Scott Mescudi, Brandon Perea, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Keyla Monterroso Mejia are among the stars of the horror short films produced for Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and TIFF’s “No Drama” Initiative.

What monsters lurk in the deepest corners of your inner thoughts?”

The inaugural class of filmmakers, Chandler Crump, Charlie Dennis, Helena Hawkes, Jared Leaf and Ariel Zengotita, each received a $50,000 grant from TIFF to produce their projects during the one-year, non-exclusive program. All five films, written and directed by each participant, will premiere next month at TIFF (out of competition), and the filmmakers will also participate in...

Outlander’s Richard Rankin Takes Us Inside Viaplay’s Detective Drama Rebus (And Decodes Some Scottish Slang Along the Way)
Image
Outlander fans may be drawn to the Scottish crime drama Rebus thanks to its star, Richard Rankin. But after the very first scene, they might ask themselves: “Roger who?”

Indeed, the Viaplay series’ opening moments introduce Rankin as brooding Det. John Rebus, a man capable of violence and prone to making bad decisions. The character is a far cry from the much gentler role of Roger Wakefield MacKenzie, whom Rankin plays in Starz’s time-traveling romance.

John Hannah at an event for La Momie : La Tombe de l'empereur dragon (2008)
Rebus | Ian Rankin adaptation to air on the BBC
John Hannah at an event for La Momie : La Tombe de l'empereur dragon (2008)
Ian Rankin’s iconic detective Rebus is heading back to the small screen. Here’s what we know about the new series…

Ian Rankin’s Rebus is one of the most successful characters in contemporary fiction. Appearing in over 24 novels since 1987, with the 25th, Midnight & Blue, set to be published in October, and over a dozen short stories, Rankin’s dour detective has made an indelible impression on readers the world over.

It wasn’t long before he made his way to the screen. The first iteration starred John Hannah, who played the role for one series in 2000 to 2001. Hannah was unpopular with fans of the books, and he quit the role soon after.

For three series, Ken Stott stepped into the role of the detective. His portrayal was extremely popular, and he became inextricably linked with the role, so much so it has taken well over a decade for...

Grey’s Anatomy star responds to exit rumours as he joins new Itvx drama

Kevin McKidd has dispelled rumours that he will be leaving Grey’s Anatomy, even as he’s set to co-lead Itvx’s forthcoming crime drama Six Four.

The 49-year-old Scottish actor has starred as Dr Owen Hunt in the long-running medical drama since season five (2009).

However, McKidd – who is now among the show’s few remaining veteran actors – has confirmed that he’s “not going anywhere any time soon”.
