchie is, as the kids say, booked and busy.
Fresh off “The Covenant” and the long-delayed “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre,” the suddenly prolific British genre filmmaker has a new project set up by Black Bear International. The new film, with a title and plot under-wraps, is being prepped for buyers at Cannes and will mark a class reunion of sorts. The big-budget actioner will star Jake Gyllenhaal of “The Covenant” and both Henry Cavill and Eiza González, who feature in the upcoming “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”
Ritchie said “There’s something special that happens when you collaborate with the same partners regularly: you build a shorthand and a trust that lets everybody do their best work. Jake, Henry and Eiza are all astonishingly talented, committed, and engaging actors. This is going to be an action-packed movie that is both intellectually stimulating and physically exhilarating.”

Exclusive: Amid simmering unease over the impact of the writers’ strike, the upcoming Cannes market is getting a shot in the arm with the arrival of Guy Ritchie’s next project, a big-budget untitled action movie which will star Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel), Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Eiza González (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw).
Plot details and title are being kept (largely) under wraps but we hear the story, which is said to be laced with Ritchie’s trademark humor, will revolve around two extraction specialists who must plan an escape path for a high-level female negotiator. This will be one of — if not the — biggest-budget projects at the market with Black Bear International launching world sales today.
The movie will see Ritchie re-teaming with Cavill, Gyllenhaal and Gonzalez after recent collaborations. The new project comes hot on the heels of April’s U.

Following word that the voice of one of the supporting characters in Disney's planned live-action/CGI remake of Lilo & Stitch – alien creature Pleakley – has been found in Zach Galifianakis, we now know who will be playing the "Lilo" of the title. Young newcomer Maia Kealoha has scored the role.
Kealoha, who doesn't have any acting credits but has appeared in Little Miss Kona Coffee pageants, will acting alongside whoever else is cast for the human characters, and a lot of CG.
The original film, directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, followed Lilo, a lonely Hawaiian girl who forms a bond with a doglike extraterrestrial creature, whom she names Stitch. Stitch, who is engineered to cause chaos, has a change of heart as Lilo teaches Stitch the importance of "Ohana" the Hawaiian concept of family and introduces him to the music of one Elvis Presley. The movie was successful enough to spawn to straight-to-home-entertainment sequels,...

Independent films dominated the latest round of productions granted tax credits to shoot in the state.
Of 24 movies selected to participate in California’s Film & TV tax credit program, only three are studio projects, the state’s film office said Monday. They’re helmed by Lionsgate ($21.1 million), MGM ($13.8 million) and Disney ($11.3 million).
Netflix and Warner Bros. Pictures, which have led the way in the previous four allotment of credits over the last two years, have no to titles on the list of films getting tax breaks for filming in California.

The production is projected to generate more in-state spending than any other movie in the film office’s 14-year history, with $120.1 million in qualified spending. MGM was also granted credits for Thomas Crown Affair.

The California Film Commission has allocated more than $81 million to 24 film projects that have been selected for the latest round of the state’s Film & Television Tax Credit Program.
Together, the film commission expects the 24 projects to bring $662 million in total production spending to California, including an estimated $423 million in qualified expenditures – wages for below-the-line workers and payments to in-state vendors – and employ an estimated 3,173 crew members, 801 cast members and more than 29,000 background actors and stand-ins.
According to the film commission, the 24 film projects will also generate “significant” postproduction jobs and revenue for California visual effects artists, sound editors, sound mixers, musicians, and other industry workers and vendors.
“Our tax credit program continues to welcome a diverse range of projects, from big-budget films to small independent projects, and everything in between,” said Colleen Bell, executive director of the California Film Commission. “The program is an important tool for maintaining our competitiveness and curbing runaway production.

Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will not have to wait much longer for a new Tmnt movie. New York’s own Heroes in a Half-Shell are coming back to the theaters in two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie reboots, as well as spin-offs involving villains. Despite having gone six years without appearing on the big screen after the underwhelming results of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the Ninja Turtles remain a strong brand whether in animated series, comics, or toys. The fact that not even a failed movie has stopped Paramount from green-lighting two new Ninja Turtles movie options is a testament to the sheer strength of the IP.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ cinematic history goes back to 1990 with New Line's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which had two sequels. In 2007 the CG-animated Tmnt landed, followed seven years later by another live-action production. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,...

Austrian director Ulrich Seidl has cancelled his visit to San Sebastian for the Sept. 18 world premiere of “Sparta,” amid allegations of impropriety and child exploitation made against the director.
The world premiere will still go ahead at San Sebastian with the film playing in main competition contending for San Sebastian’s Gold Shell.
Seidl’s decision comes after the Toronto Film Festival pulled “Sparta” and on Sept. 14, FilmFest Hamburg announced that it would no longer be giving Seidl its Douglas Sirk Award, though it would be screening “Sparta.”
“I am very grateful to [San Sebastian director] José Luis Rebordinos for supporting “Sparta” from the beginning, despite the media pressure and the sudden and unexpected polemics it has created. It means a lot to me,” Seidl said via a written statement transmitted on Saturday by Spanish SVOD platform Filmin, which distributes the film in Spain.

