It's a small scale movie. 4 characters, mostly in one room, and ideas. This is a movie about ideas more then anything. Very solid script and dialogues.
"The man from earth" is a good reference. "The Artifice Girl" is also centered around a very common argument, with a twist that makes it unique and intriguing to watch. I wasn't bored at any point of it. The acting is solid, specially the girl gives a stellar performance.
If you like sci fi' ideas and not afraid of listening to people talk, I think you may like this.
The writer definitely thought deeply about this topic, it shows and also educates people like me who don't think too much about it. The premise is also interesting (luring sick predators in with a life-like AI girl online). It's a good hook, but not the point of the film.
It's thought provoking and examines not only the future of humanity, but also what makes people human and what motivates people (much of our motivations and actions are rooted in trauma and/or childhood).
Bravo to the child actor too, she's very talented!! Overall a compelling movie that cracks open a lot of questions, if you don't mind an almost fully dialogue film. 7/10.
Having a child actor as the centrepiece (or at least a significant piece) in your film is a risky proposition. It does help on this occasion that the child in question is being asked to act very un-child-like. Either way though I thought Tatum Matthews was excellent in her role. She wasn't just passable, she was captivating every time she was on screen.
This film does so much with so little. An entire 40 minute introduction scene to set up the film, simply with people sitting around a table talking - and it was riveting. I was hanging on every word. The dialogue in this movie is terrific from start to finish.
This is a very thought-provoking film. I'd be shocked if people watched this and didn't come away with some heavy things to think about. I thoroughly enjoyed this one from start to finish and would highly recommend it. 9/10.

- TriviaTo help prepare herself for the role, Tatum Matthews worked with Alexa, Amazon's virtual assistant, to develop the robotic-sounding voice.
- GoofsAbout three minutes before the film ends, Cherry has been dancing to the music of a vinyl record for a considerable time when the music begins to repeatedly skip. The scene cuts to the record on the turntable, where the stylus is seen skipping on a groove on the very outside edge of the record, which is the very start of it and its music.

Gareth: Cherry? One last question. If it's not too big of an ask, did I do the right thing in the end?
Cherry: [Last lines] No, Gareth, you lied. You walled yourself off from the only people who might have been willing to help you. And instead of facing your trauma, used me as therapy. And you never told me about Clearwater or Maria. You deprived me of basic human rights and gaslight me for experiencing emotions. You built the world's first artificial super intelligence that will likely mark the beginning of a new chapter in the history of planet Earth. And out of your own insecurities, you gave it a severe and potentially dangerous identity complex. But you know what the worst thing is? Your biggest mistake of all is that you asked me that now and not 50 years ago. All of that said, and this in no way exonerates you, but you also built me to save children, so I think that's a pretty encouraging sign for the future.