Marcel the Shell (with shoes on) is making the leap from the internet to the big screen.
A24 has acquired the North American rights to the feature film version of “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” after its 2021 Telluride Film Festival debut, in a deal negotiated by WME Independent and CAA Media Finance.

Female directors and actors reigned supreme at tonight’s San Sebastian Film Festival awards ceremony, with the Romanian actor-turned-director Alina Grigore taking the Golden Shell for Best Film for her intimate debut feature “Blue Moon.” The film, a raw realist study of a young woman attempting to free herself from an abusive rural household, was an unexpected winner, besting a number of higher-profile auteur films in the festival’s main competition. Yet a full spectrum was covered: At the opposite end of the celebrity scale, Jessica Chastain was one of two Best Leading Performance winners for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
This was the second year in a row that a first-time female filmmaker took the festival’s top prize. Last year, Georgian writer-director Dea Kulumbegashvili swept the board for her debut “Beginning,” which won the Golden Shell in addition to Best Director, Actress and Screenplay. Starring Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” will receive its European premiere at late September’s San Sebastian Festival.
The biggest film event in the Spanish-speaking world will open with the anticipated “One Second” from China’s Zhang Yimou, which was dramatically pulled from competition at the 69th Berlin Film Festival.
Both titles play in competition, vying for San Sebastian’s top film plaudit, its Golden Shell, where they are joined by French filmmaker Thierry de Peretti’s “Undercover.”
Recounting the rise, fall and redemption of Tammy Faye, the indomitable wife of televangelist Jim Bakker, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” weighs in as the only U.S. movie in San Sebastian main competition. It catches Chastain on a high as she will receive the TIFF Tribute Actor Award, coinciding with the premiere at Toronto of the film.

Updated with release date: The CG movie reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which Deadline scooped last year (see the story below) was coming from Nickelodeon and Point Grey Pictures, now has a release date. The pic being directed by Gravity Falls‘ Jeff Rowe will hit theaters August 11, 2023.
Seth Rogen, who is producing with his Point Grey partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, unveiled the date Tuesday in a Twitter post, along with some “notes” from Leonardo, one of the four shelled heroes at the center of the kids franchise.
There were no other details provided aside from some doodling in the margins of the notes, which featured words like honor, loyalty and discipline which are staples of the Turtles mythology. There’s also a note to “apologize to April,” a nod to the journalist who helps the quartet fight crime.

Max Minghella never expected to be an actor.
The son of “The English Patient” director Anthony Minghella and dancer-choreographer Carolyn Jane Choa, Minghella says, “I one-thousand-percent anticipated working in movies, but acting was probably the last thing I thought I’d end up doing.” That all changed when he was 16 and caught a production of Kenneth Lonergan’s “This Is Our Youth” and, he says, “sort of got obsessed with the idea of saying those words.”
That obsession has resulted in a very busy dance card. This month, Minghella is co-starring in “Spiral” — a new chapter in the “Saw” franchise — and appearing in the fourth season of the Emmy-winning Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Minghella is also busy behind the camera: His feature film debut as writer-director, 2018’s “Teen Spirit,” was well-received, and he’s attached to direct the HBO Max movie “Shell,” which he calls “a completely bonkers script” by Jack Stanley.

In “Beginning,” a gut punch of a drama out of Georgia that takes austerity to extremes, a woman has a psychological and spiritual breakdown after an attack on her rural place of worship rocks her village. Dea Kulumbegashvili’s feature debut was one of the most talked-about films of the 2020 festival circuit, with the jury in San Sebastian led by director Luca Guadagnino awarding it Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress, and the Golden Shell for Best Film. The film, which is also Georgia’s submission for the 2021 Best International Feature Academy Award, finally begins streaming stateside courtesy of Mubi on January 29.
Ia Sukhitashvili plays Yana, the wife of a community leader who faces hostility after the attack, and the intrusion of a detective in her life who brings with him harrowing consequences. The film is set within a sleepy town of Jehovah’s Witnesses who provide an unsettling backdrop to Yana’s crisis,...

13 films were in the running for prizes in this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival competition, but it doesn’t appear to have been much of a contest at all. In a stunning sweep, Georgian writer-director Dea Kulumbegashvili’s debut feature “Beginning” took four of the jury’s seven prizes, including Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress for star Ia Sukhitashvili, and finally the Golden Shell for Best Film.
It’s a remarkable haul for a harrowing, avant-garde film that has taken critics by surprise this fall festival season, also landing the Fipresci critics’ prize in Toronto last week. The Franco-Georgian production centers on a close-knit community of Jehovah’s Witnesses in remote rural Georgia, and tracks the growing psychological torment of its leader’s wife (played by Sukhitashvili) in the wake of an extremist attack on their place of worship.

Upcoming directors are encouraged to collaborate with music artists to create entries for the contest. “Beats per Mizu” is a romantic comedy that humorously takes on the feeling of falling in love. The variety of emotions is also resembled in different styles. Tomita changes camera lenses and plays with the color grading.
